Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

I read that only Xbox was mentioned as a platform at E3 (on polygon).

I'm surprised, if a deal was indeed in place then, that they didn't announce it as a megaton during their conference.

Will make for an interesting UC vs TR sales battle though.

I guess "Rise of the Tomb Raider" is exclusive to Xb1... but "Rise of the Tomb Raider GOTY edtion" probably won't be.

That's a huge bummer for the other console and PC owners. I hate exclusive games in general, everyone should be able to have access to great games.

If it's a time exclusive, I can see the reasoning to obtain the check money from MSFT.

If it's not then this is a huge FU to long time tome raider fans, and they can consider a sale lost on PC.

I really likes the last one, but moves like these make me not want to play it or ever buy an Xbox One. I say it whenever a game is money hatted, but I hate that more gamers can't play a game, it's stupid.

Even a timed exclusive on a game that shipped 6.5 million copies seems pretty insane from a business perspective, but hey it's not my money.

MSFT must have cut a giant check. SE wasn't happy w/ the sales if I remember correctly right? Hope it's just timed.

I own both consoles but this has annoyed me. I wish they could just use their money to make their own games like Sony does rather than removing games from people without Xbox Ones. Not including indies, obviously.

Utter bastards.

What a dumb decision. Do they think people who don't have a Xbox right now will buy one for this game? I certainly won't. Or do they think they earn sympathy with this move? It was announced as a multiplatform title. It is a sequel to multiplatform series. Fuck them.

Well ... I do.

Tomb Raider will move consoles. Way more than Titanfall or Sunset Overdrive.

It´s an established franchise which many people love.

I have to question why Microsoft would choose Tomb Raider as the game they wanted to capture as an exclusive title.

Is Tomb Raider really going to sell that many consoles for Microsoft? It's not like the Wii U where Nintendo has captured a number of titles to strengthen their exclusive library. So far this is the only game I can think of that Microsoft's worked to make exclusive.

Wow...like I def did not expect to see this news. Glad I'm not all that huge on Tomb Raider. Guaranteed it'll end up on the PC and PS4 at some point anyway. Still, seems like a really dumb idea alienating a large portion of the user based when you are a third party studio and publisher.

Weak first party catalog and flagging sales no problem! Open the wallet, yes I'm damn salty. Not even a PC version wtf, I bought the game twice. SE giving a giant fuck you to the fans.

Wonder how this deal went down. Its no secret the last game didnt do what Square wanted it to.

A similar situation to Dead Rising 3? IE: "Get a first party to fund it or the game is cancelled"?

Well, Ryse was an XBO exclusive as well.. and look what happened now. Let's just wait for the definitive edition that'll eventually come out for PC and PS4. Right now I wish I had never bought TR:DE for PS4 though.. fucking moneyhats.

Loving all the hate squenix is getting from the Soony troops...

If this were a PS4 exclusive the reaction would be ALOT different. Good for you Microsoft.

Yeah, it took five platforms and several Steam sales for TR13 to hit 7 million. I don't see this being a profitable venture for MS.

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about PS culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is on XBOX where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over on PS, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the PS public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Tomb Raider for XB1, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel Tomb Raider for XB1 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Obligatory

Just heard it's not a timed exclusive.

And to think 3.6 million copies sold on three platforms didn't meet expectations last year. The next one won't most likely reach even those figures.

Astonishingly, the publisher hoped to sell between 5 and 6 million copies of Tomb Raider in its first month, which would have placed it amongst some of the fastest-selling games ever. It managed 3.6 million, which by most standards is an extremely impressive launch.

Quite interesting to say the least. Tomb Raider(2013) was not the tomb rider game I wanted
(no tombs and all that)
and wanted to see if the sequel was improved. Guess I won't know unless I have a xbox. Hmm.

Disgusting from CD and S-E.

PR is PR. They don't really give a shit at all.

Yeah yeah business is business, however end of the day you're still screwing people over who have kept your business alive.

Wouldn't be surprised if this comes back and bites them in the ass big time.
