Tomb Raider 2013 is amazing. Cant wait for the sequel. Sorry Sony fans, you will miss a lot of incredible games staying just with Sony.

What about PC fans? What about people who bought a damn PS4 with hopes to play this game, now smashed into tiny insignificant pieces?

That sounds almost exactly the same as when people were defending the myriad of issues the X1 had. "It's only the internet" "No one will really care"

News spreads very fast nowadays thanks to social networks man.

The opposite of that is not every issue has a social media movement behind it.

On another note MS is so full of shit with this "exclusive".

Haha wow really? Really? It'll come out on the others. So worse case other platform holders will have to wait some more. Even then that's a pretty petty response.

I would hope people do not buy consoles because they are "company fans" but rather that it makes the most technical sense / has a better catalogue of games.

Directing your comment at people who own a sony console and conflating that with being "just with sony..."

eh... come on, we are better than this.

I would rather that Microsoft invest in first party development, but they are still recovering from the 360 generation where they took out their first parties and shot them in the head.

Nah, MS just want their first party to continually roll out shooters + forza while they buy other genres lacking from their library.

you dont know that. it was never announced for ps4/pc

it was unveiled at the ms conference and got no mention from sony, it wasnt even in their list of e3 games.

So are we just playing dumb now? I'll play along.

Hey guys, great exclusive title for Xbox One: The All in One Entertainment System. I mean, who would have thought that Square Enix were going to create a sequel to one of their most successful franchises that also received critical acclaim. Great to see that Microsoft was able to help them out as it's unlikely that a publisher like Square Enix was going to have the resources to develop for 3 systems simultaneously!

I have never actually avoided a company because of their bs even with the likes of Ubi, Activision, EA, etc. But I will probably never buy a CD ever now. That is some serious bullshit. I had zero interest in this game when it was announced and I thought the first Tomb Raider (2013) was boring but this is some bullshit to on some higher level.

God the PR speak around all this is infuriating -- and I work in the PR field. For the love of god, speak clearly to your customers. Spencer looks like such a fucking tool in these interviews.

Couldn't the same thing be said about just about any console?? What a rediculous thing to say, especially since everyone knows this was intended to be for multiplat.

Yeah Quantum Break, Halo 5, Crackdown 3, New Gears of War, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends, etc.

They have a lot of exclusives that I want to play.

Not half as much (probably literally) as the PS4 after the Gamescom announcements. Hell, take out all the stuff Sony announced today as exclusives and the PS4 would still have simply more coming and imo much more compelling upcoming software library.

So Tomb Raider is not nearly enough.

This seems like a strange game to choose to me. Why Tomb Raider? I mean it's a pretty big franchise, but it's not going to move consoles.
Only third party franchise willing to cut a deal? Worried about Uncharted with TLOU sailing past 7 million and rising again on PS4? Who knows?

Based on sales splits of TR2013 posted and the little effect TitanFall had on console sales (and I think TF was a more Limey candidate to shift consoles than TR) it's hard to see this being a big winner for SE or MS.

But again who knows?

Only if you consider indie games on par with AAA games. Some people do but I don't think the majority of gamers do.

Not sure.

The only reason I'm miffed about this is that we won't get the "definitive" version of the game on the Xbox One since it's obviously less powerful than the PS4.

I'm still getting it regardless, though.

Its an entiretly rational bussines decision. They want the game to have as much exposure as posible and the MS hype machine will do the same they did with Ryse, Titanfall and Sunset Overdrive. Even more, SE will have a direct competitor to Uncharted in the competitor console with full MS marketing support, even more, the Uncharted marketing will help them to give even more exposure to the game. At the same time, they avoid competing with Uncharted during holiday 2015. The PS4 users won't dissaperar, they most likely will be waiting for the game to be released on the console.

Or they'll just buy Uncharted 4 and play that instead? The problem is they're taking PS4 users for granted, there will be other games out by the time the delayed port job comes out. We're not talking about a launch title here, they're not releasing the game now while the gap is still close, by holiday 2015 they might be betting on the platform that is in a deep hole.

Wouldn't releasing the game during the peak holiday season on a platform with twice the userbase give you more exposure? SE is free to take the money upfront but it's kind of hard to argue that this is a particularly brilliant decision on their part.

EA Madden strategy? i remember sony being offered the same program, and are you equally made at sony with there exclusive deals with 3rd party developers. The hate and assumptions are crazy

I wasn't giving either hate or assumptions. We don't know the behind-the-scenes details yet, I was merely speculating on two plausible scenarios. Scenario #1: MS saved the game, in which case they should be praised IMO. Scenario #2: MS paid off SE to make a multiplat game exclusive, in which case they should be boycotted IMO. We don't know enough to state if it's Scenario 1, 2, or something else entirely. This is where I would expect game journalists to step in and give us more information.

As for the EA Madden strategy, I was referring to EA's exclusive deal for the NFL license, not the EA Access program for XB1. That's the reason that consumers have been denied the superior NFL 2K series and a good example of a content supplier suppressing better content from a competitor instead of improving their own content.

Seems like such a half-assed, half-hearted PR statement.

Almost as bad as Microsoft telling those that wanted a always-on-less system to buy a XBox 360.

Well shit... They had a good run.

What's the incentive for publishers making exclusives anyway?

No pc version means I can't play it, timed exclusive means I might pick it up later.

Title involved asside, moneyhatting is not what Microsoft needs to turn things around. Feels like a poorly thought out defensive move. And passing up on PC? I hope SE got a pretty penny.

This is one of the most confusing game announcements I've ever seen. My initial thought was that it will be timed exclusive, but that's what I thought about Titanfall too. Really hope it's timed exclusive.

..but cry so much I wish I had some
I keep looking everywhere, and I do not see any mention of this game ever being mentioned on other platforms. Isn't it weird that a Tomb Raider game, which apparently people say is associated and should remain on Playstation, was first shown at a Microsoft conference, with no mention whatsoever of a Playstation or PC version, no one from Square Enix, their twitter, websites, or any press releases ever mentioned any platform for the game (except for Xbox one at the end of the trailer), and all of a sudden we get this bombshell at Gamescom. Unless someone can prove to me it was in development for something else than Xbox One, we can't just assume. Even games website who posted it for PS4 probably just assumed it would come to all platforms as there is no official mention of it anywhere.

My guess is game was still early at the time (like running on a PC, just like every other game this gen due to architecture), SE having a version not too far along in development, they shopped it around a bit, MS and SE hadn't finalized the deal yet by E3 so everyone kept shut until a later date in case the deal wouldn't go through, not making any mentions of console exclusivity, and at the same time not talking about other platforms. Few months later deal is a go and they make it official at Gamescom. Not very hard to believe IMO.

Also, considering the game broke even for SE, it's not impossible to think they might have seen it as a risky move financially to make a sequel and needed outside help, especially considering how bad they have been doing in recent years. In that case nothing wrong with MS picking it up, just like they did with Titanfall for example.

Also, funny how they made it very clear at the time what platforms Temple of Osiris was coming to!

this seems nothing more then salty PS4 owners.

All this about MS and square taking the game way from players is bullshit.

using that logic is no different then saying sony and ninja theory are taking away hellblade from players. It does not matter if its a new I.P, sony are still paying for exclusivity and therefore taking the game away from X1 players - according to the same logic

The bottom line is this is a good thing for MS and sqaure and a bad thing for sony.

Lucky there's more than enough content to appease those 'Sony fans' even without Tomb Raider on their purchase list. :)

Not surprising you of all people would say that.

Is Hellblade a timed exclusive? Is hellblade a new unproven IP? Was Hellblade previously a multiplatform franchise? What logic are you equating here exactly?

The bottom line is this is a good thing for MS and sqaure and a bad thing for sony.
Good thing for SE? Sure, if cutting out 66% of the potential userbase for short term profit is a 'good' thing.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Except that for many it does. Also we know Hellblade is only a timed exclusive, same with No Man's Land.

I might just try Far Cry 4 instead then. TR didn't have any tombs in it anyway, and Far Cry looks to have some nice exploration

Anyone who's only an owner of one console is going to miss out on a ton of stuff.

Except for the fact that Sony was clear that its only timed exclusive. That and, for all we know Hellblade could be a pub fund game.
Also, according to BruceLeeRoy, Sony helped Hello Games when they got flooded out which would explain why NMS is timed exclusive on PS4,

We don't know anything about either games contract.

Why does everything have to be some console war bullshit with a bunch of mudslinging?

Thread is going to be a graveyard by tomorrow, and the site will be better for it.

Microsoft being vague about this is what really turns me of from the game. Sony had no issue saying their games were timed exclusives.

Is it possible that the game had some development/financial issues and they reached out to the platform holders and it was MS that decided to fund the game development? If I was a business and I invested my money into the development of a game I would want it exclusive for my system.

Again, that is speculation since none of us really knows what the details of this deal are. We know that with Titanfall that MS did fund the development for the most part, who is to say this is not happening with Tomb Raider?

I know there is a lot of butt hurt going on in this thread and I can understand it to a certain extent, but unless we know what the details are, isn't most of the hate just bullshit? If a company dumps money into the development of a game, isn't it right that they ask for it to be exclusive? I doubt that any of you would pay for a game to be developed, but then say "yeah we paid to have this game made, but yeah go ahead and put it on my competitors system".

Just my 2 cents on the matter.
