Nothing helps teach tolerance like practicing intolerance.

Man, I am a pretty hardcore critic of Sarkeesian, but this is ludicrous. And the worst part is that it only validates all the dumb stuff Sarkeesian says. I can't take it.
Again I do not believe the place can be considered "private" when it comes to these laws considering how it is funded.
Plus you will step on a whole other hornets nest if you try to ban guns for even 2-3 hours in a place that allows open carry. Not only would you have the #GG crazies but you will have the gun crazies teaming up with them.
Wow. Um....I've been gaming for a long time and Gamergate is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever witnessed in relation to video games. Not only the "MRA" but the "SJW"as well. Both sides, from Anita stankonia who makes every issue appear from nothing to the ones protesting her shit. Since when did one person's reaction to something especially one as unimportant as hers cause such an outrage. Do people become outraged with female authors from books like Twilight & 50 shades of grey for basically objectifying men? Fuck this, I've never been so disappointed in the gaming community

See now there is an anti-GG: #StopGamerGate2014
It may be folly, but there is a banner now for those that really dislike GamerGate.

You're allowed to carry concealed weapons on that campus?! My campus doesn't allow that even with a permit.

Oh the good ol tolerance paradox again. I'm sure your phil101 professor is going to love your papers.

How hard is it for police to trace back the threats?
Different states different laws, also depends on what kind of institution you are in.
I can't see how this could be impinging on the First Amendment.

Yeah, conference cancelled by a treat! I huge victory against censorship!
...oh wait.
What are you even talking about? It validates that videogames have a problem with women representation? Since you're a "hardcore critic", I guess you at least know what the videos are about... right?
I imagine it goes along a line of reasoning such as this:
First Amendment guarantees no impingement on free speech.
Second Amendment guarantees a right to carry weapons.
When the guarantee of weapons creates a culture of fear such that those with "Controversial" but otherwise non-harmful opinions are afraid to speak out given the high probability someone who hates them will also be armed with deadly weapons.
It's obviously not cut and dry but I think it would definitely be an interesting discussion.
Go on.Video games represent exactly what they need to.
I know that LW is the codename for the women that Gamergate targets (seriously, how can you not realize that you're a lunatic at that point) but what do the letters actually stand for?
...no, it validates the fact that GG is not, nor has ever been, about ethics in gaming and is just a unified harassment campaign.

I'm not American, so I'm not as well versed in your constitution. But I though the first amendment was protection of free speech from the state? A private citizen treating to kill you if you speak isn't a first amendment issue, it's just a criminal issue.

Right. And "no impingement on free speech" is far, far too broad of a statement when it comes to the 1st Amendment.
Edit: I guess, source - I'm awaiting bar exam results. SO DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT JUST YET LOL!!!
Oh goddamnit, Utah.
How the hell are both sides are stupid as each other.
On the one side, you've got an anonymous lunatic threatening to shoot up a bunch of innocent people; an act of terrorism.
On the other side you've got someone trying to give a talk.
And what issue did she make appear from nothing? She was threatened with being shot, and then informed she would be in a room full of people that were able to conceal weapons.
I can't understand how false equivalency people make these posts, look at them, and think to themselves, "yep, these two things are in equal disrepute".
Of course it's the psycho's fault, but the state definitely has a responsibility in protecting citizens and making them feel safe to speak freely. In this case, it failed spectacularly.Hey buddy its not Utah's* fault. Its the psychopath who is willing to harm innocents fault.

I don't know if I would connect GG to death threats at a university in a 1 to 1 way.

Maybe it's because I haven't drink coffee all day and english isn't my first language, but what the hell does that even mean?
Saying it's about ethical journalism is silly. Saying it's a unified harassment campaign is silly.
It means that the industry has built in mechanisms to accurately reflect the needs and wants of the consumer.
I live a couple miles from USU (I attended myself) and yeah, the venue doesn't have any metal detectors and it's a very open campus, not that it would matter because of the concealed weapons permits. The threat spooked me enough to make a few phone calls to students or parents with students I know that attend.
