Sniper Elite, also known as Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945, is a tactical shooter developed by Rebellion Developments and published by MC2 France in 2005.

In 2012, to coincide with the release of the remake Sniper Elite V2, it was re-issued through Steam by Mastertronic. A sequel titled Sniper Elite III is set to be released in 2014.

The main character of Sniper Elite is Karl Fairburne, an American OSS secret agent disguised as a German sniper. He is inserted into the Battle of Berlin in 1945, during the final days of World War II, with the critical objective of obtaining German nuclear technology before the Soviet Union.

The Wii version of the game was released by Reef Entertainment in North America in September 2010. It is compatible with the Wii Remote and Wii Zapper and contains a bonus new level. The game was also released in Europe later the same year.

Q) What resolution does this run at for Xbox One and PlayStation 4?

A) It runs at 1080p for both platforms.

Q) How about FPS? Is it 30 or 60?

A) Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions offer an option for V-SYNC, enabling this locks the game at 30FPS or you can disable for 60FPS but dips in certain areas or open spaces.


I contacted 505 Games who asked a producer working on the title at Rebellion which had this to say regarding the matter.

“The game is running at up to 60 FPS on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at 1080p, there will be moments when there are drops in frame rate but hopefully those will be few & far between.”

The game currently supports stereoscopic 3D on PS4 and PC (on AMD cards).

The Xbox One itself currently doesn’t support 3D output – Rebellion have asked Microsoft and it may be available at some point in the future, but sadly 3D support isn’t part of the current XDK.

I have about 35 bucks that expire in mid July (along with another 150 or so that doesn't) and need to spend on Xbox One, enjoyed Sniper Elite V2 so I'm curious to see how this one is and might pick it up.

Great OT.

I can't wait for this. V2 was probably my favorite game of that year, and this looks even better. I'm kind of getting MGSV vibes from it too, probably due to the setting and more open nature. Can't decide if I want to try to track down the Collectors Edition or not though.

Oh, I just saw the Gaf community killcams thing. I can see that being a ton of fun.

I just got a ridiculous idea for an ending and where they could go next with the series. Picture this;

All through the game, the player is stalked by an unidentified sniper. He is seen many times, but never can be taken down or even seen for more than a few seconds. The player approaches their final perch, the big bad of the game below. This man needs to be killed to end the war. He lines up his shot, holds his breath and... just out of the corner of his eye, Fairburn (the MC) catches a glimps of a lens flair. It's unknown sniper. He turns his head, hears the shot and the whistle of the bullet and BAM, cut to black. The words "One bullet can change history" fade in, and slowly out.

While the screen is still black, audio of one of Hitler's speeches begins to play. Slowly fading into scene, we see a mouth giving the speech. The camera slowly zooms out, revealing the speaker to be an elderly Hitler. Even further, and we can see that he is in a famous American location sometime between the early 70s and late 80s, with Nazi paraphanalia drapped all around. He slowly gives an evil grin as the words "One bullet can change history" fade in once again. Hard cut to black, logo, "Sniper Elite 4: The New Order
(Working title)
", boom, roll credits.

Or, you know, they could just do the Pacific theater.

Really looking forward to this. Would have been day one, but my PS4 is dead and I've sent it off to Sony to get fixed. Sadly I can't see it being back in a week. I'm tempted to switch to the PS3 version (especially as it's £15 cheaper) but I really want that 1080p,

for some weird reason my wife really wants to play a sniper game (but she hates games and is rubbish at all games)

So while the coop mode sounds interesting - with me helping her out - I'd really just want a sandbox mode where she can just wander around without fear of being shot at, and then snipe anyone she feels like :)


edit: I'm guessing the coop is online only, no split-screen option?

I asked rebellion and they said it's up to the publisher (505 games). And they are not answering my tweets....

It's already available on EU store though but I'd like to get it for 50$ and with a pre-order dlc(Hunt the grey wolf).

I believe so, yeah. The box shots show 2 players on XBL, none locally. I don't think V2 had splitscreen either, come to think of it.

This looks set to be a great multiplayer game, getting hyped for it. Anyone have input on whether a fan of Socom online sniper battles would like this series? Thanks.

Yes this is definitely something that Socom fans would enjoy. I remember alternating between Socom 2 and the original Sniper Elite with friends back in the day. Loved the slower pace of V2, made a nice change to the craziness of CoD or Battlefield.

Full campaign co-op and V2 being sort of janky fun means I'll be keeping an eye on this. If it reviews well/GAF impressions are good I'll probably pick it up on launch day.

Nice, finally some more games for the new consoles that feature 3D. Last gen just wasn't powerful enough to do 3D imo, yet this gen seems to completely abandon the option in most games.

I was going to download it through PSN the day the game dropped, but it seems there is no digital verison of the game, so I'll be getting it via Amazon. I look forward to it.

edit: I'm actually watching "eurogamer's let's play" right now and I might just wait for a small price drop before getting this one. It's still up in the air.
