IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat: Episode 50.

Daemon is a Fanboy, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. (btw wtf kinda spelling is Daemon, looks like Digimon)

I was happy when he left IGN Nintendo. But to tell you the truth, I think Bozon and Matt are just as nitpicky about every little thing.

Real journalists should review games based on whether they are fun or not. You can't nitpick about every little thing in a game, there is no such thing as perfect you know. OMG there was a graphics collision, omg I felt stupid while playing (it's a game, not like you are in public anyway)

But to end this, it's just his stupid opinion. Not like he's famous or anything, just some fanboy.

I may not own a PS3 or 360, but I don't just go bashing because the control scheme is different from regular consoles. I can recognize there are games on the other system that I want to play.

And the only Wii-ports Nintendo has done is some of their top-selling games. Blame 3rd parties like Crapcom who are still porting over last gens games instead of using the money to create new games. (See Resident Evil Archives)

There is a lot of Nintendo hate going round these days. Is it because of the summer?
What? No, it's because it's another day. All days from Monday to Sunday. Any other day, you can hate someone else.

All of this is, of course, still just my opinion.
To get all bent out of shape makes you seem insecure -- as if, deep down, you know I'm right.
Hmm, don't these statements contradict?

For the rest: Nintendo's got some serious work to do if this is the common opinion among gaming journalists (haha) and developers.

They really can't fix it, though. At least not in any way that I know of. Games cannot be patched on the Wii. The online is stuck as it is unless they decide to make the whole Wii friend code thing standard. But even then they'd have to make a headset or something for gamers that don't want people shouting to through their entire house.

The graphics aren't changing unless they make a revision that allows developers to make low end HD games that can still be played on the old Wii.

And now, even if they fix some of those things, they have to compete with Sony and MS's motion stuff now.

Point is, the so called hardcore will never be happy with the Wii. It sucks, but thats how it is. And unfortunately, I think a lot of developers are of similar opinion.

I don't particularly care about these blogs but he made a comment about the kind of games that are moving the industry forward. Examples he gave were Fallout 3 and COD4. I can't disagree more. Natal and the PS3 wand will be standard features in the next gen consoles. Games will be played the same on those systems as it is now on the Wii. Kind of proves Nintendo went in the right direction.

I almost laughed when I read that part.

I completely agree with you. We had games like that a long ass time ago. I mean don't get me wrong, I loved playing Call of Duty, but they weren't exactly hugely original or anything.

I understood where the guy was coming from until this line in his response:

That nullified his argument. My God, smarmy much? :lol

That's the kind of argument you offer when you're debating, I don't know, religion or politics. This is video games. Grow up, Demon Hatefun.

(OMG! Did you see what I did there?!)

His answer couldnt be anymore inflamatory :lol
I mean praising Fallout 3, Dead Space and shitting on Mario Galaxy couldn't be more stupid. He's gonna get the fanboys riled up,.. i bet that's what he wants anyways. It wouldn't impress me when Natal and PS3 wand are out he would be praising them and calling Wii wand crap again.

Seriously? I'm about to start a hatewagon for COD4. It's popcorn fun. It's True Lies or any other Arnold film not named Terminator 2. Just harmless action drivel not meant to challenge or progress. I liked the game but when people start pushing it up as something it's not (hardcore, progressive or anything besides shallow fun), it grates me that standards have changed. And devs/pubs would start to believe that. People get up in arms as to the meaning of Nintendogs selling 17 million but I'm equally alarmed at COD4 selling 11 million. What's worse than a bunch of casuals enjoying a casual game is a bunch of hardly cores propping up a casual game as something else.

Indeed.

You want to play something hardcore, you need to probably go back a few years to the likes of Contra, and old school Megaman.

That shit was haaard. :(

Back in this thread in April I posted this referring to Daemon:

Would anyone be surprised if Craig came out saying something similar? I mean sure Matt's bitter, but Craig is the guy who went on a "I'm done with Pokemon" rant.

Now wheres Episode 51?

This Game Scoop! podcast was brought up at the IGN boards? Can you post a link? I searched here and didn't see anything on it, so I figured it just flew under the radar all around.
Here you go. It's an 11 page thread that lasted for 4 days before being locked (pretty big for IGN Nintendo boards), so it caused something of a disturbance over there.

Man my post should be the last in this wasteland of a thread.
Fuck Daemon. Saying shit like
To get all bent out of shape makes you seem insecure -- as if, deep down, you know I'm right.
just makes him another dumb douchebag. Let me know when NVC: Ep. 51 is out.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
lost respect for daemon.... sounds like a fanboy in that podcast to me, wouldn`t even let the other guest talk positive about the wii for 5sec before dismissing the sentence with "nah wii is stupid"

yeah wii doesnt offer high end hd graphics but some ppl are acting like the best wii has to offer looks like a first gen 3d psone game...

any game that comes out on Wii will be dumb

stupiest comment ever :-/

Back then though?

Those games weren't hardcore. They were just... games.

You know what I miss? When it was just "good games" and "bad games."

Hey if you really hate Daemon you should let him and IGN know by rating Gamescoop on iTunes or whatever and giving it 1 star only just to annoy him (and make sure to stop listening to any show he's involved with if you're feeling very vindictive). I remember his boss (Per the German) joking that he'd only get a pay rise if he got good marks for his show, so I'm quite curious to what happens if he only gets 1 star.

Fuck, I thought it was quite obvious I'm not serious. Must use more retard face icons in the future.

I don't hate the guy, I just think that people like him are the problem with gaming journalism.

Hell, maybe even gaming in general.

Wowow...what a jackass. Congrats donny2112, you are no longer the official thread looser.

To be fair, I don't really care. I actually think it's all quite funny and I actually like Daemon as a host (NVC was better with him). There are a lot of peeps in this thread that seem quite bothered by his stance on the Wii though.

(Also the only podcast I'd give 1 star to is the IGN PS3 one, if only for the atrocious singing they do every damn episode. That is if I was actually bothered enough to vote.)

How do you not want to play well-made games you enjoy just because you don't like the console? I don't understand this mentality and I wish he had clarified on that part of his podcast comments instead of having to go in detail about the same-old Wii-is-a-disappointing-console drivel.

I've listened to Game Scoop! for over 50 episodes by now. I knew Daemon wasn't the biggest fan of the Wii before he went to the Nintendo team, but what he did on that podcast was shameful. Listen to the section. You can almost sense the other members in shock in their nervous/surprise laughter. Heck, Greg Miller, a big Sony guy from the PlayStation team, seemed to want to say something to defuse the moment, but he hadn't watched the Microsoft Conference, much less the Nintendo one. Hilary Goldstein is even the one who brought up Metroid from Team Ninja to try to soften Daemon's outburst, and he later said that he hasn't plugged in his Wii since Super Mario Galaxy.

I don't know what caused Daemon's outburst. Maybe he was getting heckled for being on the Nintendo team for a few months, and it got to him. Maybe he was a little drunk from the drinking at dinner. Regardless, I was in enough shock at his comments that I didn't want to just let them fade out without a mention. This guy is one of the more outgoing faces of IGN through Game Scoop!, Daily Fix, and taking over the Nintendo podcast for a while. The fact he could be this insulting to a large portion of his audience is just bad.

I think that the fact that a disparaging remark about a product is equated to a disparaging remark about a group of people is stupid. Go video games.

you know what it is? it's straight up unprofessional. if you want to be a critic, you're expected to be as objective and even handed as possible when commenting about your media. your job is not to look for what you like in the book/movie/game/whatever, but what PEOPLE would like in it. critics like Ebert, despite his anti-game stance, will see any movie and rate it as a movie that people will buy. it requires and honest, clearheaded, and analytical approach to the media. calling the Wii stupid, or any other console for that matter, is a sad indicator that he's simply too amateur for his profession. this has less to do with bullshit fanboy wars as it has to do with academic trust. any real gamer, regardless of whether he or she even likes the Wii should be insulted by this, simply because such a frivolous and petty man is acting as any sort of face for gaming.

Different "he." Yes, Daemon said that he played and liked World of Goo. Hilary Goldstein brought up Metroid by Team Ninja to try to show a positive from Nintendo's conference, and it was Hilary Goldstein that said he hadn't plugged in his Wii since Super Mario Galaxy.

I think the main difference is that podcasts are usually done for fun rather than pay (at least I get that impression from 1up), so when you get a bunch of people into a small cramped room with 8 bottles of vodka talking about video games of course their personal feelings will come out. But I honestly have no problem with this as long as inherent bias / hatred doesn't cross over into the actual game review, which should be reviewed on its own merit. I think DeaconKnowledge said it best with:

DeaconKnowledge said:
I really don't give a fuck what he personally thought of the Wii as long as it didn't taint his reviews, and it largely looks like it didn't.

Also if you hate (or even like) them you should rate them just to let them know. I mean they ask us every fucking episode so I'd have thought some of the haters here would have 1 starred them by now.
