I knew that was the goal, I just never thought it would be before THEY'VE EVER SHIPPED A RETAIL PRODUCT.

Fuuuuckkkkkkkkkk
Brendan fucking Iribe

I'm curious about this particular reaction -- what in particular is surreal about it?

(I work at FB.)
Well, you work for the antichrist and John Carmack is a pretty awesome guy. And now he works for the antichrist too. It's pretty surreal alright.

Okay, I'll admit, the first reaction in my head was "Okay someone needs to die. now", like many others also thought if I'm reading this thread right.

But then... I... I mean, it's good for the tech, I guess :/
This will definitely help with the whole making VR mainstream part of everything, and if Zuck spent $2B on it, I fucking doubt he'll go "Okay, now what is this? 75 hz? 1080p? all these sensors? Nah, scrap that, reduce cost."

But I am worried, for sure. Deep down I fear that they'll fuck shit up.
Let's hope they basically just think it's cool and just want to finance it.

Oculus VR sets will now come with a camera, biometric sensors, and embedded software to track all kinds of things, anonymously, about their customers. Woot!

Not going full blown paranoia yet, however it's always smart to expect the worst of anything but to hope for the best.

Gahahahaha sorry I am laughing so hard on the train right now. So glad I didn't pull the trigger on that Dev kit 2. This is so nuts.

This is exciting. I don't see this changing much, but I'm not surprised by the insane reactions.
Even a quick skimming of the PR would inform you that they'll continue to operate independently within the company, if anything accelerated by facebook.

What's the problem?

Kneejerk reactions for the most part is my bet- we'll have a better idea in 24 hours I'd guess.

Wai... wha... why... how...

This is... uh...

Let me think about this. I'll enjoy the Thread of the Year in the meantime.

Damn, 13 pages of thread in 10 minutes.

Out of all the companies that could have purchased Oculus VR, why Facebook? Ugh. :(

You guys are weird. If virtual reality is really as good as we can imagine it, do you really think we should waste that technology on just GAMES?

At first glance, it might not seem obvious why Oculus is partnering with Facebook, a company focused on connecting people, investing in internet access for the world and pushing an open computing platform. But when you consider $2 BILLION DOLLARS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
.
