Sigma Alpha Epilson brothers of University of Oklahoma (@uofoklahoma) caught on tape singing the follow chant lyrics:
ฺ
"There will never be a nigger at #SAE
There will never be a nigger at #SAE
You can hang'em from a tree,
but they'll never sign with me.
There will never be a nigger at #SAE

Mean while their Non-Description Policy reads: The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, age or physical or mental disability, religion, marital status, military status, order of protection status and unfavorable military discharge. It's been said the chapter is under investigation (@uofoklahoma).

This has been blowing up on social media. Hopefully something happens!

I was thinking about making this a thread with the title "Oklahoma University chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon releases minority relations video."

oh well

The video, posted to Twitter this evening by Unheard, which describes itself as "an alliance of Black students organized for change within campus administration and atmosphere," shows young men on a bus chanting "There will never be a n----r at SAE."

The tweet, directed at OU president David Boren, says "Racism is alive at The University of Oklahoma."

Boren responded on Twitter, saying, "If the video is indeed of OU students, this behavior will not be tolerated and is contrary to all of our values."

Brad Cohen, the national president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, said the chapter "has immediately been placed on a cease and desist."

In a series of tweets, the national SAE organization said it was aware of the video and was "shocked and appalled." It said it was investigating and "will sanction those who are responsible."

Whoever it was that took that video might consider moving out of state. It will take them about 5 seconds to figure out who that was based on the video's POV.

Statement from SEA:

FRATERNITY LEADERSHIP CLOSES CHAPTER AT UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA

NORMAN, OK – Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national headquarters has closed its Oklahoma Kappa chapter at the University of Oklahoma following the discovery of an inappropriate video. In addition, all of the members have been suspended, and those members who are responsible for the incident may have their membership privileges revoked permanently.

We apologize for the unacceptable and racist behavior of the individuals in the video, and we are disgusted that any member would act in such a way. Furthermore, we are embarrassed by this video and offer our empathy not only to anyone outside the organization who is offended but also to our brothers who come from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities.

This type of racist behavior will not be tolerated and is not consistent with the values and morals of our fraternity. We have more than 15,000 collegiate members across the nation, and this incident should not reflect on other brothers because this type of hateful action is not what Sigma Alpha Epsilon stands for. This is absolutely not who we are.

We teach our members to serve as role models in their communities and to live up to our creed, “The True Gentleman.” When members fail to do so, we will not hesitate to take corrective actions or to impose sanctions. Any behavior that is not aligned with the conduct we expect is unacceptable. Equally unacceptable is bystander behavior of members who fail to intervene when they witness conduct that deviates from our beliefs.

“I was not only shocked and disappointed but disgusted by the outright display of racism displayed in the video,” said Brad Cohen, the fraternity’s national president. “SAE is a diverse organization, and we have zero tolerance for racism or any bad behavior. When we learned about this incident, I called an immediate board meeting, and we determined with no mental reservation whatsoever that this chapter needed to be closed immediately. I am proud of my fellow board members because we mean what we say.”

Although Sigma Alpha Epsilon regrets the closure, we believe members must be held responsible for their actions. We are hopeful that we can re-establish the Oklahoma Kappa chapter at some point in the future with a group of men who exemplify our beliefs and who serve as leaders on campus and in the community.

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of a fraternity is? I never quite understood that (and why they always have such ridiculous names).

*boggle* just...why?
They were doing everyone else a favor by outing themselves as racists and removing themselves from the university. Thanks, SAE and best of luck to you guys finding employment from anyone who does background checks!

It's a social club for making friends, doing activities, and networking.

Literally thinking saying "please don't be OU, please don't be OU," when opening this thread. Goddamn, fuck those assholes. So ashamed my school admits nutsacks like this. :(

No one is going to get expelled for this, im betting. Frat will get sanctioned or kicked off of campus, but expelling students for the N word? Don't think that's going to happen.

Could this get them expelled from their college?

I don't know if they can be expelled for it, but I bet the school boots the fraternity off campus, and if this is a national Fraternity, they probably get their charter suspended.

One can dream.
But why do they have HQ, are sometimes organized like a business, have a hierarchy and these things?

And how are fraternities connected to the university?
I cannot get too far into it as I have never been a part of a fraternity, but I believe it's like any other organization. There are local chapters under the umbrella of the organization. This creates connections between the members across the country. They also get money from dues and donations.

They are associated with the university because, I believe, they can be considered good for the university. They usually have GPA requirements and do charity work. Being associated with the school gives them credibility and the school a degree of control over them.

Well at least the school administration is saying the right things right now. Let's hope they actually act and punish accordingly.

People with a lot more power than these jocks paid the price for such idiocy, I guess they're done, and if I were them I'd change state too.
