Nintendo WFC Online Activity (W/E June 24th)

This past week has been very important for Nintendo in Japan. For Nintendo DS both a new S-E game was released, Itadaki Street, and the first Nintendo DS-game/first online game in the Legend of Zelda-series. Itadaki Street was online as well. None of the games had time to enter the Top 10 this week, seeing is they only had respectically 4 and 2 days on the marked, compared to 7 days for all the other games. We're likely to see at least one of them on next weeks chart, though, unless they somehow don't do well at all after their release week or Pokémon Battle Revolution gets a major bump from its release in NA.

Yes, Pokémon Battle Revolution releases today in America, as the first online game for Wii. It'll be good to see how it's taken care of.
The europeans aren't left empty-handed either. Puzzle League DS releases this friday, and last week it was the 16th most played (connected) online game on the service, so it should recieve a noticable bump from that release. I'll keep you updating during the week.

For the Top 10 this week, no new entries, but Mario Strikers is another spot down, Metroid Prime Hunters reached it almost every day of this past week. Hopefully we'll see another nice bump for Strikers when it releases in America in a month.

Please note

- The number of connections listed in here is not unique connections, just the total number of connections for the service during the past week.

- These data are straight off of Nintendo's Wi-Fi site, through the freeware program WFCStatus.

- A list of all released Wi-Fi game was published by me last week. See it here to compare.

Best game ever, shame about the sequels
Wow, Mario Strikers Charged Football is doing amazingly.

It's true, when I play it online, I've never waited for more than a minute for an opponent to show up. Hopefully this game sells well in america too. It's a great game.

There's a lot of people playing it online, about 40k players each week... (you can see it by looking at the rank of people with no win/loss). I hope it won't decrease too quickly.

Oh damn it, there's a whole bunch of new Wi-Fi games coming in Japan. Normally its good, but I've got to track down all sorts of stuff about them for my new website. :p

Cool info - doesn't seem to change much week on week.

Maybe I'll go through the old threads and graph the numbers to see if there are any major trends (apart from pokemon driving the service totally :D )

HOLY... WOW!

Pokémon Battle Revolution had about 8k connections sunday and hasn't had a day over 15k for a long, long time. With the game being released in America, the number of connections reached above 50k! Impressive, that's among others above the daily connection-number for Mario Kart DS (#4 on the Top 10 right now).

I don't recall seeing an official date for Worms: Open Warfare 2 yet. L.A. was announced with a release date after the OP for this week for made, I think.

Sorry about the 'bump', but I'm preparing the post for tomorrow and I need to know something. How do you want me to handle dual-releases from now on? I'm thinking of games like Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, who can connect to each other, but actually are to different games. Furthermore Transformers just got released and counting the two versions as one they actually will make it to the Top 10 it seems.

I've thought about it, and to get the 'true' number of connections I guess I'd have to count them as one, but I'm not sure. I've come up with three possibilities, please comment, or post it, if you have anything to add.

(1) Count all games separately as always.
(2) Count all games that connect to eachother as one on the chart game.
(3) Count all games that connect to eachother as one game, but make a note with the separate number of connections as well.

For (3) it would be something like

1. Pokémon Diamond & Pearl - _______ connections*
....
...
...
9. ...
10. ...

* Pokémon Diamond: _____ connections
Pokémon Pearl: _____ connections

Thanks in advance :)

3 does seem to be the most detailed. I guess it would make trend tracking harder, but with the overload of data I could get from the tool at most basic you'd be investigating completely different things.

I'm thinking that there is a 'core' online audience using most of these titles and that when new titles from a genre launch other games in that area will have dips.

Eitherway Europe and Pokemon at the end of July should see the service maxing out, it's up to Nintnedo to do online events (nad games) from that point on to help with things.

I expect an online Brain Training by the end of the year in Japan.

(3) it is. Thanks for the answers :D. It will hopefully make room for some change around the Top 10, seeing as Pokémon D/P most likely won't let go of its #1 and #2 anytime soon :).

I won't tell you the lowest games on the service, it's much harder work than listing the highest ones. I gathered a complete list last week, though, and might do it again soon if needed:

About Zelda, it includes a Pac-Man-like multiplayer-game. I'm surprised to see it doing so well being a highly based single-player game.

Ah, thanks. LOL at these:

66. Tenchu: Dark Secret - 252 connections
67. Mawashite Tsunugeru Touch Panic - 68 connections
68. Konductra - 27 connections
69. Puppynu Vector One - 16 connections
70. Elebits - 3 connections
71. Kuri Kuri DS Otasuke Island - 2 connections

That's because it wasn't officially out yet.

Ya, my mistake. As soon as the code for the official site has been found, I can track the games activity. That means that games like Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates actually can be tracked now. I just tracked all the games possible and tried to remove the non-released games afterwards. My bad about that one, should hopefully be the only one.

As mentioned in earlier threads, I'm not too sure about this one. I know it didn't sell that well, actually I think it did best in Europe, but 3 connections for the week just doesn't seem right. I'm thinking it has something to do with Elebits using the Wii Number, and therefore doesn't get tracked probably. I could be wrong, though, and Elebits just is highly unactive online.
