Final Fantasy VI is being "remade" for iOS and Android; Square interested in FF7 iOS

"It is basically like a remake of the original VI," Tokita said as he proudly revealed his surprise at the end of a presentation about the recent smartphone release of FFV and the upcoming mobile release of FFIV: The After Years. "But there have been some enhancements."

"The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don't have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is."

The graphics, he said, will be refined for cellphones. They'll still be 2D but sharpened, a la the recent mobile release of V.

The next release in the Legacy series will be a mobile port of Final Fantasy: The After Years, which was originally released on phones in Japan and as a downloadable game for the Wii in the U.S. The mobile release is a 3D remake of the original release.

The Legacy series won't necessarily end with VI, Tokita said, when we asked him if it could include VII, VIII, IX, X and beyond. "We are aware that we have tons of VII fans," he noted. "We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."

So at what point does Square Enix officially get classified as a mobile developer? Does their small console output stop them from getting that label? Or would it be right to label them as that regardless of their low home console and game portable output?

This really is the road they're going down and it is not at all appealing to me. Something about Final Fantasy 6 just makes this more real to me when it really should have been already. After Bravely Default releases in North America I'm finally washing my hands clean of them. There was a point when I was young where gaming = SquareSoft/Enix. I was a Final Fantasy fanboy. RPGs were all I played and Square games were always at the top. Now I can't bare to even read up on Square Enix and almost always come away disappointed when I do.

Awful. Absolutely awful. I am not giving them any more money for their awful remakes. I'm sure they'll be fine but a smart phone is not a gaming system.

Oh God. Please. Don't treat it as badly as FFV. Please. PLEASE. Don't do this to your poor fans.

Take a look at All the Bravest, SE. Do it. That game? Looked wonderfully on smartphones. It wasn't a good "game", but it nailed the 16bit charm. Capture that look.

Don't, I repeat, don't repeat FFV. My eyes still hurt from that. Pleasefortheloveofgod.
