Will Resident Evil 7 have any form of Sony exclusivity?

It seems to me that Capcom is handing out their properties piecemeal to the highest bidder. I would guess that Xbox will go after Resident Evil for itself.

Sony moneyhatting SF5 was a smart move, because it makes them look like the next gen console for fighting games.

Resident Evil is a horror/action game which are a dime a dozen. They don't need to money hat it. At best, they could just buy exclusive advertising rights and they would save a ton of money while appearing to be exclusive.

I'd say that - as somebody already said - RE is too big to go exclusive, but after last year I'm not so sure anymore.

Hopefully. And hopefully Microsoft retaliates by moneyhatting their own console exclusives.Maybe if the practice becomes widespread enough, gamers will stop making excuses for either company and choose to speak up against it.

I wouldnt expect it. Dead Rising 3 only happen because of MS money. Street Fighter 5 is Sony money. Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are things Capcom is willing to spend its own money on.

Didn't RE6 do pretty good for Capcom? I imagine they world want to keep it a third party title, unless either of the console manufactures showed up with an amount of money that would not be a good investment.

At best they will do console specific stuff available six months later for the other platform

I can remember you arguing with people 'speaking up' against Tomb Raider 2 being Xbox exclusive.

Doubt it. But at the same time, I don't think Capcom will sell it to MS, either.

It's only 10-15%, give or take, but Biohazard is still a relatively strong brand domestically for Capcom. Going MS will effectively neuter it further there.

If Sony wants to get anything from Capcom, they need to get in on Monster Hunter on VITA and a full console version on PS4. That will get them much more attention than anything RE would provide.

I think its just street fighter since they just announced DmC and DMC4 as multiplatform. The most sony could get would be a timed exclusive or exclusive DLC.

Much more likely to be PS4 than Xbox One. Capcom can't give away all the sales in Japan.

They wouldn't be giving it up because MS is going to pay for whatever they're going to make on the PS4. That's how moneyhatting for 3rd party exclusives works.

Resident Evil is Capcom`s biggest IP. If anyone is going to pay to keep it away from millions of gamers it will cost them a lot of money.

I think only Microsoft can afford to buy exclusivity on RE. I don't see Sony having that kind of money.

Ugh not this nonsense again...sony can spend billions in R&D, in making new products every year, they spent billions alone building the Ps4 before launch, yet you think they cannot pay for 1 game being exclusive?? Come on.

RE 7 won't be exclusive. Revelations 2 and Remake HD will start pushing the new consoles for the serie's fans and both of them are multiplatform.

Why not if the check is big enough? MS can say to Capcom, whatever you think you can sell on the PS4 we'll pay you 1.5x that to make up for the loss.

If MS buys multiple game exclusivity, sure.

Biohazard is a multimedia franchise for Capcom. There's spin-offs, movies, and mainline games. In many ways, the 'brand' is just as important as the 'numbered titles.'

I'm not saying it can't happen. Capcom is stupid enough to do it. But from a long-term brand value perspective, it's definitely somewhat risky.

I understand that. Point being if you go MS then you essentially give up all sales for an entire region (Japan), not to mention worldwide the PS4 has about a 2:1 sales advantage. Therefore, MS would have to give you a much bigger moneyhat than Sony.

The most that Resident Evil 7 would be is a timed exclusive. It's far too big a franchise for Capcom to keep locked to a single platform for a significant amount of time.

So you remember me saying exclusivity is a good thing?

Didn't say you did. Just seemed a bit strange that you want people to speak out against console exclusivity bullshit when you were arguing with people doing just that around Gamescom time.

People quickly forget that Dead Rising 3 and Street Fighter V are exclusives. They also quickly forget nobody expected SFV would be exclusive.

Sensible answer? We'll see.

Plus if the Evil Within sales split are any indication, the survival horror audience is on Playstation.

Thinking about the Street Fighter deal and how that may kickstart a new collaboration between Sony and Capcom. Or is Resident Evil too big of a brand to be on a single platform? Judging by Capcom's focus on sales numbers and how Resident Evil 6 didn't sell as well as they wanted it to, is it feasible that they would go with either a timed or full exclusivity deal?

I can easily see Resident Evil 7 use the Deep Down engine and, thus, become a PS4 exclusive.

I would be so fucking happy if Resident Evil 7 is announced as a PlayStation 4-only exclusive. I'll be disappointed if it's a multiplatform game. Multiplatform = no buy.
