Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy.
If you have any questions about how this impacts your favorite title please contact the game’s publisher for more information.
Thanks for a great ride!

It's going to be a bad day.

Shut me down if old.

borderlands doesnt use gamespy anymore went steam works

uhhhh no.

lol what?

GGPO breh

Oh, I guess only the shitty upload to Youtube feature is affected?

Edit: Looks like Matchmaking is also affected

Meet Your Match

SFIII also makes use of multiplayer matchmaking services to bring players of all skill-levels together to duke it out online in a variety of styles. Traditional matchmaking lobbies and fights are available, but players can also try out Ranked Matches to compete on leaderboards and Tournament Matches to battle against other players to be the best of the best. A series of player-controlled options also lets you determine the criteria for your matches, giving you the choice to allow or forbid certain characters, or to disable specific gameplay mechanics like air-parries.

This kind of multiplayer matchmaking is one of GameSpy Technology’s core services, refined by years of incorporation in hundreds of games. Your players can partake of user-friendly multiplayer features like:

Online and local matchmaking that brings players together automatically or filtered by specific, user-defined criteria.
Matchmaking for both dedicated servers and peer-to-peer games.
Lobbies for chatting and setting up match rules.
In-game buddy functionality and messaging.
Street Fighter III: Third Strike remains the cream-of-the-crop of precise, challenging arcade-style fighters, even though competitors have spent a decade aiming to dethrone it. GameSpy Technology is proud to have worked with Iron Galaxy to make SFIII another standout title in the franchise, and we wish it another decade of dominance.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Then please read my post again, specifically the "a I understand it" part.

If you have something to add to the contrary then post it instead of a pointless contrarian drive by shitpost that adds nothing to the discussion.

I just posted it on the saints row forums, devs browse it and usually reply so hope they will do something. I love Saints Row 2, one of my fav games ever, would really suck if co-op broke.

Glad we won't have to deal with it in the future, but this is going to render several of my games unplayable. I wish all PC games still had a direct IP option as a fallback to deal with situations like this.

RIP Halo CE :(
Yup. It's Gamespy.
Oh god damnit I think it does :(

I still frequently play it too. :(

At least I can still play LAN.

some good old RTS games going down with this, notably Dawn of War 1 (edit: looks like this one has been dead already). I'm not sure, I think C&C Generals too. pre Empire total war games as well.

Mechwarior living legends dies with this server death.

Probably one of the more ambitious mods ever made... and it is killed and forgotten like that...

Ok, time to start the petition for DICE to create/allow us to create a master server for the BF series. If PR dies cause of this... fuck. Though they are quite resourceful.

That doesn't really mean anything though. A steamworks title doesn't have to use valve's server framework.

they did a huge patch that switched it all over if i remmeber right

Digital Future, everyone. Embrace it.

Yep, this is just a glance into the future, this will happen to every game you love today. The only way to save them is with Server Emulators or fake Online play via LAN for games that support that.

Since most modern games wont ever release their Server software and most dont support System-Link/LAN, we are all fucked.

Lol it looks like it does in fact connect to gamespy servers in some way. "Did not know what the fuck I was talking about" indeed...

Irony is a sweet friend indeed :)

I know they switched over the DRM side but again, that doesn't necessarily imply they did the same for networking. A steamworks game can still be steamworks and not use valve servers.
