Game Informer: Call of Duty: Blacksmith (Sledgehammer, Trailer May 4, first screen)

I won't get excited till I see it in action. If it is not 60 fps smooth, consider it dead to me. Ghosts was such a let down on ps4.

I don't think it will be current gen only. If not even Destiny is COD isn't going to be either.

Destiny started development in 2007, though. Bungie likely built the engine around the 360/PS3 hardware.

Development for this version of COD started, what, in mid 2011? I imagine they had a solid idea of the specs in the next gen consoles by then, and probably had dev kits by 2012.

The COD games always look weird as shit to me. Their lighting model is odd but I can't tell you why exactly.

Also, sweet Dead Space looking helmet.

Looks good. I skipped the last few Call of Dutys, but with rumours saying that the next Call of Duty has a "next-gen first, last-gen later"-approach... exciting rumours about its setting and a first good impression of its first official screenshot - you've got me interested, Activison.

This is current gen only correct? I like what I see.

We're not sure yet. As someone who isn't a COD fan, I would actually be ecstatic if it WERE current gen only, as that would translate directly to technological progress.

I just doubt that Activision is going to ignore 80+ million potential consumers, though.

As far as I know, this has not been posted before, so here it is:

The look of that character makes me think that Drift0r's info was accurate as well

Someone sent him a bunch of files (video and images) of a game they claimed was CoD 2014. The futuristic tech look of that character is something that he talked about seeing.

I'm still surprised that some random tweets about Destination Playstation turned out to be real.

Graphics looks amazing, too good for 60 FPS on consoles... Do you think that maybe they dropped single player campaign to 30 FPS?
Either that or it's taken from PC version imo.

Yep, looks like driftor got real information for the second year in a row.

Where are people getting this "current gen only" from?

That article about WW1 was fake.

Activisions money is COD and they love putting games out on many platforms as possible. No way will COD be current gen only for a few more years.

I'm right there with you on that. The framerate had better be a solid 60fps, at 1080p on PS4.

I want this as well, although I have less hope for the resolution given the history of the CoD series and res. This screen does show some promise for the engine though.

Well, at least they bothered to actually make the graphics impressive this time around, so that's one thing that makes it stand out from the other CoD games.

I'm curious what Sledgehammer will do with the series though other than just nice visuals. Since each studio gives CoD its own flavour this years release should be way more interesting than something like Ghosts.

I can't remember the last time they didn't reveal a CoD game through a long teased reveal trailer/ad campaign.

This seems a departure for them.

Well, there are two notes on that:

1.) Their sales have been tanking for a while so I imagine they want to get the new content in front of a lot of people.

2.) I'm not convinced that there isn't actually a TV ad campaign at the same time given it's Sunday.

Like I said in the thread earlier, I think it's just there attempt to try to win back over the media and gamers. Ghosts took a beating and there have been a lot of rumors and comments from Activision that this game is different. That's not to say that it won't look and play similarly to CoD, but it seems like they're trying to do some things to win people back over. The fact that lots of people are impressed by the screenshot is just a first step for them. When is the last time people really praised CoD for its visuals?

Allways the same. Dosent look very good. Not interested. I bet Battlefield will do the same thing again aswell. So boring.

I knew sales were dropping year on year, but I always assumed they were relatively stable (even with the drops) and weren't tanking.

And yeah, I just noticed the other thread. Seems they are really aiming for full market saturation with this CoD. possible TV ad campaign, magazine blow out and there will probably be a few site previews over the course of the month as well.

That was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

I loathe the mentality that African American video game characters always resemble someone famous (ex: black males with dreadlocks = early Busta Rhymes, etc.), but when I saw this picture, I thought Activision was announcing that Idris Elba was headlining, and did the motion capture on, the next CoD. LOL!

If it's not Idris the resemblance is uncanny.

Looks good, I'm interested now.

I never had a problem with COD's gameplay, I just hated how the graphics always looked so... bread and butter. If you get what I mean? The series never tried to impress graphical wise, which is what I always wanted it to do. The space level in Ghosts was pretty good, but that's the only one I can think of that impressed me. I know the series can do way better, they just don't try. Seems like this might be the one, hopefully.
