"Hard to get" is just "I'm not interested in you". Not a single chick unless she is a complete idiot will play this game with a guy she genuinely likes.

Agreed. "Hard to get" is either "kindly leave me the hell alone" or "I'm really freaking bored and you look like someone I can kill some time screwing with"

Instructing women that promiscuity is shameful? What a cutting edge article!

how are you, B!TCH? How is your day going, B!ITCH?
I don't think men and women are supposed to understand each other.

I went through a single period before my current relationship where I had a lot of women friends. A lot of them would say things like, "you are a great guy but I wouldn't date you," even though I wasn't asking them to be my girlfriend or anything like that. I was just enjoying being single and they just happened to be my friends. Fast forward to now when I find myself in a fairly serious relationship and all of a sudden all these women are coming out of the woodwork telling me they miss me and how they would've dated me if I'd "shown any interest in them." Ain't that some shit? You preemptively cut off any possibility of me being interested in you by telling me you don't like me in that way then you turn it around on me and blame me for not taking the initiative as if I'm supposed to be able to read your mind and automatically know that you mean the exact opposite of the words that are coming out of your mouth.

Have you actually been in a relationship? Because women play hard to get and constantly test you even when they are in a relationship.

I'm sure women are thrilled to get advice from this Solomon of relationships - hell, he says he's been wanting to write that article for a long time, so it must be something profound and not actually regurgitated shit you'll hear any dumb drunk asshole spew on an average night out on town. Not.

It's called social proof. It happens all the time when you enter a new relationship. Occurs to both men and women.

Have you actually been in a relationship? Because women play hard to get and constantly test you even when they are in a relationship.
Sounds like an unhealthy relationship.

Did you read the article? It isn't saying it's shameful to be promiscuous. It's saying that bragging about how much sex you're having on twitter is doesn't make you a feminist. That it's just as uncouth for a woman to talk about all the dicks she's sucking as a dude talking about all the random chicks he screwing.

I have to wonder what exactly is meant by hard to get. Not wanting to go out with you and not wanting to look desperate aren't the same thing.

The whole premise is wrong. Yes, men are jealous of guys who get a lot of women, but women are wrong to think it's a trait that garners much respect. No one says, "We need to calm corporate unrest -- be sure to tell the shareholders how much tang our new CEO is getting." It might surprise women, but do you know what we call guys who go out and try to screw everything? Whores. Know what we call the guy who's always going on and on about all the women he's landed? An asshole. And in my experience, even guys who are legitimately good at having a bunch of promiscuous sex wouldn't make a big show of it.

It's a subtle distinction. Yes, feminism is about women having the same right as men to be irresponsible, brash and slutty, I'll agree. But being brash, irresponsible and slutty doesn't make you a feminist. It doesn't make you empowered. It just makes you as irresponsible, brash and slutty as some of the dudes we don't like. Think of it this way: It was completely unjust to deny black citizens the right to vote, but having gained that right, would a black man be empowering his race by voting for a segregationist?

Whatever dude. One man's prude is another man's slut and vice versa. Can't win. Can't win. How's about just not judging people for sleeping around at all?

It's the same thing, thinly veiled. Is there actually an epidemic of girls who think publicly announcing how many dicks they're sucking is empowering them without any negative consequences to how they're being perceived, that this guy needs to come in and instruct them otherwise? Come on.

Instead of being all high and mighty about it let's be realistic here.

If you are looking to engage in a long term relationship with someone you can't honestly tell me that finding out one of the girls your interested in has a history of drunken one night stands, a social casualness about being viewed as promiscuous, finds sleeping around to be something completely cool or even to be held in high regard and doesn't apparently think deeply about any of the consequences of these actions that that is someone you'd be 100% happy to commit to and it wouldn't raise a single red flag?

Hell just pick one of those qualities and tell me you wouldn't have some raised level of hesitation.

Fair enough but I'm a man and I can't say I've ever been interested in dating a woman I wasn't already interested in dating. My friends are my friends, and the women I'm interested in dating are the women I'm interested in dating. No social proof required.

Instead of being all high and mighty about it let's be realistic here.

There are plenty of women out there who aren't promiscuous, but you aren't going to find them hanging out at a bar by themselves.

I've wanted to write this column for quite some time, but I was afraid of coming off as some sort of spokesman for angry dudes everywhere.
Typical bullshit that you'll see often from people who are also inclined to say things like "I don't want to be racist..." or "Not that I hate chinese people..."

You're are not going to win this debate. This is the same place that called some members prudish for not wanting to have a relationship with a porn star.

I think the judgement calls would be different if they were the ones sleeping with her.

I'm not trying to win though. I just think people are being obtuse if they don't think things like that would possibly set off red flags, unless your as unaware of the consequences as those girls are.

And I'm not talking about casual dating for a few weeks, I'm talking commitment and settling down.

I mean woman(or men) like that carry a higher probability of STDs's. And I'd say 99% of those that are excessively promiscuous don't blatantly flaunt it which means they have years of building up tactics of deceit and dishonesty and such to temper the emotions of the other partners or people in their social circles. Which in my experience and from friends that have been excessively promiscuous they are more deceitful in relationships, more open to affairs and cheating and less likely to empathize and work out problems correctly.

I'm certainly broad brushing but I can't fathom how a person who hears about a girl that is excessively promiscuous, appears intensely unaware of the consequences of her actions and in the worst case scenarios doesn't give a flipping fuck if people know or not aren't going to have at least some heightened hesitation when it comes to entering a long term relationship with that person.

What is excessively promiscuous? Why don't we define that first. Then maybe you'll actually understand the context of my post.

You know, change this imaginary person to a man and I doubt you would think twice about this kind of behavior.

And besides, as long as this imagined woman would be willing to commit to a relationship, sure, why not? I'm not going to fault someone for doing what they wanted sexually before they met me.

I would say the sort of girl that sleeps around with multiple partners up to several times a week. Is frequent with one night stands and in the most extreme case would be the girl actually flaunts it and thinks it makes her look more desirable.

Now realize that your definition isn't the universal one. And if it were a man, in many circles he would be considered a "stud" for getting all that "pussy."

A proper and healthy relationship doesn't involve this at all.

"Does this make me look fat?"
"Do you think my friend is attractive?"
"What do you think of my mother?"

So on so fourth.

I suppose you make a fair argument that 99% of people are in unhealthy relationships with their significant other.

No I would. I have and have had plenty of male whore friends and they pretty much embody those generalizations I spoke of. Though I will say, and take as much offense to it as you'd like, but there is a not insignificant number of woman that do end up finding men with a lot of partners appealing in some way. Which probably speaks to that social cred thing and that lots of women are actually very competitive.

Eh, I know a guy who sleeps with a ton of women. I keep telling him to get tested before his dick falls off.

Sure but were talking about whether or not a woman's excessive promiscuousness - and openness about it - helps or hurts her in trying to land someone for a relationship. I agree with the OP in that right or wrong, it hurts them.

I agree many men still see excessive partners as laudable......probably something to do with our evolutionary biology and inherent drive to spread our seed.

The only kind of people who ask trap questions are immature girls who lack self-confidence. Usually when people get older they cut that shit out (not everyone of course, but a good number of them.)

If you're a young college student, then sure, a man or woman that sleeps around with multiple partners becomes desirable, but if you're looking for a real relationship, neither a man or a woman will want to go out with a man or woman that just has sex all over the place.

In every species there is a dominant sex. In humans I think it's pretty obvious that it's the male. We're faster, stronger and more intelligent. The only reason feminism exists is because we allow it. I'm not saying men are better than women... but yes that is what I'm saying. If women were the dominant sex life would consist of gossip, romantic comedies and web sites with people posting pictures of what they did last weekend.
