Here we go, final mission of WC2. My thoughts at the end.
K'Tithrak Mang System. Enigma Sector.
Pre-Mission: O-Deck.
Nice security on this ship. Does Concordia even have a Brig?
Snazzy
Jazz says we betrayed him when we let his brother die. We didn't make it in time due to Tiger's Claw being detoured to attack an enemy transport (which did happen). He swore he'd kill everyone on TC. I tell him I'd like to see him dead but the courts will court-martial him and I wish I could be there to pull the trigger.
During Mission: Angel briefs everyone about the attack on K'Tithrak Mang. She will be leading the strike force. I'm to fly with Nightshade on Patrol. I request to join the strike force. She tells me that the Admiral doesn't want me to be there. Five minutes later on Flight Deck. I tell Sparks to refit my ship with torpedoes and to give me Angels flight disk with the mission specs. She asks if this is wise. I tell her that Tolwyn wants me off this ship so bad that now I'm going to give him a reason. I also ask her not to mention this to Nightshade.
My ship is outfitted with six torpedoes and two IR missiles. In between K'tithrak Mang and myself is an asteroid field. Three stealth fighters now designated Strakha are in the asteroids. I take them all out but a stray asteroid knocks off my forward armor. Concordia contacts me once I'm out of the asteroids. I'm ordered to return to base but I refuse. Major Edmond's wishes me luck just in case. Looks like Prince Thrakkath himself wants to kill me when I arrive at the station. He's flying his special fighter the Bloodfang. It's got four Particle cannons in front but I was him no sweat. The real trouble is the four Drakhai flying Sartha after he's down. I lose a Particle cannon, all but my port armor, and my ejector, intercom, & power plant get hit. I ice all for before turning my attention to K'tithrak Mang. It only takes two torps to destroy her and finally avenge Tiger's Claw after ten long years.
Post Mission Wrap-Up: I land to a full flight deck. Angel is there and I kiss her right in front of everyone (ugh bad writing game). Tolwyn is livid with me listing all the charges he has against me...but then promotes me to Colonel!
Sorties: 84
Kills: 747
So...WC2. Can't say I really enjoyed it too much. Sure it's better than the FMV games but not by much. I liked it as a kid but as an adult, all it's flaws jump out at me. It's here where the cracks begin to form in the WC saga. The Hackneyed writing. I don't like that they destroyed Tiger's Claw. I don't like that they made Jazz a traitor or that they killed Spirit. Not to mention all the absurd things like openly having a relationship with a superior officer. Plus, they kind of make your main Character a dick. And the lazy way they implemented all the new things in this game. Particle cannons are supposed to be the hot new gun but I seem to be able to kill guys faster with the ferret and broadsword who only have mass drivers in front. It's telling when 3 out of 5 of the new fighters suck. They didn't upgrade wingman AI to take into account of Turrets. How many times did Hobbes get shot down due to just letting enemy turrets shoot at him? Also, no longer promotions or medals or even ribbons are a big negative in my eyes. I no longer felt like I was the PC but was watching him do things instead of me. A problem that's just painfully obvious when the series moves to FMV and live actors take over. There was difficulty in this game but it felt more like the difficulty was due to the games limitations rather than any added challenge made by the devs.
So there you have it. Might take a break for a bit.
