ALBUM with a ton of photos (thanks to ashecitism)

The Visuals:
A 1,200 by 1,080 pixel screen in front of each eye, with refresh rates of a blistering 90 frames per second, displays photorealistic imagery that fills your field of vision in all directions, eliminating the jitter common to previous VR technologies and transporting you to another world.

The Audio:
Plug your favorite set of headphones into a jack located on the side of the Developer Edition headset.

Tracking and Room Scale:
A gyrosensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensor combine to precisely track the rotation of your head on both axes to an accuracy of 1/10th of a degree, allowing you to look around the virtual environment naturally. Couple the headset with a pair of Steam VR base stations to track your physical location (in spaces up to 15 feet by 15 feet) – get up and walk around inisde the virtual world!

Custom and Game Controller:
Ergonomic VR game controllers in each hand allow you to use virtual objects and interact with the virtual world. The position of each controller is tracked in space, allowing developers to simulate a wide range of activities and interactions.

interesting. Just watching it now, I was actually surprised.

Looks too bulky though.

I wonder if it's a marketing partnership, technology and information sharing between the two firms or help with producing a headset.

I said it so in the other thread, it was probable. Valve isn't going to manufacture hundreds of thousands of devices by themselves, they needed a partner.

Didn't expect that to be announced today, I thought the fun starts with GDC next week! Haven't been so giddy in a while, exciting times.

It's a partner and not Valve's only partner, right?

Either way, it's coming out at the end of the year, so it's not definitely coming out before the Oculous. This should be interesting.

Looks like it has bunch of on-board sensor. Hopefully this means it does not requires external camera.

I'm very interested about specs and availability. Valve will most surely push for wide adoption of PC VR titles on Steam.

Oh wow, game changer possibly for me.

I love HTC phones, their build quality is incredible, best I have ever used or seen.

Teaming with valve hopefully means they tick all the right boxes. This could leap over Rift.

Unbelievable. Inside-out tracking is actually happening way sooner than I thought. How exciting as well that SteamVR is apparently the platform that HTC will use. Steam coming to mobile in the form of VR I guess

Is it possible that oculus announced too early and waited too long for a final product? Competition is getting fierce!
