They really are two very different approaches to the genre. It looks like people were pretty divided on which one they thought did the genre justice (I also liked TEW more, but Giant Bomb seems to disagree^^), but still happy we could have these two very different experiences this year. Hoping for more in the future^^

Your argument wasn't exactly better.
PS2 was much weaker than both the Cube and Xbox. It was more powerful than only one of its competitors of the gen.
It's disingenuous to argue that way. Otherwise 3DS is both the winner of its generation and most powerful. Because it launched before Vita.
You can argue that one of the PS2's selling points was its technical capability. But not that it was the more powerful system.

As I Dreamcast fanboy all I can remember reading from sony fans and Sony about how powerful it was gonna be, and about the emotion engine, power always played a huge roll in console generations.

What's everyone's thoughts on Destiny? Even thought it's in the top 5, it kind of seems like it's losing staying power and a pretty steep drop off to No. 5 for being hyped as the future of shooters or whatever. I'm pretty surprised by The Evil Within. I thought everyone was expecting it to bomb.

Yea except they came out like 2 years later, and Sony had almost every major third party franchise on lock down by then, it was a little to late for those consoles, and not really a good comparison.

It's a good game that gets a bit too much criticism in spite of some of its well documented flaws. It has potential to have big staying power, but it's not going to do it in its current state. The fixes require more than just small tweaks.

Depending on the region either a year difference to year and a half.
And as you said there were a multitude of other factors that lead to it's domination. But by the time those other factors were in play it was up against much more powerful systems.
Meaning the weaker system won, for a bunch of legitimate reasons. The PS2 was the most powerful system when it launched and walked away with the generation, but it was far from the most powerful system of its generation.

I bought an Xbox close at launch, and honestly thought MGS2 looked better then anything on Xbox and Gc for a while. So the power difference didn't really show up in the beginning but of course there were other factorsi mentioned. for me, the reason ps4 is kicking XB1 ass in sales is mainly cause of the power difference, people are aware, and the word is spreading, ps4 is much more powerful console.

PS2's main selling point was that it was a DVD-player as well as the successor to the PS1 which everybody loved.

Yeah apparently it sold 3m in September, 2.7m without bundles (the chart in the op don't include sales from official bundles, so I'm going by that).
Considering smash is 400-500k this means we are looking at minimum of 80% drop.
Assuming it sold something like 300k that's 89% drop.
Didn't they already say they had 9.5 million registered users? Sounds like Activision is crying all the way to the bank.
Unless 80% of those are Chinese sweatshop goldfarmers of course.

You don't own either but you have an opinion on the OSes? If you don't mind me saying so,that's a bit odd. Both of them get you to the games, both are vastly more responsive than the last gen. The layouts are slightly different and they do things a bit differently, but I don't know how you could make a call without having used both for a while.
the PS4 sticks should be fine on any console you buy now - my white PS4 was fine. And if you hadn't noticed, MS charges you for MP tool

I remember this exact argument was thrown around last year after Xbone reveal. Except that time the argument was that masses are going to buy Xbone without realizing all the bad policies because masses are uninformed.

Sounds about right, but adding another 80-100K for PS4 bundles. It was still selling fairly well going by Amazon and would not be counted for NPD ranking.
