Nintendo Downloads - June 2014

Why would they. 2 different versions. Games cost money and they want your money.

Crossbuy is nice but we are not entitled to it.

Anyways, do you guys think we will see earthbound go on sale ever. I've waited since it launched and nothing.

8 quid (or whatever it is in whatever country you are in) is an absolutely massive sale compared to the only other legal way to buy it lol

So, what's the deal with Boxing/Baseball in EU?

It's got a splash ad on the eShop, but doesn't actually show as downloadable.

Didn't the press release also say the 27th?

Is the VC discount over or something? I bought Castlevania 3 on the original Wii and it's on the VC there but for some reason I'm still getting the full price, no discount. :(

Sometimes there is glitch and the discount doesn't go up right away. You'll have to wait until they fix it cause it's a pain to get a refund when they do fix it. Doesn't usually take too long.

Thanks for the update. I guess I'll try again when I get home from work. ^^;

Shovel Knight so soon!

While the soundtrack in the Famicom version is more technologically advanced, whether it actually sounds better is up to the player. Despite having less instruments playing concurrently, I think the NES version of the soundtrack has a better selection of sounds in the music. But as I said, this is a preference that will change from person to person. Unlike Castlevania 2, which I doubt anyone will consider the Famicom soundtrack as good as the NES soundtrack, despite being better technologically.
I can see preferring the NES soundtrack. I don't but it's valid. VRC6 is still technically better than MMC5 though.

I could see someone preferring FDS Castlevania II to NES though also.

Wait, so since I already have the VC Castlevania 3 on the original Wii, can I get a discount to buy it again for 3DS? How do you do it?

Anyone know why Wii sports Club Baseball/Boxing hasn't hit the eshop yet?

Welp, the Chibi Robo demo has saved me 12 quid. I was going to get it before, too, but then played the demo. Awful little game. The 15fps 3D hurt my eyes and the camera just barely worked. For the circle one, I took a picture of a Jaffa Cake. It perfectly fit the circle and I was told it was 37% accurate. Yuk.

Anyone got anything to say about Block Drop U? I'm a sucker for puzzle games and budget titles and this fits both categories.

What are some must haves from the Wii U eShop? Keep hearing things about Shovel Knight but I really have no idea what it's about. I'll likely pick up Toki Tori 2 since it's on sale as well

It's an interesting little game. Only about 30 to 40 minutes long (for me). It's a physics-based puzzle game, and while there's strategy, it also feels a little bit dependent on luck or some random guessing. I liked it for a dollar, but I'm not sure I would have paid more than that.

Thanks for this, been wanting to get an idea of some games to look out for after I buy my mainline games.

I know for sure I'm getting Scram, Child of Light, Shovel Knight. VC wise I'm getting Earthbound, Castlevania 3 no idea what is all on there now adays. I heard GBA is on there now... any good ones?

Apparently Persona Q is an Etrian Odyssey style game. It has Shoji Meguro music so if the gameplay doesn't capture me, the story and music will.

This is good. This is very good. Lots of stuff. I'm saving this post.

If it's Dream Team I'm missing I'm not (personally) missing much. I'll give Paper Mario a looksie though. That's about all Mario gets from me though. I'll put some research into Soul Hackers. Retro 90's JRPG Port? I'll look at it. Maybe if I'm bored one day. EO, I'll get Persona Q. Rune Factory, too expensive right now. I had no idea Pokémon Mystery Dungeon was a rougelike, I'm interested. I completely forgot about Theatrythem, I was so hyped for that a couple of years ago and Gamestop says $20-ish used. Unfortunately, I never liked Monster Hunter and I never liked any MonHun clones. VN either. I don't appreciate VLR on Vita which leads me to believe VN are a dead end for me.

And now, for The Tear aka why I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the GBA. Anything with Mario in it, no. Star Fox, no. Kid Icarus, no. Donkey Kong, no. Animal Crossing, no. Luigis Mansion, no. Zelda, 2D only. I've never played a Phoenix Wright game so I'll just give this one a shot. The same with Professor Layton. If I like both I'll get the Wright x Layton cross-over.

But yeah, I'm not adverse to digital titles. I just won't be buying anything I can get from retail off the E-Shop. It's gonna be a goddamn hunt getting a lot of those physically though. I'll be calling Gamestops once a month. Hell, I might spend more on gas trying to get a lower used price than if I just ordered it new from Amazon or something.

If you want to try Pokemon Mystery dungeon you should get Explorers of Sky for the NDS. That game has way more Pokemon compared to Gates of Infinity for 3DS (492 vs 144), a great story (apparently much better than in Gates) and has no rip-off DLC. Exploring the random dungeons is also more tenser because you have to eat to replenish your stamina and Gates gets rid of this mechanic.

The NDS Phoenix Wright games, which should be played in order of release, are also much better than Dual Destinies which is easy to a fault. The last case is such a huge let down because of this.

I would also advise you against getting Fire Emblem and suggest you get Devil Survivor Overclocked instead (on sale on the eShop for only 15$ until July 7th). Awakening is just such an overrated game; story gets boring halfway through, annoying randomness and unpredictable situations, overpriced DLC. The only really good thing about the game are the characters so unless you are into dating sims, just skip it.
On the other hand, Overclocked has a great story (the modern setting is refreshing compared to most JRPGs), is long but doesn't overstay it's welcome and also has a NG+ worth playing (multiple different endings and story paths). The battle system is really nice and the impact of luck is minimal. The demon fusion system is also addicting.

I haven't dabbled much in NES VC thanks to my massive cartridge collection, but Castlevania III is one of those times where I'm thinking "this might be nice to have in my pocket."

Anyone try Brickblast yet? I'm guessing it's not on anyone's radar but I like Breakout clones. The description on the eShop says it only has like 15 levels.

Also, how is Color Zen? I've got $5 burning a hole in my pocket.

I personally disagree about Dual Destinies. I'm not sure how you thought it was "too easy", but I honestly loved the game and its story over all but the first game.

I also disagree about Awakening. I still love the game and is easily my most played game on my 3DS. I haven't played Devil Survivor Overclocked to make any judgment about that, but I would just check out both games (Awakening has a demo for example) and see what you like.

DS:O also has the horrible issue of being a lazy DS up port with the screens basically in reverse of what they should be.

FE:A meanwhile is one of the best 3DS games period.

It will probably never go on serious sale though, but DS:O has been this cheap before and will be this cheap again. They're both worth owning but FE:A is a much better game overall.

Wow, Wii Sports Club Baseball and Boxing are indeed $10 for BOTH sports. I was sure that was just poor wording in the EU press release.

Pretty much. Brutally dull demo. I tried to warn y'all!

Kung Fu Rabbit is an awesome platformer.

So I've only got like $40 to spend. You guys think I should put that towards Shovel Knight or Lego City?

SK, so you can get more games, too. You can always pick up LCU at retail cheap online on eBay, CAG or in the B/S/T thread.

I just came here to ask this. It's still not fixed and I was really looking forward to playing this on the game pad tonight. Sucks.

It really depends on what you're looking for, they'll be so different. I haven't tried Shovel Knight yet but I hear the play time is 6-8 hours for the main story. Lego City will be closer to 25-30 hours.

That seems to happen a lot with 3rd party stuff. Happens enough that they should know better by now. It's not like they're releasing tons of VC games, there's just one each week.

Sorry, no DS games unless I can get the digitally. My friends extra DS is shite and I'm not spending money on hardware.
Why should Phoenix Wright be played in order of release? Story reasons? Gameplay evolutions?
I'm dead set on Fire Emblem Awakening. I know I want it, and that makes me almost automatically enjoy it. Having to convince me on another game leads my opinion to solely rest on the quality of the game, I've been disappointed that way. Also, no digital games. Since I never intend on owning a 3DS, I want everything physically. Especially Nintendo's Account Systems being the way that they are. I see Devil Summoner Overclocked for $25 used in places. I'll think about picking it up in a few months or if it drops below $20. Trust me, I love buying digitally, but that's after I meet my boxed games quota (~8).

What's the Gameplay to Story/Cutscene ratio in SMT4? I'm loving Bravely Default but I can't watch Doctor Who or the World Cup at the same time and it makes it really difficult to slot in time for it. I'm only at Chapter 2 though so the pacing my straighten out sooner or later.
