If you've lapsed on SWTOR or something, this expansion is gud. The change up to the talent system and it being replaced works really well and feels just right. No more giant talent tree muck.
The changes to skills and addition of new worlds really sells the "expansion" theme, as well as the fact you can solo the instances needed for the lead up to this story.
So as someone familiar with the KOTOR/2 storyline, what's the deal with Revan?
Spoiler tags obviously.
Unfortunately no. Just old fashioned paper dollars/pounds/etc.Can I buy this expansion with cartel coins?
Bought some during black friday amazon sale.
Not one now and probably not on the horizon either.I've always wanted to try this game... Is there a Mac client?
Basically they made solo modes for the two new tactical flashpoints and the last 4 tactical flashpoints that lead into this expansion story-wise. It's the same boss mechanics you would get in the normal group version. The only difference is that you have an NPC that will spawn with you that will kill anything in its path without breaking a sweat.Tell me more about these dungeon solo modes

Been thinking about picking this up and getting back into the game, but I need to know one thing, first: can you side with Revan? Or is he relegated to an endboss again? I'll 100% pick it up if the former, but if the latter, no way.

He's the end boss.
Wait a second, the Sith Emperor dies in vanilla TOR? Which story? Definitely not the ones I played. Can't be Guardian either considering you kill what's apparently a stand-in or something or other. You fatally wound the Emperor but not kill him.
Think it's the Sith Warrior.

That's exactly what happens. The Jedi Knight "kills" him but if you ever do the Sith Warrior story you find out that the Emperor is only mortally wounded and is in hiding gaining strength again. This expansion is all about bringing the Emperor back as the main villain.
It's the Jedi Knight story. The Emperors 'body' is defeated by the Knight, which leads to people on both sides to say he's dead. The Warriors story details that he's not gone though.

Backstory ( Events from the Revan novel and SWTOR)
Couple years after Kotor, Revan left the galaxy in search of the Sith Emperor the one he encountered when he left to hunt the Mandalorians in the Unknown Regions with Malak. The Sith Emperor was the one who turned Revan to the Dark Side.
Anyway, Revan alongside T3 encounters the Exile and joins up with a servant of the Emperor called Lord Scourge. They face the Emperor but Scourge betrays Revan by killing the Exile while the Emperor destroys T3 and imprisons Revan.
Revan remains the Emperor's prisoner for 300 years, that's the time SWTOR story begins. A group of Republic players release Revan from its prison and he goes to the Foundry, a Rakata space station capable of producing an infinte supply of battle droids. Revan plans to use this army to annihilate the Sith Empire, but a group of Imperial players enters the Foundry and defeats Revan.
SPOILERS (Events from Shadow of Revan)
Revan is revealed to have survived the encounter in the Foundry and brings together followers called Revanites. Revan's goal is apparently to wipe out both the Republic and the Empire so the galaxy can be truly united ( or something like that i can't remember now).
To face the threat of the Revanites, both Republic and Empire joins forces to stop Revan and they track him to the planet Yavin IV. It is revealed that Revan's true goal is to ressurect the Sith Emperor (who died in the events of vanilla SWTOR) so that he can destroy him once and for all, but by doing so, the Emperor will actually have the means to destroy all life in the galaxy.
While on the planet Yavin, the player character encounters a Force Ghost of...Revan. What really happened is that Revan died during his battle in the Foundry but his hatred for the Emperor was so strong that his spirit was split in two, with the Dark Side spirit inhabbitating Revan's body while the Light Side spirit still is nearby.
In the end the player defeats Revan, his spirits merge together and Revan finally becomes one with the Force.
Sorry if this sounds confusing and poorly written, its nearly 2 am here.
All the changes went live two weeks ago. People leveling from 1-50 were having trouble with the enemies after the patch went live. Lots of complaints of it being too hard. I think they fixed most of the problems since then. Are the talent tree changes already implemented? I'll probably try to go back but my main character is like...stuck at 49 somehow and the quests just seem too hard.
I bought the collector's edition and played it the first month and haven't touched it since. I keep saying I wanna try it out again but eh, I dunno. I literally know no one that plays it.
I have not played since launch, but this thread has gotten me interested in it again. I can't seem to find my security key though.....
Reading some of these spoilers I'm just gonna pretend none of this exists and the story ended with KOTOR 2.
Is agent healing still really really hard?
I'm so glad this stuff isn't canon anymore.

The best is how nonchalant they killed off the protagonist of kotor2. There really must be some beef between bioware and obsidian.
Did they ever implement the ability to switch between multiple builds in game? Feel like all games should have this as a standard feature.
The secret behind Revan going evil is non-sense even for Star Wars EU
I dont get the hate about revan in SWTOR at all, especially from people who only played KOTOR. KOTOR had next to nothing about revan as a character in it. he was the player character. The best is how nonchalant they killed off the protagonist of kotor2. the novel however, written by the same guy who wrote KOTOR and SWTOR vanilla, added a lot to revan, and SWTOR as well as this new expac work completely fine with the novel. and with KOTOR, too. of course. I dont understand how revan was "retconned". he wasnt.
but you are right, the exile was. bioware completely destroyed the exile. this cant even be called a retcon anymore. and the exile was a much more interesting character, jus as KOTOR2 was the much more interesting game. if you want to shit on SWTOR, forget revan, that's nothing. remember the exile.
no, pretty early you could buy the ability to respec anyhwere and anytime, though.
but a multiple-build feature, and more importantly, a multipe-gear feature never came.
