Codemasters has announced a new table top racing game called Toybox Turbos, coming to Steam on November 12th at £11.99 and will be heading to Xbox 360 and PS3 shortly afterwards.

Even though it's titled Toybox Turbos, it definitely channels the spirit of micro machines – Codemasters racing series featuring toy cars which first came out in 1991.

i loved micro machines when i was kid
i gonna wait for this
but seriously,,,no X1 and PS4 ?

Always a bit skeptical when the 'spiritual successor' tag is thrown around, but this genuinely does look like an updated Micro Machines game. Will buy, although it looks like it would be a great fit on Vita as well.

How much longer do I have to keep setting up my old consoles? Getting stupid at this point.

Regardless, this does look very nice!

I really loved Micro Machines videogames back in the day, I will definitely buy this one when it comes out on Steam.

I had so much fun playing Micro Machines on the Mega Drive, and then Micro Machines V3 for the PS1... What a great time. Micro Maniacs was also good. Will keep a close eye on this one.

Only on last gen? Are they sending the game out to die?

Hyperbole much? Just because you and I (and make no mistake, I hope we can all quit last gen or cross-gen development) won't buy any last gen games anymore does not mean that no one does- there are still 100M+ of those consoles out there, compared to less than 20M for current gen.

Especially for a smaller game like this that probably won't need huge sales numbers to be a success.

Notice how Codemasters have done this for several games; it's almost as if the game is actually selling on those platforms. Legit shook

Indeed. I have to wonder what the software attach rate is for the older consoles vs the new ones?

Codemasters hates next gen huh?

Really don't understand why they won't just get this out on the ps4/bone if they are already doing a PC version?

This looks really great. I've always been waiting for a worthy Micro Machines successor and this certainly looks like it could be one. Hope they make it have online multiplayer (they didn't really specify mp in that trailer).

I don't remember PS2 getting quite so much love when the PS3 was out (but I am ready to admit that that might be nostalgia goggles in effect).

Hopefully it's at least cross-gen and this initial reveal just doesn't mention PS4 and XB1.

They haven't released anything for the new hardware. At all. Fans are... displeased overall.

Oh Codemasters, you're completely gone to hell this year. What on earth happened? Half-assed (F1) or "what huh?" (Grid Autosport) games that have barely sold and not moving to the new consoles. Most racing fans would probably excuse one of the two but not both. As a bonus insult they've suggested they might release F1 2015 "early" and add on tracks throughout the season, which is code for "hey, put up $60 and trust us that we'll eventually finish the game you already paid for".

Project Cars looks to fill that void that Codemasters would have otherwise filled in the past, at least.

No Track Editor/Maker? For this kind of game that is must have + Steam Workshop = Long Life. But i expect DLCs instead of that.

Oh, don't mind them. If you look at every thread about last gen games here, you will see a lot of last gen hating and current gen port begging. Guaranteed.

Anyway, I loved the Megadrive Micro Machines, I'm getting this day one!

6 gametypes but only 18 tracks?

I only need the classic micro machines gametype. they should rather have made more tracks.

The NES one was my Micro Machines of choice, though V3 on the Playstation came pretty close to it for me.

It does have online multiplayer :)

Grid Autosport, F1, they all bombed and Codemasters still continue making last gen only games. "bbuut next year there'll be current gen version we promise"

there are already 2 micro machines like games on 360: tnt racers and wrecked

I hope this ends up being good but I have my doubts

They aren't, at least chart wise. Even if PC is doing well, it can't balloon those chart positions we've been seeing.

Real pity, I'd love a new Micro Machines-like game on PS4 or even Wii U where I have a ton of controllers. Oh well.

I continue to be amazed that Codemasters are still around. I assumed that they would have gone to the wall or been absorbed by some other publisher years ago.

Are they seriously able to continue keeping the lights on in this day and age with the F1 licence alone?!

Good for them I guess.

the cars look a bit big, but otherwise it looks pretty much like a micromachines remake - the cheerios up the ramp, the coming out of pool table pockets.. not by supersonic though

I don't have a 360 or PS3 anymore though, and a PC just isn't something I have set up for sofa multiplayer - which this kind of game needs. Get your damn games out on current platforms codies - do you have a phobia or something?

You can run the tracks in reverse too once you beat the last boss and that classic race to the edge of the screen (Elimination) is back too.

I have my doubts.

A micro machines style game has been done all over the place last gen, we had wind up cars, iOS and mobile games, there's even that other MM style game getting a deluxe edition of sorts for ps4 soon, sadly all these games fail in selling well.

Codemasters may have been the ones who made the original micro machine games but I think this is a silly move.

This actually looks good. Colour me interested.

I used to love playing the GameGear Micro Machines with my friends at school back in the day. Two players on one GameGear was such a fun mode.

If only a game like this would support mods. A micromachineses style game has so much potential.

That's not really my point. I don't expect their games to be chart topping, but clearly they sell as opposed to "going there to die". Regardless, it is obvious that the ideal situation would be for the game to be everywhere - great for customers and the devs / pubs, but that may well not be feasible now or simply not a good business decision now. Of course going forward that can change even for these titles that haven't got on those platforms yet

Thats good to know.

Why did you choose a new name for this game instead of Micro Machines?

When will the steam store page go up?

were any of them actually done well, or were they all just novelty racing games? Especially on ios/mobile where the big draw of MM is local multiplayer, that just doesn't work well.

A nice simple reboot of V2-V4 era micromachines on the current consoles with maybe the option of fancier graphics if you want them - I'd buy at a high price.

Why is this called toybox turbos and not micro machines? They still own the IP right? Either way, I'll definitely get it on PC.

EDIT - oh wait, I just remembered that micro machines is actually a toy line. Probably owned by some toy manufacturer. So it makes sense if they don't want to have to pay the other company to make it a new IP.

Aren't software sales proving to be better on current gen consoles? At the very least I would expect it to be cross gen.

I know Codemasters have done this before and I'm still suprised. They seem to shy away from current gen consoles for some reason.
