Compile Heart opens teaser website for 4 Goddesses Online (Neptunia)

This week, the CPU candidates get officially added to the website. Yian already posted Nepgear's art + screenshot above.

Rom = warrior, Ram = ninja, Uni = thief.

Also a new trailer that's just about the story, with no gameplay footage.

Finally, they've set up a website within a website for 4 Goddesses Online, that I'm assuming is supposed to be like its official website in Gamindustri.

It was unfair of me to criticise the game's visuals on another thread, I actually think it looks really nice as Tamsoft's Unreal 4 title.

Tamsoft have always done a better job with animation and character models in previous games compared with Compile Heart, and this takes what they specialise in further. While the environments aren't anything to write home about the lighting and cel shading give this game a really unique look to the series, and that I like.

You often get complaints about asset reuse or the perception of it being a thing across games, so this is nice.

Imo people see "unreal" and "ps4 only" and start seeing things that aren't there.

A different engine and a different console don't magically make a game looking like uncharted 4 for example, a develper can work on the best console and the best engine but to get uncharted 4 graphics you need a developer with the talent of naughty dog and a huge budget.

Character models aren't THAT better, honestly they look like the usual ones with just different clothes, textures are actually improved or maybe just differently shaded, what some people see as an effect of cel shading is just texture, the light is actually really flat, environments are also better but nothing that couldn't have been made on ps3 too, i mean look at the ground texture here, it's mid budget ps3 game level at best.

Okay, I was right to criticise then :D

I guess I'm just happy to see this game now, I love the setting. Nepgear being a witch/magician is really cool.

Edit: Oh right, this is what I posted. I started a mini debate though ;D

Doesn't really look particularly balanced. The quality of the assets is now lagging far behind the quality of the effects work. (Presumably) stilted animation won't help matters either.

I do place more faith in Tamsoft to make sure the animation isn't bad.

The big improvement I see here is in the environment meshes. It's nothing spectacular, but what they were using before looked like it was lifted straight out of a PS2 game.

Environment models and meshes have always been a sticking point for me in mid budget JRPGs since the characters themselves usually look great but the environment around them is usually lacking in detail.

I'm pretty burnt out on the reused assets and the same formula for all the rebirth games/fairy fencer.

This seems noticeably different and improved so that has me excited. I also dig all the character redesigns.

Good news!
Iiked the first 2 games, well the second one was not so good... but will buy the third and then look forward this! :D

Can't wait for more Nep-Nep!

Yeah, it definitely looks more fleshed out instead of barren. Even if the *quality* of the assets isn't a huge step up, it feels more like the environment design isn't being held back against whatever concept art they are based from.

The special attacks look surprisingly sharp? I haven't played VII (so maybe it started there), but it actually looks impressive to me with how the camera moves around.

Dayum, this just keeps looking better and better. I just got V-II and Fairy Fencer F on sale, but I think if I don't have too much else unfinished whenever this comes out in English I might end up getting it right away.

I know it was going to happen but ugh at the Kirito clone. Other than that, everything is looking like an improvement!

I am increasingly convinced there is a pact where the world will end unless there's a new Neptunia game every year. These things are churned out at an amazing rate.

On topic though, are the Nep games all connected? Or are they stand alone affairs? I only played a bit of the first one and whatever the latest one was called

It does look a lot better than I had expected (I've probably said as much a few times already), though in the latest trailer the framerate looks pretty iffy in places.

I hope this is better than Tamsoft's last two efforts in the sub-series. Neptunia U was an exercise in tedium. It would have been alright if you didn't reach the skill ceiling within an hour of starting the game. Capping the combo chain at 999 and the score chain at 9,999,999, and making it super easy to reach both within the first half-minute of a level, killed what was left of the game for me. As the rest was the usual poorly-balanced button mashing - the level system and equipment basically means the game's either trivially easy, or the unthreatening enemies become damage sponges.

Wow these screenshots looking good. Definitely on my list now.

Uni + thief is all I need. Also, Noire is great as always :p

Sorry Battleship I must disagree and put my weight behind Black Heart's outfit. Course Nepgear will always look better than everyone else so it doesn't really matter.

Just waiting for the localisation announcement. They could push out one game a month and I'd buy all of them. I'm a slave to CH.

New video featuring a lot of (continuous) gameplay footage. 2 weeks left until release.

Fuck, that video has me a little worried now. My biggest gripe with Megatagmension (and some other Tamsoft games like the Senran Kagura games) is that the boss enemies hitstun (might not be the right term) is garbage, with some of them pretty much never reacting at all no matter how much you attack them. That boss enemy near the end only seemed to react to their attacks like 4 times aside from the break at the end.

I was really looking forward to this but if that sort of shit is too prevalent then it'll really sour the whole experience for me...
