wii-js - Interact with your Wii's browser

The Nintendo Wii is an entertainment system with an utterly massive install base, and when you couple it with the fact that it's got a web browser (mostly) built in, there's a lot of potential for third party development. Sadly, few have opted to do any sort of development for it. While it doesn't help that Nintendo pretty much dropped the ball on this opportunity, the experience of browsing the web on the Wii isn't actually that compelling to begin with.

That said, I think this can serve one other purpose: it's an ideal environment to teach children how to program! I created this library to sanitize Wii interaction with webpages in the browser, as it's notoriously crippled. It aims to offer a solid, documented, performant API that's easy to understand and pick up. With this library, you can have up to 4 Wii-motes interacting with your webpage at once, a dynamic not found in other web browsing mediums.

Thought this was interesting. Seems like a great way to learn how to program if nothing else. Anyone try it out?

Reminds me of Wii Opera SDK http://wiioperasdk.com/menu_sdk.php (playable on Wii's browser). Wish this got developed a bit more, seems like development has stood still for a while.

Ah yes, I remember Gamespot had a Wii-exclusive interface with bigger buttons and such.

I remember that there were some Flash games that used the Wii remote. Those were pretty fun. Would like to see some more Wii browser stuff.

I think there's also 3DS browser tools, too. For instance, on the 3D photo site 3DPorch, you can upload photos directly from your 3DS.

Why would you do that? said:

The 3DS can natively upload photos to any site that has a standard "file browse" button, but I don't know of any 3DS-specific javascript extension.

A bunch of movie studios would make flash games that were compatible with Wii, the one that stands out for me was DBEWii.com (no longer active), which was this.
