PC Racing Sims

How come? Care to elaborate a bit why it isn't comparable.
I'd say the main difference is the fictional cars and fictional tracks. Endurance racing with driver swaps has been done in a few sims, not sure who should get credit for doing it 'properly' first, but it seems like iRacing's implementation is a significant milestone for them and sim racing in general. With Nurburgring on the way (and Aston Martins), iRacing will soon be able to replicate the real Spa and Nurb 24hr races, hopefully around the same time of the year. And with their recent sponsorship of the Nurburgring 1000, it may even go further in terms of sanctioned racing (like their NASCAR series) in the future. They're working on getting Le Mans too.

And while this particular race is unofficial and more of a test of stability, it represents the start of integrating endurance racing into their service in a way that has never been done before.

I mean... look how stable it is! ;)

(And the whole thing crashed after 4 hours... hopefully they can restart it from where it died...)

If it comes back up it'll be here if anyone is still following along: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eriz0dfqgBA

Yeah the server died after four hours, just as our driver was about to pit for his second fuel stint. Thankfully I managed to do my initial 3 stints without any faults, had three interactions with Ford's and HPD's not giving me enough space, but nothing serious.

Took almost an hour to get everything running again in the second server, but we're up and racing now!

So with RIDE in development are Milestone still developing the Moto GP games?
Who knows, given they lost the WRC licence rights and FWIW, the SBK series is now a mobile phone application, I wouldn't be surprised if they've lost the MotoGP licence too. RIDE appears to be a GT or Forza clone with bikes which I would welcome if it avoids the usual Milestone game shortcomings.

I'd really like a change in dev teams with the MotoGP and SBK licences. Milestone have been in a rut for ages; I keep banging on about how SBK 2001 remains Milestone's finest release however it's true. SBK Generations was nothing more than all a roll-up of the previous years content (SBK '08 through to SBK '11) in one package and the MotoGP series does little more than ape Codemasters games. Edit I liked where Monumental Games was going with the MotoGP series despite being a console only game (e.g. solid graphics engine that ran at 60fps, decent weather effects) however they were too slow to listen to customer feedback on the physics (or CrapCom wanted a sim-lite racer) and MotoGP '10/'11 was their final game, ever.

Hard to put forward a developer to take over the series...people will say Piboso however his sim, as good as it is, needs a lot of work. Can we dig up Melbourne House and Microprose to make MotoGP? GP500 still has a heap of people modding it..it's the RBR of bike sims.

Looks like my team made in 12 hours in before it all hit the fan. Our Aussie driver was doing really well until his connection spiked and he got netcoded pretty hard by a HPD from behind. 5 minutes of repairs and 10 laps later the engine blew up :(

Was great fun otherwise.

Unlucky! Great effort though.

What is the best game for a single-player offline endurance racing experience?
Not sure. In some ways it might still be GTR2 - it has lots of dynamic elements, the right kind of cars, reasonable AI and Spa. Plenty of mods to make it considerably better, but still effective 'out of the box'.

In terms of technology it has to be rFactor 2 - having the most complete dynamic elements of any sim (track evolution, time of day, weather, etc). It also has very good AI, although I've never done an endurance race against the CPU, so not sure how well they deal with pit stops. Has classic version of Spa too and plenty of mods. However, it is extremely lacking on the presentation side.

Hey Betta Lines your RBR video made it into a Polygon article.
Neat! Was wondering where that view bump came from.

Had a fun race last night with the UK&I crew, very untidy by that league's standards:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91VtkpVYJQk

I'm #212. (Race starts at about 17 mins in)

RaceSpot's first 60fps broadcast!

Definite improvement for sim coverage, but seems a tad stuttery at 60, and the lower resolutions at 30 seem to be less smooth than before too... perhaps still some teething problems on YouTube's end or is it just me?

Don't think its actually 60fps at all.

RIP thread.

Seriously though, with the death of Fastest Sector would here be interested in doing some races in some non-sim games like NFS:Hot Pursuit etc? I'd love to race in actual sims too, but lacking a wheel atm and there aren't really any suitable ones at the market unless I get an used G27.

Heh, cool seeing you back in here. I'm mostly down for any kind of racing, doesn't matter if it's arcade or sim. It's going to be much easier to beat me though, haven't really done any racing for over a month or more now so I'm definitely a little rusty.

Personally I'd love to do something remotely organized in GRID Autosport, that game is rad when you have close racing and the physics/cars are forgiving enough that it narrows the skill gap.

So we finally got pushed to Community. We were always on borrowed time. The non-OT OT. I can't believe we lasted as long as we did, tbh.

I held back doing an updated thread before out of fear of getting pushed. Does anyone want to see a new thread with an editable up to date OP? Carry on business as usual? I'll do a new one if that's what people would like.

Heh, thanks man. Too bad I missed majority of Fastest Sector (Did Foli get permabanned over here or what?) and with the last 12 months spent developing games here in Finland and Singapore I've only been lurking this thread actively. I still need to get myself a proper wheel, but I'm already upgrading my computer so hopefully that's going to happen next.

Yeah, I definitely would welcome a new thread, which hopefully would draw some new blood. Dunno if we can still post it over the proper gaming side, though.

Real talk? Mush's SuperGT league on GT5 was one of my best GAF experiences.

Seconded. We all put in so much effort to try to make the crap online systems of GT5 work for something like a league and it paid off in loads of fun, despite the frustrations. The spin off league that used the non Super GT cars was a lot of fun too, most of all because the damage model was far more forgiving so the inevitable first corner/lap pile ups weren't so race ruining. I loved all the post race screen shots and videos. I still have a bunch of the GT race videos up on my youtube here.

Edit: Oh man, that Ferrari 512's race at Rome was one of my favorite racing experiences of all time. Started last, finished first. The 512 was such an amazing car to race on sports hard tires.

Yeah. Mush vs myself during the final lap at R246 was one of my favourite online racing moments ever

OK cool. I'll start right away on it.

I'll find out if they'll let us back in Gaming for the allotted week(?) to try and pick up some subs before moving us again.

I'll certainly post a link to the new thread location either way.

I absolutely adored the SuperGT cars in GT5. I spent hundreds of hours running the SuperGT cars, and I'd pay obscene amounts of money for a SuperGT series in iRacing :(

Reiza Studios say hello from FB:

All they say is 'coming soon!'

Edit - from Bsimracing: http://www.bsimracing.com/gsc-extreme-copa-petrobras-de-marca-preview/

The Copa Petrobras de Marca Touring Car Series was born in 2011 competing in 16 races during 8 weekends with cars such as the Chevrolet Astra, Ford Focus and Honda Civic. Also a few Toyota Corolla joined the race, but where not officially part of the series. After the first and very successful season, the Copa Petrobras Series had five official brands on the grid. Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi and Ford.

Holly shit, I actually did ask 'em for including this series in the game some time ago. F'n AWESOME!

But where's the newest Focus model? :(

Brasileiro-de-MArcas.jpg

Watching some youtube vids now of the actual series. Pretty cool. Look to be FWD, but they did a great job with the Minis, so I'm sure these will come out terrific too. Definitely slower, but lighter looking than say a BTCC car.

Yes, they're FWD.

Featuring music by Stefano ;-)

Appears to be a fun series plus Reiza don't make shit cars.

That's all that really needs to be said. Whatever they bring, you can count on it being good fun and racey.

Official website has the specs: http://www.brasileirodemarcas.com.br/conheca-o-carro

1,100KG
300 BHP from a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine
6 speed sequential gearbox

Should be good fun.

I've said it a million times before, but I love the element of surprise with a lot of their cars and tracks. I've never even heard of this car until an hour ago. It's hard as hell give people something new and different these days. For me personally, having it be so South American focused is one of my favorite things about their sims.

***I DO NOT CONDONE DRINK DRIVING*** ***I DO NOT CONDONE DRINK DRIVING***

Ten hours after fours beers, half a bottle of Moet, 2 whiskeys, a lime sour, shōchū and five hours sleep, I woke up still quite drunk. Wanting to play some games while I sobered up, I went to my PC, only to find my racing rig still setup from a couple days earlier. Feeling lazy, I thought I'd give some racing a go anyway...

rFactor 2, Interlagos, Howston G4 (I'm the yellow car with turquoise stripe)

Yes, I put all 4 wheels of the circuit every lap and tapped other cars numerous times (mostly due to the AI slowing down to much), but I did surprisingly well considering the state I was in and how much of a handful those Howstons are.

:D

I was sure I was in for a laugh, but that was great! Better to bend a few fenders than collapse your Civ!

It's yolo central when I've had a few in me. My video would be 20 restarts in a row. :p

Great combo, btw. I've got to try that. It's a beastly car, and it definitely needs some space.

Nothing would make my eyes roll more than Reiza announcing Silverstone, Monza and Nurburgring. I very much enjoy their selection of relatively unknown tracks.

It's certainly a challenge to drive that beast around Interlagos properly, even the AI at 100% were having trouble keeping it in a straight line :)

Very nice video marvel!

I doubt Reiza will add those tracks or similiar unless the crowd funding mentioned a while ago becomes available and the community is given a vote for tracks. I too prefer unknown or unloved tracks versus tracks such as the Nurburgring which are already done to death in a million other sims.

Reiza on Facebook:

CLARIFICATION: There has been some confusion in reports of the Copa Petrobras de Marcas teaser published earlier that this would be a DLC pack for Game Stock Car Extreme. This is not the case.

A press release with all the details about this project will come soon. Please hold out jumping to conclusions until then. :)

A comment by Reiza's Renato Simioni in the VirtualR comments section:
Thank you for the kind words Antonio, however Copa Petrobras is not something you will have to spend money on. It´s a freebie, just not GSC-related.

And a Bing Translation from FB:
Petrobras & Reiza anticipate release of new game Copa Petrobras of brands! At first everyone thought it was going to be a Add year Prayaya International Game Stock Cars of Reiza Studios. But during this week at the auto show came a pleasant surprise. The same will be a new game (having the same base extrutural from GSC Extreme) but will be distributed free of charge. Until the closing of the game still has no download link, what will happen in the next few days. So for the most ardent fans of the category, I can only go to the Stand of Petrobras or Stock Cars at the auto show and pleitiar your copy

Oh wow. So from what I can gather, it's one of those freebie promo things not unlike Ferrari Academy (which wasn't free, but you know what I mean) and I think there was a Mercedes one as well?

God, I love Reiza. Hopefully it'll get people in on GSC.

Do Reiza do anything outside of making Game Stock Car Extreme? Like professional sim work or something? I don't understand how they can afford to just develop a spin-off game and release it for free!

It'll be sponsored. Given the name, it sounds like a series sponsored by Petrobas, maybe they're backing the game as well?

Holy shit.

Also, someone linked to this in the comments of an article on RD:
There is no question that Steam is the place to be for PC developers. We have been hesitant to make that move in previous releases for a few reasons, but that has changed. We´ll see what the future brings
Big Takeover actually replied to it, so maybe it's already been posted here, too.

I'd suggest Reiza were paid to make it - GSC-E is sublime and another sim using a lot of pre-existing assets would be cheap and it's a fantastic marketing tool. Perhaps there is a lot of in-game advertising ;)

Reiza are a tiny team spread across the globe so I'd suggest overheads are lower than most other dev teams too.
