Coming to North America and Europe – play@PAX Prime!

August 23, 2012 – Nicalis, in collaboration with Circle Edge, proudly announces fighter “Yatagarasu” (final name and release date TBD) bound for the West! Created by a three-man team (past credits include King of Fighters), Yatagarasu rocks hard with classic 2D fighting action and tournament-level depth.

Developed over four years, Yatagarasu was originally released in 2011 as a Japan-only title. Art direction and character design by fan-favorite artist Styleos, game design and balance by ex-SNK designer Umezono and game engine by Shiza–the three-man team makes up Circle Edge. Yatagarasu also features a unique optional commentator system that mimics the tournament trash talk experience.

Attendees of PAX Prime 2012 can preview this fighting masterpiece next week (8.31, 9.1, 9.2) by visiting booth 883 (within the Indie Megabooth) and experience the action. Watch the Yatagarasu Trailer on YouTube at: Yatagarasu Nintendo 3DS Trailer

Yatagarasu Features:
- Eight playable characters
- Single and 2P Vs. modes
- Training and Replay modes
- Four-button attack system with Parry System
- Character design by Styleos
- Classic 2D hand drawn sprites
- Original soundtrack

Yatagarasu continues Nicalis’ collaborative domination with some of the best developers in the world. Previously Nicalis has teamed up with Studio Pixel (Cave Story), Nicklas Nygren (NightSky), Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV) and Sophie Houlden (Swift Stitch).

They say it's for 3DS eShop and not DSiWare, so I don't know why it's not widescreen in the trailer. I guess it's just 4:3. It looks really nice though.

Sadly, it doesn't have anything to do with this girl.

Online?

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Lack of online mode is probably gonna kill appeal. Looks alright though. SNK-ish.

Edit: it does say it's by some KoF team members.

Edit: was that a Zangief special rip off?

First thing to come to mind: Ace Attorney Investigations. I suppose I'm not alone in that...

Second thing to come to mind: the muscles in those sprites are really reminding me of Street Fighter III.

I was really hoping this was a foreign DDL release of the Japanese PC version.

Wonder if Nicalis learned how to get games past Nintendo's certification process.

Well, and here I was thinking that Pixel would never work on a single game other than Cave Story.

This looks surprisingly interesting. Don't mess it up Nicalis!

Yeah, cool game I've been playing for 2 years is getting ported.

But, it's being ported to 3DS.

WTF??!?!?!

Hugs PC version. Very tightly.

This is Nicalis so there's a huge possibility this doesn't even come out.

Wonders what the hell happened to the Vanguard Princess port?

Naah, fuck it. I'll play Dong Dong Never Die.

Hopefully it'll be on EU eShop @3@
...tho I don't know if I can do FG motions on a 3DS pad very well...

Is this really a thing that is happening? A 2D fighter for the 3DS eShop? So, so bought. Day one.
