Do you earn income on the side? If so, what do you do?

After that Gamestop stuff that happened some weeks ago that allowed people to get tons of store credit, I've gotten interested in flipping game-related items for a quick buck.

In reality, I'd like to make something that sold itself, like a good book or something, but that won't be happening any time soon.

Affiliate porn marketing. Makes enough to be decent spending money, plus more during holidays, and allows me to go to Vegas once a year and call it a business trip.

Just published a Kindle book (ESL workbook) which probably wont make much but it feels good to have tried. I have another one written too and I just need to edit it / put on the finishing touches / etc

I'm a teacher most of the year and an artist during summer. Art/animation used to be my main income, but found freelancing too stressful. Changed career, teaching is alright, summer gives me time to do art.

If you can sing, most cities have an orchestra/symphony that needs 200 people in a chorus behind it, and the majority are pretty wanting for people or are made up of 60+ year olds. I make an extra $1000 a year doing three concerts, in addition to my regular job. Most music stuff doesn't pay a ton, but it's a great stress reliever and my mental health is better for it.

eBay flip retro games.

Have an iOS game that's in its final stages of development. Hopefully it's nice pocket change.

I do a decent amount of freelance design during the summer months but only if I find the work interesting or a learning experience. CAD, prototyping, model making, rendering etc.

Currently working on a small run of concrete castings for a client.

I'm not tutoring this summer but during the school year I tutor French and English.

That's super cool!
I'm always on the lookout for more material... Want to share a link to the book?

I teach/compose music for marching/indoor percussion ensembles at a handful of highschools and one independent group that compete in WGI/SCPA.

I was going to say smaller cities only (as most major orchestras have *very* strict chorus auditioning procedures) but I suppose even the larger cities have smaller, community orchestras. (But a lot of those are unpaid.)

I flip iPhones. Due to my line of work I frequently come into iPhone 6/6+ for anywhere from $50-$100 then I sell them on Facebook market place for $200-$300.

I normally get about 5 phones per month.

I've run an ecommerce store through Shopify for the last 6 years, focused on soccer and the culture around it. I often say it "pays for my lunch" when folks ask how much it brings in. I've sold my designs to over 60 countries on every continent bar Antarctica.

Most rewarding project of my life. I dream to be able to be able to live off it.

Bought a house in 2014 in an up and coming suburb of Detroit which I now rent out for ~$400 profit each month.

Saved up my income from my first year of my career job out of college while living at my parents and bought a semi fixer upper for a great price while the market was still pretty down. The value of my property already went up by $60k since I got it and with all the renovations I did. It was definitely a lot of time, effort, and money I put into it (basically cleared out my bank account when I gave the down payment) but I'm glad now that my parents urged me into buying property. It's been basically self sustaining profits for me with little to no effort on my part. I have awesome tenants right now too, so it's been a breeze so far.

I'm an electrical PE.

I do some side engineering & design consulting for one of my previous employers for cash...for about half a day on some Saturdays. They're a small(ish) construction company and sometimes they need drawings signed & sealed, which I can now do with my PE license.

Already used the cash to fund a few repairs around my house, and now I'm saving up for my family's Christmas vacation in NY.

I write a lot. Started selling some stuff here and there to help with my car.

A few years back, I tutored SAT classes. It's boring as fuck but damn you can make money doing it if you throw yourself into it.

Ghost-wrote autobiographies for a couple of people...pretty weird experiences, but interesting. Also did some creative editing on the side for a couple of e-book publishing boutiques; basically I had to come in, read all the manuscripts that their contracted authors had produced, and thoroughly critique them for quality, readability, and marketability.

I have knowledge in everything that has to do with transportation on the texas mexico border being permits etc, so I make some of those for some companies that aint where I work for to get some buck on the side.

My real job tho is accounting.

I AirBnB out my second bedroom and have done a bit of Uber driving.

For AirBnB, I have probably made close to $5000 in the last year. It basically makes up for not having a full time roommate for a two bedroom apartment. On top of that, I have an arrangement where a coworker stays with me during the week, I shut down AirBnB Monday through Thursday night and he pays me $150 a week. So I've made an extra $2000 over the past 4 months doing that too.

For Uber, I made maybe $1500 over the course of two months doing it a night or two a week. Gas probably takes ~$150 out of that and then there is additional mileage on my car, but it wasn't substantial. Living in a college town meant there were pretty consistent surges for 3-4 hours on Friday/Saturday and you could make bank fast... plus it was kind of fun since I didn't have any bad incidents. I wouldn't recommend it in most situations though. Also I felt morally bankrupt driving for Uber, but the town doesn't have Lyft yet.

I've been trying to publish a book of poetry. There's not a lot of money in it, couple of grand probably, but I would have written it anyway so why not

I'm pretty sure somebody will take it eventually

I do photography on the side. I don't put a lot of time to market myself, but I land some gigs via word of mouth.

I'm a freelance artist so I guess you could say I do a lot of jobs on the side. I wouldn't, however, say that I earn an income. I'm lucky when people pay me what and when they say they will. I'm still waiting on last months "income" from multiple jobs that I worked like 12 hours a day on all month.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

eBay

Anyone who needs an extra $500 or a grand a month can easily get on there and do it. If you actually decide to put time into it you can do much better than that.

It doesn't take too long to learn what to look for either. All you need is to find one nice t-shirt, hat or "do-dad" and you can turn $0.50 or a buck into hundreds. That isn't my bread and butter, that's the stuff that goes for around $30 or so, but I do have that happen multiple times a month.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I do autoCAD drafting projects for various groups and companies on the side. Nothing too crazy but its a good way to make some extra cash without having to leave the hoes and something I can do at my computer.

I want to write an ebook, but I have no idea where to start. I have questions about trademarks and such if I write technical books.

I am an avid genealogist as a hobby and have really gotten into genetic genealogy. I administer the Ancestry DNA tests of 20+ family members. As such, I now have a lot of experience in using genetic genealogy to help people in everything from genealogy to finding the birth parents of adoptees, people who were donor-conceived and other cases of unknown/misattributed parentage.

This summer, I have developed a 5 week course on using genetic genealogy in these types of issues and it is going very well.

I have a great job that pays well and has always been there, so I am only doing genetic genealogy as a hobby. But - if my job ever goes away, I am starting to feel confident that this hobby that I do on the side could become more than a hobby.

Very cool stuff in here. I'd love to have a side hustle some day to earn a little extra but haven't gotten close to it yet.
