Bernie Sanders said:
"This is not the time for a protest vote, in terms of a presidential campaign," Sanders said. "I ran as a third-party candidate. I'm the longest-serving independent in the history of the United States Congress. I know more about third-party politics than anyone else in the Congress, okay? And if people want to run as third-party candidates, God bless them! Run for Congress. Run for governor. Run for state legislature. When we're talking about president of the United States, in my own personal view, this is not time for a protest vote. This is time to elect Hillary Clinton and then work after the election to mobilize millions of people to make sure she can be the most progressive president she can be."

I'm not the biggest Clinton fan, but I don't get why other Bernie supporters stopped supporting or following him once this came up. If you were gonna trust him to lead the country, you should at least also consider his judgement on who the next best option is.

The people who jumped ship from Sanders to Trump really throw me through a loop period. Not even getting into the contrast in policies, I don't understand how you can dogpile Hilary's for lacking integrity yet look at Trump pandering to hate groups for votes as morally upright.

I think the simple fact is there is a large segment of people where actual policy isn't the driving force behind their decision, but rather, a complete hatred for politicians as they are, and the political process as it is.

It's because those people didn't actually care about Bernie Sanders or his policies, they just hated "The Establishment". So when Bernie Sanders endorsed an Establishment candidate, he wasn't saying "this person would be a better President than the other person", he was selling out to the system.

Most Bernie supports just wanted a political upheaval/"bring down the establishment" type idea. Though anecdotal; people i knew supported bernie but never voted in the primaries. So i doubt that many will vote at all.

Many Bernie supporters were first time voters who know very little about politics. Even on GAF you see many people who know nothing of Hillary or trumps policies or the ramifications of what either does.

I mean..the internet exist. I'm not disagreeing. I'm just finding that a hilarious notion..

A 4 year stale protest vote doesn't do as much good as an immediate protest vote.

People should vote however they please.

People very often confuse being an asshole with being honest.

Come on now Mel-Mack, we all know the Internet is for porn and rips, not education

At a fund raising event I volunteered for, one of the main Hillary reps (going unnamed here so people don't google events and find out where I work) said that they have forecasted this race to be within 2-4 percentage points. Way too low. Not a time to play with fire. I don't really like her but I hate him, so I'll do my part even though NY is going Hillary with or without me and the 1000s of other "Hillary I guess" voters.

I like what he's saying there. It's very rational thinking, and the people that supported him need to hear it before they just make a foolish decision just because their choice didn't win in the end.

Even Bernie thinks Trump might win.
this is actually the best time for the big stars to come out and start supporting hillary with a week to go for the first debate. get people fired up and hopefully have hillary deliver a solid performance in the debate and gets momentum back on her side.

Seemed more of a bandwagon than a movement/revolution.
His movement was always a bandwagon of buzzwords that the youth/anti establishment/socialists wanted to hear. Anyone who has heard his stump speach could probably quote it ad nasuaum because it was only about specific domestic issues. He never actually shared realistic ways on how he would get anything passed or how he would get many republicans to agree on his policies. Hell Im super left winged and I stopped being a fan once I realized that he shared no way of passing his legislation and that he has a horrible history with settling on political issues.

People, including those who like to rant about "neoliberalism", consumerize voting. To them, it's not about making a collective decision between possible outcomes. It's about how *I* feel; it's about my "conscience" and having a candidate that represents *me* completely.

Shame on you if you think like that. Voting is a mechanism: an instrument for democracy where millions of people coordinate to influence an outcome that will affect us all. Divorcing it from the consequences is shameful, especially when it could facilitate the rise of a demented, lie-addicted, fact-phobic, corruption-loving and anti-american neonazi who has repeatedly demonstrated that he shares all of Hillary's flaws (and magnifies them) and none of her virtues.

It is sad because I view voting as a citizens civic duty on choosing who will best be able to help the American public as a whole. Most don't see it that way.

They supported him but didn't vote? What?

I simply can't fathom those who don't vote. I do it every chance I get. So to not only support a candidate, but then go and not vote is bizarre.

Do whatever you want in a hard blue or red state. Swing states need to go blue though.
well electing a sane congress and senate is also very important. i hope if those people protest vote they at least choose the democrat for congress/senate and give people like bernie something to work with instead of an obstructionist congress/senate.

My best friend is a self proclaimed liberal and a huge Bernie supporter and he absolutely will not vote Clinton. He believes Clinton and Trump are the exact same despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. He plans to protest vote for Johnson because he sincerely believes that will fix the system. When I try to bring up the ramifications of the protest vote, he gets upset that I am "vote shaming" him. No amount of rational argument will convince him. his arguments aren't even logical or based on facts. He rather vote for GWB if he could.

Bernie is throwing himself behind Hillary Clinton. I'm glad he was able to prove those "Bitter-Bernie" people wrong.
Maybe he will push a few people who were thinking of going third party, but overall I suspect this will fall on deaf ears.

The time for a protest vote was when Romney was running. He was a bland Republican who probably could have at least handled the job.

Trump is a clear and present danger to all of our safeties and he is ushering in a new wave of white nationalism. How can people be so blind?

Not unlike a kid in the candy store who won't stop crying until they get their snickers bar.

Their hearts might be in the right place, but I can't say I'm super confident that Johnson and Stein voters pay much attention to down-ballot races. Hope I'm wrong.

CNN was just talking about how like half of 18-35s support either Johnson or Stein.

I had someone do the same on this very forum.

These people don't actually give a flying fuck what would happen to many people if a Trump presidency were to happen.

Obama came over to the UK to campaign against Brexit, didn't do much.

People are hyping these debates but I'm telling ya guys, folk could give a damn about policies, they just want drama and one liners and el Trumpo will come out with those in spades.

If Hillary is still in this position or worse after the debates the panic will be intense.
