I actually think dumpster diving is disgusting to me (to each their own though, just my personal opinion ... i just can't get near something that's been in the trash).

But I knew that thread would become a raging inferno the moment it got posted. No way was I getting involved in THAT can of worms.

Why should we waste energy and resources recreating what's out there in the trash on the internet in virtually the same condition as when it was linked in the OP? Someone just has to go get it. And consume it somehow.

I'm not excusing the guy doing an account suicide over a few frustrating posts, but people were getting pretty disrespectful in there.

I don't dumpster dive and never plan on doing it, but people were being absolute dickheads to people that did.

There's the implication that if you can't post, you won't visit the site. Of course we know that some banned members keep lurking forever, JBaird donated to Amirox's charity the other day and he was banned spectacularily a year and a half ago.

edit: Speaking of which, Jbair's donation was a pretty damn straight up nice thing to do. Do banned accounts ever get second chances?

If he really wanted to imply that he does not want to post on Gaf anymore he could have send a p.m. to a mod, get banned and be done with it or discuss his problems with whoever pissed him of. This is just going to come back on him once he get's back.

This is the only way to make sure you're not wanted back by the people who can unban you. Any civil way would open up the possibility for asking to be unbanned. If you're hardcore quitting you can justify this internally as being the only option. Obviously if you are that involved in the community you're going to be reading the site just as much as pre-ban regardless of being able to post. And then there are alternate accounts too. Wasn't JCRedeems caught with at least three alt accounts post-permaban?

It's pretty out there, but I'm not going to post stuff like "Tell a girl that you like digging through trash like a hobo" and call people "sad and pathetic" like that.

It's an alternative lifestyle choice that doesn't interest me very much, but I don't think it's appropriate to outright insult people for it.
