Full transcript of Trump's first address to the United Nations

So did anyone catch the whole thing?

There's a thread on the North Korea comments but I figured this warranted its own thread as it's his first

He performed better than I thought he would

His comments on socialism in Venezuela seem to really have struck a chord with his base (and surely angered many progressives)

"I ask every country represented here today to be prepared to do more to address this very real crisis. We call for the full restoration of democracy and political freedoms in Venezuela. (Applause.)

The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented. (Applause.) From the Soviet Union to Cuba to Venezuela, wherever true socialism or communism has been adopted, it has delivered anguish and devastation and failure. Those who preach the tenets of these discredited ideologies only contribute to the continued suffering of the people who live under these cruel systems. "

And yet China continues to flourish and Cuba keeps spitting the USA's face. Both countries he has repeatedly pissed off and alienated.

Are you really citing China as an example of socialism? It's pretty much economically capitalist through and through.

The war on equality continues. Who would ever want socialism when I can pad my bank account with taxpayer money by funneling it through my hotels?

Wait what?

China's system is built on a very flimsy and unstable deck of cards, the moment of any true turmoil will send them all falling. They are late 70's Soviet Union, hanging on by trickery and illusions but the moment external factors come a knocking it will collapse,

*reads Venezuela part*
Yep, because all socialism is communism. And socialism is the biggest issue in the country?

Forget it. He will always be a lost cause for the American people. It's still ridiculous anyone had faith in him in the first place.

Trump could have taken a shit in a glass, smeared it all over his face while praising Satan and Schatt would still justify it somehow.

I checked the prior topics from Schatt...yeah my memory was correct. A lot of pro-Trump leaning threads. A lot of them end up locked.

What about the anguish and devastation and starvation caused by neoliberal commodification?

I know Orange Con Man probably can't tell you the difference from any of these isms, but fuck me into a bank hacking heist, the sheer audacity to attack other nations for inequality and suffering while ruling a country doing it in unfathomable ways itself is just remarkable to me.

It's such a lack of optics that it can only be done with people who have no idea what a pulse is.

sovereign sovereign strong, sovereign sovereign strong sovereign sovereign

It reads like he stayed mostly on-script, but the script was typical Trump whining:
The United States will forever be a great friend to the world, and especially to its allies. But we can no longer be taken advantage of, or enter into a one-sided deal where the United States gets nothing in return. As long as I hold this office, I will defend America’s interests above all else.

Bitching about the Iran deal, bitching about trade agreements, bitching about UN dues. For as coherent for Trump as the speech was, it was still gross.

No - one of the bigger Kasich fans on GAF

You post threads from "news "articles from right wing rags like The Blaze about minorities. It doesn't get more Trump than that man.

If you had no intention of contributing to this thread, then why post?

To discredit anyone who doesn't buy into the "socialist Utopia" that many GAF members see as the goal for society.

They were paralyzed by Donald's greatness. He performed better than they thought he would.

Irony is the OP saying the base loved it. Trump's base is all for socialism. But ONLY for white people. Their views on border walls and infrastructure make that obvious.

weird thread, I don't know why it's acceptable to derail about who posted the OP when the content is fine, but whatever

What struck me most watching it was how much he echoed the nationalist rhetoric of Euroskeptic parties, constantly throwing out words like "sovereignty" and "nation-states" and talking about a community of nations. Going after Venezuela and NK are basically restatements of things we've heard before, but his language elsewhere sounded like something Geert Wilders or Marine Le Pen or Heinz-Christian Strache would say while railing against the EU.

Also the camera shots of the delegations were kinda funny, as most were stone-faced and Israel's was downright giddy throughout. I actually agree that he didn't do too "poorly", in the sense that he didn't say anything unexpected or gaffe-laden.

Lol so the WH inserted "applause" in the speech as if it was certain to happen?

Did they not write to their audience at all?

There were several instances where Trump waited for applause which were answered by seconds of silence ,till he got polite "move on" applause.

All that matters is their base (see: OP) bought it hook line and sinker and are spreading it like it's a fact. Spreading the right-wing fake news is all that matters.

I don't have to be a fan of socialism (I'm not) to know what he said here is bullshit. And it is very rich that he criticizes Venezuela, since a lot of their problems stem from corruption, and some nepotism. The same kind of corruption and nepotism he's trying to peg in his own government.

And do more? Colombia is in a refugee crisis right now, receiving thousands of people, with not enough budget (because we're trying to implement some peace deals, which you know, help you with your War on Drugs, if you're so insistent on being utilitarian), not to mention the fact that we're actually supporting a diplomatic way out, instead of saying that you haven't discarded the military option. Which you know, would worsen the refugee crisis, which would make the country more unstable, and would probably increase drug crops. Oh no. Geopolitics. Who would've thought it was so complicated. Definitively not President Trump. So easy to be all talk.

Yup, he went on for a good 10 minutes about how great patriotism and nationalism is and how each government should always put their country above all else - at the UN of all places. It's honestly rather unsettling.
