Call me crazy, but MK x Darkstalkers makes SO MUCH more sense than SF x MK. I can't be the only one who sees this, right?

The worlds just slot so perfectly into each other. Makai is effectively just another realm. Side-by-side, MK and DS characters don't look all that incongruous with each other. Their design concepts mesh really well and would transition well in either direction.

DS already has a little blood and some dark themes, and I imagine Capcom is less protective of the DS cast than the SF characters.

Basically what I'm saying is that THIS is the fighting game crossover I'd most want to see.

Man I not only think it's incredibly unlikely but I actively hope it doesn't happen. Nrs mechanics are a fucking mess.

Just imagine all the Darkstalkers female characters done by Netherrealm...

Darkstalkers seems too lighthearted for a MK crossover. Yeah there is more violent stuff like Jedah, but not gore porn like Mortal Kombat.

If they did astral finishes like ASW games and not fatalities and gore then yeah it might work for any NRS vs Capcom franchise. I find it highly unlikely we'll ever see it though. I'd dig seeing Scorpion done capcom vs series style paired up with Jedah.

Killer Instinct x Darkstalkers is a better fit.

I would love this. Killer Instinct more or less has similar violence levels to Darkstalkers, and the cast line up really well with Sabrewulf/Jon Talbain (werewolves), Spinal/Lord Raptor (undead), Kan Ra/Anakaris (mummies), etc.

Killer Instinct and Darkstalkers individually aren't popular compared to the other fighting game juggernauts, and then there is the whole issue regarding the Xbox exclusivity and it pretty much being nonexistent in Japan. Still, I like that crossover idea.

I've only played MK9 and MKX so I'm going off those. I would assume using modern versions would be important.

Just pointing out that the series is perfectly capable of not taking itself seriously.

The MK3 line was really jokey with a lot of its fatalaties and also featured Friendships back from MK2. It also introduced animalities and even a lot of those were cornball (Scorpion turning into a penguin and laying an exploding egg, for example).

I don't see how any Capcom fighting franchise could mesh with MK's due to their anime-esque designs.

That's a matter of artstyle, I'm talking about design aethetic. Darkstalker characters have designs that would fit right into MK and vice-versa.

I honestly want nothing Capcom X Nether.

Mortal Kombat is cool and all but it's absolutely it's own franchise I don't feel has any crossover appeal with Capcom games.

I hope you felt the same way about Tekken and Marvel, or can at least explain the reason why "its own franchise" does not apply to those franchises.

Darkstalkers has blood in it, but it's still done in a comical way for the most part. The style of the games do not mesh IMO. And Darkstalkers is (sadly) still in some crazy Capcom limbo right now, so I doubt it's prime for any sort of crossover currently.

Mortal Kombat crossovers are very tricky. After the "watered down" one with DC I doubt we'll see anymore like that, and I also doubt that any other big fighting franchise would allow their characters to be subjected to the intense gore of MK. (And I would agree with that decision. It doesn't have any redeeming factors for the other party IMO.)

The over the top violence, graphic style and gameplay are very different and if they met in the middle I think it would do a disservice to both franchises. SFxT wasn't a good idea and didn't mix well I think MK and SF would be even worse.

Skullgirls x Darkstalkers would make considerably more sense, though likely wouldn't have more commercial appeal than what either IP has on its own. Mortal Kombat x Killer Instinct seems like the most practical choice for an MK crossover.

And SFxT never made any sense.

Eh, I just can't get excited over DS.
Oh, and what happened with tekken x street fighter? Pretty much canned, right? :/

It doesn't have to fit thematically. Capcom and Marvel have really nothing in common with each other, but it works because it has everyone's favorite characters. MK vs. Street Fighter would be the same way.

I mean there's like a large list of iconic and popular fighting game characters from both franchises. Darkstalkers not so much.

One has a broadway-star cat girl.
One has a god of thunder that takes no shit.

There's going to be a tonal clash. MK will have to be toon-ier, or DS will have to be grittier.

The one with a god of thunder that takes no shit also has a Motion Capture guy that just sorta got dragged into this along with his boss.

The one with the Broadway-star Catgirl has a planet eating monster that is in-turn consumed by a vampire lord.
