I'd be feeling a lot better about the game if all of this shiny periphery content they've been trumpeting to distract us (CGI movie, anime, mobile game, etc.) wasn't being rushed out ahead of the game's release but was planned for after its launch to supplement it.

Tabata directed games: BCFF7, CCFF7, The 3rd Birthday, FFtype0

I by no means a Nomura fan. I prefer non-Kitase+Nomura FF games back in the days.
For Nomura's games, despite some design choices I don't really agree with, they are still great games inside. For Tabata's games (excluding FFXV), I can only say although there are some good steps in a right direction, there are major areas in the core gameplay need to be improved. Sadly, maybe Tabata's incrdible ego gets in his way this time, nothing seems to have been improved since Type0. Hell, to me, FFXV is just a glorified FFtype0, with all its flaws in the core gameplay intact. It seems Tabata refuses to learn how to improve his ability as a game designer.
And don't get me started on their ability to make trailers.

Honestly that's exactly what I'm expecting. People should not expect characters like the hooded man to really have any significance. Characters like the hooded man, Aranea Highwind and General Glauca will be side characters a la Jihl Nabaat and Yaag Rosch from FF13.
And what about this guy?
I remember people were theorizing that he was Noctis' uncle who goes bad and betrays Noctis' father.
It's funny because fan theories and speculation like that sound way better than what we may end up with if those leaks are true.

The ability to make a good trailer =/= the ability to make a good game. Don't get me wrong in terms of talent, Nomura is pretty good but vastly overrated. From a development standpoint he had a good start with arguably one of the weirdest and best RPG of all time in Kingdom Hearts, from then on it started to be a convoluted mess of a story with Organization XIII, The Nobodies, and everything else. Its also amusing that you compare Nomura to Tabata when the latter was relegated to make small budget games on small platforms with 3rd Birthday being the exception on the PS3 (Type 0-PSP, Crisis Core-PSP). I find it amusing the amount of revisionist history from Tabata critics when Type 0 first released, there was a huge outcry from the Western audience petitioning to get the game localized in English. When it was finally ported to the PS4 and Xbox One, it was predictably outdated.

Also, Verendus knows a lot, but not everything(and on many accounts, have stated so much). This leaker guy seems to be some sort of "god of information" that, unless you worked arms deep in every aspect of the development project(with the programmers, with the testers, at the meetings), you wouldn't possibly KNOW that much.

I hope this is made up...demos and trailers have already proved bad gameplay and main characters...the overarching story and world being crap would be sad since I know I'm still going to play the game anyway

I never said I thought they were shitty, I'm just stating that the game seems to be in constant revisions every time we get a new glimpse at it ('we've taken fan feedback into consideration and added this entirely new system that wasn't in the previous build, e.g. wait mode'). Not only has their Japanese studio released a broken and unfinished game, the game was also a mainline final fantasy game. Final Fantasy XIV was released in a state that had to be scrapped and restarted.
After a decade worth of on and off development time, I would expect share holders are putting fire to the company's feet. I don't think it's too ludicrous to suggest that SE is also in a rush to release this title.

Well. If you consider the expense and disruption of fixing FFXIV, I'd expect them to not want to release prematurely if they don't have to. And more to the point, considering Sept 30 is a date that's early in the holiday season and way away from the end of the financial year, seems to me that they have a decent amount of wiggle-room in case of slippage built in, before it impacts the financials.

That sounds a bit disingenuous, though. I would think people see a 10 page thread with purportedly huge plot, gameplay and development spoilers with no edits and mods posting in it as something of a verification in and of itself. Could just be me, though.

Well, "mods" in this case seems to be pretty much me, and I'm actually hands off on moderating/editing FFXV threads with regards to speculation (or even participating in speculation-related discussion) up through till release for other reasons.

It's been known that you are going to search for the weapons of the "Old Kings" since Episode Duscae basically gave you the description about each Phantom Sword BEING a former Lucis King's blade. This isn't a new concept.
When this poster was "leaking" BS in that thread, he conjured up false information to appear aloof and credible. Like someone who has no stakes in the entire thing. Saying stuff like Tabata and co. don't know what to do so they made the car break down twice in the game.
He's seemingly purposely left out things to sound legit in a weird way.
