Final Fantasy And Dragon Quest Fortune Street PS4/PSV Announced

I will also mention I am a bit disappointed they fully reverted back to player order = number instead of each character having their own color like in the wii version.

Yeah, I'll miss that too, but it seems like that was a stray from the norm as as far as I can tell all the other games use those colors for players.

So they showed three character trailers. One's for already confirmed Maribel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4BcrZi99mE

But they showed two new FF Villains

Golbez

and

Gilgamesh

S-E's Youtube page says they're doing a special Livestream on September 6th.

I just hope Gilgamesh being confirmed playable doesn't mean they're dropping Sphere mode from the PS2 game :/

Sooo, on a whim, I thought I'd check out the website (link in the OP) to see if it's been updated, and it has! Has a lot of screens shown in the magazines. Even got a couple of neat confirmations.

The Phantom Train (FFVI) and The Invincible (FFIX) boards from the PSP game are back!

As well as Mt. Magmageddon (DQV) from the Wii game!

Nothing else really revealing, but the game is looking great!

looking at these old posts, the second board was reskinned as Peach's Castle in Fortune Street Wii. that's one of my favorite boards.

yeah... sphere mode was a lot of fun so hopefully that is back. though sphere mode will be harder to do in japanese than the other mode for me since i don't know much of it. ideally it still gets announced for english :(

These games only come out in Japan right?

The wii version actually got an english release (fortune street with mario x dragon quest).
as did the smartphone game that came after. Thus it's not like it is impossible for this to come out in english as those were the previous two releases.

that being said the overall odds of this getting an english release are very low.

that being said if you have played fortune street quite a bit at least the base mode of the game should be pretty playable even if you don't speak japanese. If sphere mode is included though that mode won't be easily playable without knowing what they are.

Yep, they seem to use the same "layouts" and either reskin them or reuse them completely.

Speaking of maps though! Looking at my old quoted post, I thought I'd check the website to see if they added anything other than the new characters. And would you believe they added a Map Section! Gold Saucer is now a confirmed map!

gah... the gold saucer. only map I have ever lost to a NPC who never got more than 3 property. The NPC just invested perfectly the entire time and went along with all three of the other players and never hit a big payout @_@

Gameplay overview by Healie (Healix?). Strangely switches between two versions of the Trodain map. The original, and a slightly bigger version with more squares on the board.

And S-E's page recently did a live playthrough of the game earlier. Interestingly, Youtube acually identifies the game as "Fortune Street"

Things I noticed:

-Shows Torneko with the playable characters and then lists "And more" suggesting more characters.
-They play on a new FF+DQ map that uses Battle on the Big Bridge (FFV) and the FFIII Boss Battle theme for the Target Met theme.
-Snazzy new remix of Cait Sith's theme for Buying Stocks (definitely NOT reused from the PS2/PSP games)
-I can't quite recognize the new themes for Venture Cards and the Auction music. The former is something from FFXII (I can recognize Sakimoto's style anywhere!)and the latter I want to say is something from FF VIII or IX. SOOOO familiar!
-There seems to be a new feature called "Fortune Highlights" where the characters you play as will comment (with voiced dialog) on various moments in the game.

I would definitely play this if it gets localized as I always wanted to try it. The most similar experience I had was the Command Board from KH:BBS. I'm probably in the minority of people who really liked that mini-game but sadly the AI wasn't up to par for it to be worth it in the longterm.

I guess I could play it in Japanese given it's a language I'm studying but I would rather avoid the hassle of setting up a JP PSN account and/or messing with the payment methods.

I hope the youtube thing means something but i doubt it. There have been more character trailers than those two but i haven't bothered posting them >.> but I haven't seen any of the play through stuff so that is nice to see. I will at least add the playthrough to the Op, the character trailers will be nice if someone makes an OT when it launches though.

the KH game was similar but a lot more streamlined, in some ways it was actually better than fortune street, in other ways it wasn't.

There is a very poorly done fan patch for the ps2 version, and a decent fan patch for the psp version (though I would recommend the ps2 one since it has sphere mode) both are enough that you can play it without knowing japanese as the menu stuff for the most part is at least translated. So even if we don't get this you could maybe look into those. Though if you import the psp version, and have a psp then you could obtain the psp emulator for your phone and play that just fine on there.

I'm hoping to rectify this very soon ;)

I'm seeing Chinese version on PS Store Thailand. Does this mean English version is imminent? Heck I didn't even see Japanese version of the game.

play asia has a chinese version of the game, so I think all it means sadly is that there will be a chinese version. it doesn't have any english listed for that version.
on the flip side tokyo gameshow is just around the corner, and while they are rare some english announcements happen. don't count on it though. If you want to play this game you will likely need to either learn japanese or use a guide.

I am planning on at the very least learning the stuff in itadaki street lol.

I want sphere mode confirmed though :/

Sorry if this is a silly question, but is this anything like the Command Board minigame in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep?

actually the command board game is no doubt based off this series.
they are actually quite similar, though command is a lot more streamlined.

where as the command stuff typically took what 10-30 minutes it's not uncommon for an itadaki game to take 1-2 hours.

New overview trailer!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezhmDsf6dZk

They show a LOT of new maps. I spotted

Rendarak from DQ2 (PS2)
Ancient Library from FFV (PSP)
Ghost Ship from DQ3 (Wii)
Seabed Shrine from DQ6 (PS2)

and a whole bunch of crazy looking brand new ones!

They also had not one but TWO stage shows from TGS

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLr9JQJAauM
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQd_jpnPCVg

What I picked up from watching both of these

-Sylvia from DQXI is playable and voiced by Masaya Onosaka
-There's a new stage from DQXI as well. The layout is the same as Dharma Temple/Alltrades Abbey from the PSP game except with a new twist that shuffles spaces around.
-They quickly show off a new version of the Slimenia board from the Wii game.
-They're making a spiffy wired PS4 controller that looks like a slime.
-They mentioned many maps being made available as DLC I think I spotted Tantagel DQ1/PSP) and I THINK Yggdrasil (DQ4/PS2) listed. They also say "AND MORE" which makes me think there's more than stages being worked on. (Sphere mode, pretty please?)

I think the only reason the one we ever got happened was because it had Mario in it and it technically is a party game - the genre the Wii was most known for.

To be fair we also got the iOS game. I still think the only reason we didn't get the PS2 game originally was the lack of the "modern" versions of DQ games in the west that they could base the DQ stuff off of.

I was really optimistic, but I'm a little worried now because there's a lot of stuff from Dragon Quest X (the MMO they haven't released here) like Venture Cards, 2 Characters (one of which is featured quite prominently in the intro) and a Map. That alone might make them think, "Nah! Why bother?"

I'm still holding out a little hope, but I would have expected it to be announced by now if it was going to get announced.

either way... you are an amazing person. As I just got an new translation notice, and see that you kept good on your word a mere 1 day after you said you would fix it soon (aka two weeks ago, as the translation updates can be slow to come out lol)

I found a couple of videos of someone playing the demo:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6Pifvygu6w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhixtH2mj6g

Not a whole lot of stuff here aside from seeing the menu and such. But I did find:

-The FF Level Up theme is ripped straight from FFX's Victory Theme
-We FINALLY get a good look at the Casino games which are ripped straight from the PSP game: Slots, Battle Coliseum, VS Metals, and Chocobo Forest.
-Still can't recognize the track used for Venture Cards

Also, small site update (I'm not even going to bother with the "character trailers" anymore, but there's a page detailing the DLC:

http://www.jp.square-enix.com/itastDQFF30th/map/index.html

All I could recognize is Slimenia, Cloverland (classic Itadaki Street stage, the Delfino Map stage in the Wii game is based on it), and Tantagel (from the PSP game more likely)

Any word on how the Itadaki Coins work? Saw that digital preorders comes with 200 itadaki coins, and I’m concerned that they something annoying.

After Minna no Golf’s new version where the almost 10000yen edition, far from being a complete version, is still hampered by pay to win microtransactions, seeing if they’re doing something like that here or not.

For anyone interested in Fortune Street, it might also be worth your time checking out Culdcept Revolt for 3DS. It was recently released and is a great localization. The character art is done by the artist from 999. The story is surprisingly engaging too.

The gameplay seems pretty similar to Fortune Street -- you roll dice and go around the map buying land. You can upgrade land to make more money. The more land of the same color you have, the higher the value of each of the lands, and you can also purchase something like stocks from Fortune Street.

What it adds is a slightly more strategic layer -- rather than just pure ownership, you are placing down monsters from a hand of cards. Whenever you land on a spot, you can choose to pay the toll or fight the monster with your own hand of cards. In between games, you get new cards and build new decks with different synergies. It's a long running series so the combat is usually pretty robust and balanced in my opinion.

Here's the OT: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1441865

So I've been refreshing the Hong Kong store now and again to see if an English version of Fortune Street would show up, but I've just noticed the full version has dropped the (Chinese Ver.) at the end. Does this mean English will be in or am I just grasping at straws?

Fingers crossed for PSX if not...

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en...rder/cid=HP0082-CUSA09572_00-ASIAPLACEHOLDER0

I still wouldn't count on an english version.

though I will note I believe sony has a show this month at the end of the month in the Uk.

also... what is up with the link you have there. the first time I clicked it actually showed an english page for the game, but now it won't load anymore. (it talked about preorder bonuses of like 200 coins or something lol with a link to try the demo, and ps4 only for platforms)

can you make fake pages for the playstation store?

Using foreign stores when you have cookies for another region is weird on PSN. If you open it as an incognito tab, it should work.

And yeah, not counting on it, but did find it weird that for months it said "(Chinese Ver.) Like the demo still does, but now it's been removed.

ah so it is the HK store.

so now I have to ask... how common is it for the HK store to have a fully english translation for the game, and that game to not release in english?

only one I see that might be that way is HOSHIORI YUMEMIRAI?

DOAX3 and Summer Lesson are up on there. It's out today anyway so hopefully should find out one way or the other. Tempted to buy it anyway as I've played enough Fortune Street that I know what all the menu items will do.

That is my plan. I am going to give it until the end of the year to get a localization announcement, and if there isn't one import it.

I have like 300 hours sunk into itadaki street games, I don't imagine it will be that hard to play the game without english for me.

that being said if sphere mode is in the game, that will be harder to do without english.

edit: I see the game is available for purchase on the HK store.

amazingly 468hk converts to 59.99 lol

though it does also clearly say (Chinese Ver.) again :(

It's not that common, but there are a few examples. A recent one would be that new Gundam Strategy-RPG which got an english translation and retail version in asian regions. Demon's Souls got an english asia-release way before it was a thing in the west. Some english retail versions are also asia-exclusive. For example Soul Sacrifice Delta or the first Sword Art Online RPG for Vita.

I'm modestly hopeful for a western release date announcement next year, all DLC included. But I'd totally import an Asian version with English text.

Speaking of DLC. Site update with more maps!

http://www.jp.square-enix.com/itastDQFF30th/map/index.html

Looks like there's a completely new map based on Charlock Castle from DQ1!

Also we get a decent look at the DLC stages. I recognize some of the map layouts from the iOS game, otherwise I see Slimenia (Wii), Ancient Library (FFV/PSP), and Tantagel (DQ1/PSP)

Dammit! :lol. But yeah, that's my plan too. Hold out until PSX to see if it gets announced and if not, pull the trigger.

You earn Itadaki Coins by playing the game and they can be used to unlock characters, maps etc.
