North Korean UN envoy says 'nuclear war may break out at any moment'

The Guardian said:
North Korea's deputy UN ambassador has warned that the situation on the Korean peninsula ”has reached the touch-and-go point and a nuclear war may break out any moment".

Kim In-ryong told the UN general assembly's disarmament committee that North Korea is the only country in the world that has been subjected to ”such an extreme and direct nuclear threat" from the United States since the 1970s and said the country has the right to possess nuclear weapons in self-defence.

He pointed to large-scale military exercises every year using ”nuclear assets" and said what is more dangerous is what he called a US plan to stage a ”secret operation aimed at the removal of our supreme leadership".

This year, Kim said, North Korea completed its ”state nuclear force and thus became the full-fledged nuclear power which possesses the delivery means of various ranges, including the atomic bomb, H-bomb and intercontinental ballistic rockets".

”The entire US mainland is within our firing range and if the US dares to invade our sacred territory even an inch it will not escape our severe punishment in any part of the globe," he warned.

this is not rhetoric that differs from the normal, and is not a threat of war.

this is not the nuke test threat or guam threat

people really need to read the words of these statements rather than hysterical reporting on them which often factually misreport what was said or leave out qualifiers

Since this was yesterday afternoon...not at all?

Know this shit is scary but can we please stop stoking people's fears and anxiety with statements like this?

Fox & Friends runs only in the morning in the US, or? (sorry, .eu here).
It depends if they will show it.

Normal people are forever damned to spend their lives in fear because of the whims of the few narcissts that rule them.

This fucking world...

this post is gonna look great when 10+ million are dead

NK leadership aren't super keen on having their country totally annihilated, as much as they want you to believe that. I'd put money on Trump blinking first, though. Scary thought. Have to hope military leaders on both sides handle it.

I'm not so afraid of casualties in the US. I don't think NK will ever make it with a nuke out here. What I'm worried about is that the motherfuckers in NK are so crazy they will likely deploy all their nuclear assets on South Korea. NK will be wiped out anyway, so they will probably figure why not take SK with them. Imagine the damage this will do to the US' reputation. It will hurt far, far more than anything NK can launch at them, and for much, much longer.

We would be ruined.

you do realize that, while NK cant do anything to the US, it can annihalate SK and Japan.. not that it matters for US people i guess
Which will be responded to by annihilation of North Korea by the US, and even China and Russia would support that. Unless Kim is truly going crazy and his generals don't put a bullet in his head when he orders the attack, nothing will really happen.

Better to nuke Japan than your Korean brothers, if you're going to nuke something. Nuking SK will just be stupid. Conventional weapons and invasion as a counter strategy, sure.

“Science officer. Do you detect any signs of intelligent life on the third planet from the Sol Star?”

“Negative Captain. They’re playing with nukes”

“I guess we are done here. Let’s move on to Risa”

But Captain, there are signs of goodness coming from the little people. They are crushed under the yoke of greed and commercialism. Should we assume governance and fix things?

1. NK would hit both SK and Japan, killing God knows how many.
2. Even if the nuke doesn't physically hit the US, they can detonate it in the atmosphere, causing an EMP blast that would wipe most of the electronics on the West coast.

The difference, I suppose, is that only since very recently they actually succeeded in developing the proper technology for nuclear weapons.

And also the United States is lead by a mad man more unstable in personality and character than the leader of North Korea.

There's Japan too, yeah.

Even if they fail the world just won't blame NK for it. They'll turn around and look at the US, saying: you caused this.

We'll be seen as the clear enemy moreso than NK. And if the US attacks NK and wipes them off the map with conventional weapons, we'll probably be violating a bunch of international laws and be charged with God knows how many war crimes. It's just a lose-lose situation if NK decides to launch an attack.

Who would have thought we will have a fucking cuba crisis part 2.
Hopefully Trump won't be stupid enough and tweet some unresponsible shit.

"No, we watched and waited now for 500 years. After the last two world wars, all hope is lost. Just erase the entire planet from universe."
*ctrl alt delete*

The probability of that happening is almost zero to none... i think

I read that a lot lately.
then Brexit happend. then Trump happend.

At some point it's hard to feel fear when everything is already falling apart and people are already dieing. If they attack I'll be in shock, same if we attack first, but right now until something happens I don't take any of this seriously it's been far too long.

Nuking NK after they've launched a nuclear attack isn't a violation of any international laws. Indeed, current international relations and stability hinge entirely on there being devastating consequences for nuclear attacks.
