Mercury Steam: New game (PS4/XB/PC) completely different to Castlevania, not on Wii U

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer Mercury Steam is working on a new project for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC that is "completely different" from the fantasy series it has been known for during recent years.

Producer Dave Cox made the announcement during a recent roundtable interview session for Lords of Shadow 2 attended by GameSpot. He also confirmed that this project will skip the Wii U, but did not explain why.

Though Cox wouldn't go into more detail about this next game, he teased in 2012 that Mercury Steam has a couple of "really cool ideas" in the works, adding that "it's no secret that I'm a big fan of Contra and I'd like to do something in that universe."

Also in the interview, Cox explained that Mercury Steam had a number of ideas that never made it into Lords of Shadow 2. These ideas, including unspecified combat mechanics, may come to fruition in the developer's new game, Cox said.

What reason could that possibly be?

I think we should just assume every third party game is skipping Wii U unless otherwise noted.

Shockingly there is a 500+ post thread about the new Aliens game not being on Wii U.

I genuinely don't get why devs still get asked for explanations as to why their games aren't releasing on Wii U.

Can interviewers and media types not just use a bit of common sense?

Will it be on the 3DS then?

After Mirror of Fate bomba I seriously doubt it.

I find this sentiment so hilarious, like talking about the Wii U is becoming some sort of taboo.

"Darling, it's impolite to ask Mr. Developer about the Wii U! Apologize!"

Uprising was hot garbage. Contra 4 was superb.

Mercury Steam have done good stuff, they just need to figure out that a game doesn't need a boring as hell, drawn out first several hours before that good stuff reveals itself.
Cautiously optimistic.

Good riddance, Mercury Steam can keep their bullshit far, far away from Castlevania. Shame they'll likely be shitting up Contra, next.

The less last gen stuff the better. Sucks having this extra console taking up space due to games I still want to play.

God forbid they would even try to port it to wiiu, they would have to try and achieve Nintendo quality levels (85+ meta critic) and then actually market the game. God forbid.

Will buy when the inevitable superior pc version comes out and it hits the bargain bin

Mercury Steam has awesome artists and a lot of passion. They made the first Castlevania game I enjoyed in years. Kudos to them for their success so far, and I'm def. anticipating their next project! LoS2 on preorder.

Meh doesn't bother me, I brought Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of fate and I didn't like it.

Won't be making the same mistake again.

It kinda has based on quality. Contra 4, Rebirth, and Hard Corps are all extremely good games. And HC was in 2011, so it wasn't that long ago.

By reading some posts one would guess that if your franchise doesn't have yearly releases it's dead then.
