Smash Bros is a big celebration of Nintendo's history not Japanese game companies. Megaman, Sonic and Pacman are a big part of Nintendo's history. Snake isn't. Also you'd be missing other videogame titans like Square Enix and Hudson( in addition to other big brands like Resident Evil) if this was a big and historical celebration of Japanese videogame companies.

My argument there is Snake was already in Smash. That fact alone makes him Historical now.
He was the first Third Party character in smash as well. So the way I see it they celebrated him once why not again?

My entire argument everytime it's brought up goes right back to that. It would be far different if I was asking for Snake and that had never happened.
Plus Pac-man isn't all that historical to nintendo. But he gets the pass because he's a icon.

If I were still a kid and knew what Smash 4 was gonna be like, I'd lose my mind. It is kinda sad Konami isn't involved in this one though. They've got plenty of characters that would fit into Smash. Belmont and Bomberman would also be good choices.

Still his inclusion is more related to the circumstances than his history much like snake.
Kojima was friends with Sakurai so he got him in. Namco is helping with smash and miyamoto's favorite character is pac-man.
At the end of the day I want to say History while a important part of smash.
Isn't the be all end all some claim it is for character inclusions. I also don't feel that it needs to be. The requirements we have seen for characters making it in seem fine to me.

EDIT: I'm not mad about any third party inclusion. I just don't like it when it seems like people see Snakes inclusion as a waste.

Microsoft also owns Gears outright now, so they'd probably put at least Marcus Fenix in a Microsoft Smash.

Also need a Fable rep. Either generic player character with Dog or a re-occuring character like Theresa or Reaver.

Halo would get more than one rep. Cortana, Arbiter, Didact or the new guy from the Halo 5 cover. At least two of them in addition to Chief.

And since Microsoft picked up a lot of Sega fans, throw in a Forza car that fights on its back tires.

Crossing fingers it can be adapted somehow; as is, the current cover is my least liked in the series...Not downright bad, but it feels barebones, and I don't like how the only newcomers present are Wii Fit Trainer and Villager; the 3DS version feels much better organized. Plus, even if I'll agree that this is Nintendo's party first and foremost, I actually like them giving attention to the third parties here. Pac-Man, Mega Man and Sonic gracing the cover can only make it more appealing.
