Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

Visually, the game looks incredible, and more importantly it looks varied and fun to play. They're aiming for 60 fps, though, right?

Naughty Dog has lost their touch, very disappointing...

Damn you, looks like in playing jak 2 tonight

Again. Its perfectly valid to say Xbox One version or PS4 version of Unity looks better to someone than say this current pre-alpha version of UC4 does.

This doesn't look like a mediocre game to me (Xbox One version):

Based on those pics, it does not look better than UC4 models in any way possible.... it looks like generational difference to me, IMHO.

How so if I may ask? What about it makes it most beautiful ever?

The foliage looks damn good, for a start. And the way the animations flow so seamlessly yet without any of that artificial quality that so many games have. The water effects, from the waterfall to the trickling streams running down the rockfaces are also all very nice.

Can we stop comparing cutscene models and compare models in actual gameplay? Because once we go there, UC4 isn't very impressive at all.

Yes, the foliage does look good. But that makes it the best looking game ever? Really? Sounds more like someone that WANTS it to be the best looking game ever as opposed to it being a really good looking game with exceptional foliage.

Not a lot of games aiming for realism do I'm afraid. It's hard to maintain cutscene level fidelity in gameplay with all AI routines going.

I loved how he died in the demo, made it feel very real. I was very impressed by UC4.

Until Dawn was my game of the show though.

I don't know if it's the best looking game ever. I never got to see Crysis 3 fully cranked, and Crysis 2 looked beyond incredible with the DX11 shit, so I imagine C3 is still a notable step above this, but it is the best looking thing on PS4 I've seen.

AC has always had seamless animations from running to interacting with NPCs. It's clearly in the same league (if not moreso). Please don't dismiss other games that have done this thing generations ago.

The water effects, from the waterfall to the trickling streams running down the rockfaces are also all very nice.

But yet the water is the least attractive thing in the demo (besides the crappy smoke FX). The water in UC3 looked much better IMO. And just because the water interacts doesn't make it look better than other games with water.

Maybe thats why he said in my opinion.

He said beautiful, not best, VFX.

I'd reorganize the argument.

Edit: best looking. Eh, still arguable but yeah me and Oreonimo need to keep out.

I can't even go that far from a 15-minute gameplay video. I love how the Order 1886 looks. Several other games look very good on PS4 too.. Dragon Age, Witcher 3, DriveClub and some others.

Game is still impressive, it just didn't shut down everything else on console this gen like ND has in the past. Which is good, it'll force them to step it up. If the game launches at 30 I expect it'll look substantially better than this demo, if it's 60 then it'll be impressive by that merit.

I can agree with that.

Thinking about it this might have to do with the fact they started aiming to 60fps and now that they can't reach it, they are stuck with the assets and graphical fidelity that can't compare when you start aiming directly to 30fps.

It's a shame, but now my bet is on the new GoW and The Order graphics are the true benchmark in the console.

Rewatched gamesryde video. I'll remain on my statement that it looks better than Crysis 3. There are some thing Crysis does better but on whole this looks better. Crysis 3 may be 2 years old but its still ome of the best looking game

What the hell is your problem man? In several threads you'll come in and argue about a games graphics aggressively. On top of that this thread is about gameplay, why do you have such a hard on to praise all things PC? I remember you shutting up the Killzone thread too. Smh

Edit: sorry for going off, totally thought I was in the gameplay discussion thread lol. My bad man. Carry on.

I love the Uncharted series but after having played Unity on PC...yeah this isn't blowing me away like UC2 did. I was hoping for more of a leap in terms of how terrain was modeled and textured, but at this point it all looks quite average to me except the foliage. Aside from that obviously animations are top notch and why wouldn't they be it's ND. I expect an excellent game but not a stunning one visually if this gameplay vid is anything to go by.

You're comparing cutscene assets to multiplayer assets, U3 uses a different set of models in mp. U2 mp had a number of different lighting conditions and obviously aren't the same as sp, and you're showing Laz in mp.

U3 sp lighting and assets are much better than the one you're showing on the bottom right.

Sorry, you are correct these are the multiplayer realtime models.

Here is a comparison of Drake with the single player model.

In an interview here is what Naughty Dog said when asked are the in-game models any different from the cutscene models?

"Nope, the in game models are the exact same models that are used in the cutscenes. They also use the exact same textures. There really is no difference between them at all.

The only difference between the cutscenes and in game is a little higher quality lighting and shadowing. Hopefully not too noticeably different. We really wanted to keep the players immersed as much as possible. This meant using the same assets across the board."

IMO, the lighting and shadowing are a little lower for the gameplay footage, but that's just my opinion. I still think it is amazing what Naughty Dog achieved here.

Well, as a whole, sure, I agree. I'm not very fond of the way Crysis 3 looks, actually. I much prefer a simpler game at a crazy high resolution. I'm mindblown by the way Dark Souls and FFXIII look on PC, but I don't really care that much about the way Crysis 3 looks. But it's the "some things that it does better" that will decide which one is pushing the hardware more than the other, which I guess is the point of comparing graphics.

That said, if we're talking about a closed platform, I haven't seen anything better than Uncharted 4, no matter which criteria we're using. AC Unity on PC is in my opinion better looking than this demo, but on PS4 it's 900p 20~30fps, which is a mess.

I can't wait to see this at either 60fps or better graphics because of the switch to 30.

It's not going to shut down everything like last gen not because ND is slipping, but because Sony shipped a box that doesn't require arcane secrets obtained by a pact with satan to squeeze great performance out. X86 soc with wimpy CPU has the opposite problem to Cell where they're looking at making the GPU do CPU work instead of getting graphical effects running on the SPEs.

Sony first party looked head and shoulders above its peers on PS3 because of a better understanding of the technology and games that catered to the weird but powerful processor. First party Microsoft stuff didn't have the same advantage over third parties, but this was arguably a strength of the platform. I still have flashbacks to "we deliberately made PS3 hard to program for so we would get a lot of life out of the platform" PR nonsense.

Sorry, you're making a good point, but I'm afraid I have to nick pick as that cutscene model is from UC2 and not UC3.... Ultimately it doesn't matter from the point, but it'll just make the comparison more conisistent!

I agree with you. I just think that the "best graphics ever" and "not impressive" hyperbole from both sides is ridiculous.

Yeah, he's exhausting. All he does is praise Assassin's Creed Unity and shit on most other games. He's become a cliche.
