What's funny is that there's actually a story to report here about this story's...uhhhhh...story.

If someone did the legwork they could probably write something pretty compelling on how a site the size of IGN--that apparently has a branch in Russia--can be so careless during the industry's biggest week of the year.

So why did IGN post this news as a sure thing. I know IGN does iffy stuff sometimes, but I really don't see them posting this if they weren't sure of it. So fucking strange.

Oh well this whole TLG dev cycle has been one big mindfuck. Why not add some more insanity to the mix!

I know that's always been their stance. I'm only saying that reiterating this now, a day before E3, feels like a bit of an admission that the game won't be showing up. An E3 announcement alone would be making headlines all over the internet and people would forget all about the IGN article.

It probably won't be at E3 since it appears any work on the PS4 version would had likely started in 2013. Even if it was at E3 they would probably want to put a stop to a large site like IGN reporting it as official before other big sites start reposting the IGN article.

How do you measure the likelihood of them starting work in 2013?

Actually work on the PS4 version started in spring 2011.

While I'm here on GAF, Talladega Nights is on in the background and its at the part where Ricky Bobby is in hospital where he thinks he is paralysed, when he is really not. And he is being so stubborn about it, he stabs himself in the leg to prove a point, and then starts screaming. Fuck I laughed at the irony.

Cos this is IGN EXACTLY. They are being so stubborn, they keep stabbing themselves over and over.

IGN, pull the fucking article and replace it with another that says "Scott Rhode confirms that TLG has not been cancelled".

ps. Someone should make a gif of that scene I mentioned above, it would be hilarious.

Still newish to GIF making....

From the Eurogamer article I posted earlier where Shu started in August 2012 that they had to re-do some work on the game due technical issues and that it was still a PS3 title. It is only an assumption but unless he was lying I assume they still has technical issues after re-doing the work and that is when it was switched to a PS4 title.

The source was Boyes himself to bait IGN to publish a bullshit report as official and the final kick to IGN teeth will be TLG trailer at the end of Sony E3 2014.

The fact that this developer has yet to break a million sales from it's games, the reaction and hype for the last guardian is astounding to say the least. A true testament to the influence it had in his industry.

Shadow of the Colossus sold well over that. And ICO did as well thanks to the second printing in 2006 for European and Australian regions. That's not counting the HD editions for PS3.

sales figures =/= quality of the game..

this should be known really.

Ign was in a win win situation here. Either sony confirms it's not cancelled or when/if it gets cancelled they get to say told you so and look like they had the inside scoop.

For IGN is not a win win situation. You could say that this might force Sony's hand to say something official at E3, which is good for us, but if TLG is at E3 their credibility will be hurt a lot, especially after their insider scoop about Neil Druckmann forcing Amy Henning out of ND.
My take on the situation is that IGN is simply running the same story that broke yesterday on that russian website, thing could blow in their face though.

Man, looking at all of you saying "we already knew this" and shit before Rhode saved the day. Where's your faith, people!

I firmly believe we will see this game at the Sony presser. Now as a PS4 title, of course.

What a thread, made my day.

The meltdowns tomorrow will be insane.

I hope the servers hold.

Well at least now we're sure the game isn't canceled.

The fact that Sony confirmed its not dead and still in development means no TLG re-reveal this year.
If the re-reveal was planned for this E3, Sony would have stayed quiet just like they did last year with the DRM fiasco.

Sony didn't stay quiet about DRM at all, people just like to remember it that way. Used games and offline play were both confirmed in February.

I think they reacted to it, because IGN used the word "officially". They just had to react to it, when an outlet is at least impyling that the news came directly from Sony andI think it didn't matter if it was TLG or any other game.

If anyrhing the chances of seeing TLG have increased IMO.

What a bloody mess. I'm glad I have little investment in this game - I'm not sure I could take all of this.

My current assumption is that it was re-platformed for PS4 and they're just pulling the pieces back together... though apparently a lot of the pieces need to be redone and it's taking time.

I do wonder why Sony would even discredit the rumour if they're planning to re-introduce it tomorrow? Would it not have a greater impact when many in the gaming community would have had no expectation of the title even being on the roster? Is there some form if financial ramification at bay that forced them to take the bait?

And then radio silence until E3.

At the end of may: "I looked into this, and at this point we’re not providing any additional clarification beyond what we stated around the PS4 announcement. If anything changes, I’ll be sure to keep you posted."-Sony Rep to Kotaku
http://kotaku.com/sony-wont-answer-these-questions-about-ps4-drm-and-use-510477281

Shuhei Yoshida at the end of February: "At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

People kept picking apart these answers to force an agenda that simply wasn't true.
