Let's talk about unreleased 2014 games that need more love

I love the hype trains for the big hitters as much as the next guy but I'm also into rooting for the underdog as well.

So I want this to be a catch all thread for games that have yet to be released in 2014 that you think needs to be talked about more. Indie or big budget, console, pc or mobile.... it doesn't matter. Let this be your platform to carry the torch for the games you want more people to be aware of. Hopefully over the course of this thread you will find a game or five that you will want to add to your wishlist that you had no I idea existed or was slated for this year.

Personally, I've been out of the loop regarding video games for the past few months now due to some personal stuff so I've got a personal stake in finding out what/why I should be excited for what's coming over the next two quarters.

That said, there are a couple games that I've been intrigued about ever since I first heard of them earlier in the year:

VIDEOBALL

gameplay

A product of a dare to make a one button real time strategy game, which eventually turned into a minimalist sports game. It has local and online play and the gist of the game is that you and your team are little triangle ships that shoot other triangles at the ball to reach the goal at the other end of the map while your opponent does the same thing. You can hold down your shots to make the ball launch farther or you can shoot the other player to stun them for a few seconds. Also, if you hold your shot for a certain amount of time you can place square defense blocks as well. From everything I've seen this game screams depth and strategy. It has a "pure" quality only a few other games I've seen really capitalize on.

Galak-Z: The Dimensional

A roguelike space shooter in a robotech skin. What's not to love? I'm hoping this will do to space shooters what Spelunky did for platformers. If it does, this will be in rotation for a long time to come.

Captain Toad! It's a great mashup of many different genres and I can't really think of anything quite like it. The fact that it's from one of the best studios in the world doesn't hurt either. And of course the cuteness level is off the charts.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair - The first game was incredibly fun and combined some of the best elements from VLW, Phoenix Wright, and P4G. Coming out in September in NA/Europe.

Looks like a bigger and better successor to Test Drive Unlimited, I'm not sure what more anyone could want. So far from what I've seen of the game it looks amazing.

Stick It to the Man!
Even though it was released last year the PS4 version earlier this year was interesting and fun.
It needs more love!

Edit: Ups - unrealesed games. Doh!

Shadow of Mordor. It's generated some positive buzz thanks to its Nemesis system but I think some need to be convinced the game is more than that. This video with Troy Baker and the writer (of Red Dead Redemption pedigree) helps in talking about some of its narrative elements, but they should probably do more before release.

Guilty Gear Xrd.
More people need to see how they pulled off 3D models that are seemingly indistinguishable from animated sprites until the camera pans. Perhaps this is why it's not getting attention; people think it's hand-drawn. They also need to release some hi-res 60 fps videos.

I don't even particularly enjoy anime and I can appreciate the technical genius of this.

I haven't played a guilty gear game since the 1st one I think but I'd be willing to give this one a shot for sure.

Totally interested in Galak Z. But they haven't really talked about it after e3. Was hoping it would release soon before the Fall onslaught.

Also interested in Counterspy. At least that is coming out in mid August. Hoping its sort of like Shadowcomplex. Just can't tell though.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (sequel to one of the best games ever)
Helldivers (from the creators of Magicka so you know its going to be awesome)
Dragon Fin Soup (from the Grimm Brothers, I think its releasing this year... I hope.)
Risen 3: Titan Lords (There are a lot of hyped RPGs coming down the pipe so Risen got lost in the shuffle.)
Kingdom Under Fire II (*avatar quote* but I believe Kim said that this game wouldn't hit westward officially until early next year but the beta is later this year.)

I am so glad you posted this!! Galak-Z looks so amazingly fun to me, I had seen a promo for it months back and had forgotten the name. Soooooo looking forward to this.

I'm going to add Enemy Starfighter. With Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous hogging up all of the space 'sim' spotlight, it needs to be mentioned. I'm looking forward to ES more than the other two (and I kickstarted both ages ago). That art design is just fantastic to me.

Sacred 3 - Sacred 2 was overloaded with quests and such, but a fun game overall. I have hopes for the 3rd, even though I think it should be on PS4/X1 too.

These two get it.

Lords of the Fallen, releasing in the same day as AC Unity and Sunset Overdrive is a really bad idea.

I can't believe the lack of hype Lords of the Fallen is getting on Gaf. It looks like a next gen Souls game yet there seems to be almost no buzz.

VIDEOBALL seems like it's going to take forever, and probably end up on PC after the console because it's such a small team. Pretty excited but expecting it to occupy that small space where online multiplayer is just non existent and it is only enjoyed by those with couch gaming friends.

I certainly hope they start advertising this game because it deserves attention for the technical wizardry. They apparently are trying to make it more accessible for new players to jump in as a starting point. They just need to be careful about skimping on content and releasing a new version that requires a new full purchase too quickly. This is really where fighters alienate a lot of new players maybe more so than being too complicated. I'm a fighter fan and am leery of that with ArcSys/Aksys games myself.

None, they will get my love when they are released and I have played them.

TLoU remastered. No footage less than a week from release.

It's a remaster of an overrated PS3 game, that won 200 games of the years awards, which it didn't deserve.

It has plenty of love.

Yeah, this is my GOTY hype so far. Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, and Bayonetta 2 are the other games I am hyped about as well.

I am strangely looking forward to Styx Master of Shadows. A stealth game spinoff of Of Orcs and Men, developed by Cyanide. That should not get me grooving. But the footage looks fun, it has some cool gimmicks, and someone at Cyanide developed Aarklash Legacy, an overlooked game that I didn't think they had in them.

Holy shit. Just watched a gameplay vid from E3. This is amazing.

Evolve does not need love. It will be released, people will play it and be happy.

Games that probably need a lot more love:
  • Sacred 3. It could be fun, but then again it could suck real bad. We'll see.
  • Alien Isolation. Colonial Marines was like xenomorph acid as it dissolved the fans' hopes and dreams. Many people fear that the Aliens brand in gaming has been sullied forever. I expect Isolation to do well.
  • Lords of the Fallen. Cruelly mocked as a Dark Souls clone, most people dismiss it as somehow being inferior. It deserves the benefit of the doubt.

THIS JUST IN!

Naughty Dog has reportedly made a last-minute change to the The Last of Us: Remastered's cover art, in which they are removing the "OVER 200 GAME OF THE YEAR AWARDS" text. This decision was a unanimous one, after Naughty Dog employees read a bias-free and lightly opinionated post from NeoGAF user Mr-Joker, in which concrete evidence was presented, consequently exposing Naughty Dog for the losers they are. When asked about what brought about this change, Naughty Dog responded "We don't comment on rumors or speculation." Industry experts across the world expect Naughty Dog to return all two hundred awards to their respective members of the gaming press.

Sacred 2 was a lot of fun, but the developer went bell-up. This is a new studio so I'm going to wait and see how this one turns out. The trailers looked like they toned down the crazy (no playable dog men, or blue ooze everywhere).

This needs love

I'm super excited for this one. Don't have an Xbone though, so I'll be awaiting the PC release.
