The announcement was made this evening at the Pete Holmes-hosted affair at The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Other notable winners were The Witcher 3, Ori and the Blond Forest, and Rocket League with 3 gongs each.

As well as the standard game awards, late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was the recipient of a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, while Hideo Kojima was inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Bethesda, although I would definitely plump for The Witcher 3 since it's a milestone in modern gaming.

Nice to see Helldivers pick up the best handheld award too.

The disconnect between critics and audiences is so curious.

That said, they correctly recognised Ori as one of the best games of the year, so good on them for that.

Honestly, it's one of the only 2 games I've actually gotten a Platinum for (Infamous:SS is the other) and although there were some issues I thoroughly enjoyed playing the title. Well worth it.

Congratulations to Beth, a solid choice even if I probably would have gone with The Witcher 3 overall. Still they both shared some plaudits, which is pleasing.

While I loved Witcher 3 and enjoyed Fallout, I am not gonna go crazy because Fallout 4 won the award over Witcher 3 or Bloodbourne but it doesn't deserve to win any GOTY awards simple because of its technical problems, half-assed mechanics and uninspired story imo.

Nice to see Ori taking home some hardware, very well deserved.

As for FO4, can't say I personally agree but congrats to Bethesda.

Actually, looking at sales numbers, the devs who voted on this agree with the consumers.

That's an odd choice, but I suppose Fallout Shelter also winning is indicative of the voting. Nice to see Ori getting love from other devs.

What the fuck at Lara Croft for Outstanding character. Did we play the same game?

Could be worse... least it didn't win like say story or adventure of the year. Lara was good in many ways through, despite some quirks that still around from 2013.<.<

Disappointed that Lara Croft GO didn't win mobile through.

Adventure Game of the Year

Batman: Arkham Knight
Life is Strange
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Ori and the Blind Forest
Rise of the Tomb Raider

What the hell at this list. One of those games is an Adventure Game.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Good to see that mobile is holding the torch for wait to play no skill timer based bullshit.

Especially sad seeing there are actual games in that category.

Bethseda has achieved a pedigree in the industry that the industry itself goes out of its way to fellate the Studio. Just a simple truth.

Even while Skyrim was completely broken for consoles they still won studio of the year and such. Fallout 4 was a safe by the books sequel to the fallout series that in many ways regressed from progress made.
