I got the 3DS for faceplates but I wish I got the XL. Its not as comfortable as the old XL to hold. :( Oh well.

Yeah, I noticed that most people go with XL model. I have a feeling I'm gonna end up with that one too. It's just too bad that there isn't at least a white model with SNES buttons.

that regular size white model is sexy. But I cannot tolerate the super tiny screens of the regular model.

You might want to investigate but Im sure I read somewhere that the regular N3DS has the same screen size as current XL. ( you'll need to research as I am not 100% sure)
What I know for sure is that the N3DS definitely has a bigger screen than the current gen regular 3DS.
I have the regular N3DS in white and it's a very nice size all round I would say including screen size.

not true in the slightest.

New 3DS XL is the exact same screen size as the original 3DS XL.

The standard New 3DS has a screen slightly larger than the original 3DS, but still far smaller than the XL.

Received my New 3DS XL today. The difference in the 3D stability is astounding. I've switched back and forward testing the stability and sweet spot on the old 3DS XL and it almost seems broken to me now. I can move a fair bit on the new and the camera tracking keeps the 3D absolutely solid. Brilliant.

So just to clarify, if I go and buy an XL today there's no way I can have my eshop library on both my n3DS and my n3DSXL at the same time is there?

Can someone give me a comparison of the dpads between the 3DS XL and the two New systems?

As far as the N3DS XL is concerned (I don't have the regular N3DS), it's better. The buttons and dpad are a lot closer to the DSi XL than before - they feel far more responsive and the face buttons and ZL/ZR have a very nice "click" to them. The dpad is really, really good.

Fantastic. I found the DSi models to have perfect dpads, very clicky and responsive, and not loose and obnoxious like the 3DS XL.

Thanks a bunch

American checking in. I'm getting super anxious for Nintendo to at least make an announcement concerning a release.

Still debating over whether I want the regular or XL, but so far I'm leaning towards the former - comfort be damned. My hands are average, so I don't think it'll be too bad. I don't recall ever having any cramping when I had the OG 3DS. I just want those sexy SNES buttons and faceplates. Oh, and a white system to match my Vita.

Come on, Nintendo!

Waikato, NZ here.

I will be purchasing this soon, good times indeed!!

If anyone is buying from NZ, I highly recommend Mighty Ape, best customer service team I've dealt with bar none.

I found out that a game store owner I know around here has an Australian gamer buddy who travels a lot.

...

Might ask that dude to grab a spare N3DS XL the next time he passes by.

Got mine, Play-Asia. Struggled with the region error when transferring but got through it after a couple of tries. Only regret is not ordering face plates at the same time. Now I need to go out and buy a bigger micro SD so I can redownload my games. The 'limited' transfer option is good to have.

Best thing would be to get your hands on them before buying it. The new XL is much nicer to hold, so it's hard to say for sure which one would be better for you personally.

I've never owned a 3DS and really want to play the Layton's (4 of which I haven't played), Pokemon, Phoenix Wright, Pokemon and the Zelda's.

Is it best for me to wait for the UK launch? I assume it'll be relatively soon?

Also, I've heard the 3DS is weak for headphones.. does this improve it?

Yes it's definitely best to wait, don't be tempted by all the cheap regular 3DS sales as they dump old stock, the new one is way better.

Headphones is still the same though unless you're rocking some high impedance full sized cans it won't be an issue.

If your hands already get cramped with the XL then it's only gonna get worse with the regular.

That sounds good, any idea on how long you're expecting?

The headphones I'm getting are 32 ohms.. I assume that would be OK?

Probably a straight no but is there any way to use the file transfer on a Chromebook? Or is it just Windows?

All these Fantasy Life screens...

No idea sorry man, it's already out here in Australia. I could go outside right now, walk a few blocks and buy one. Nyaah. :p

Yeah I'd say 32 is low. It's the high end of low but it's still low enough that you shouldn't need to turn the volume up to full.

I envy you strongly! I can't complain too much because of the AU prices though.

That sounds good, thanks for your help! Using high volume doesn't really bother me so that's fine!

I imported my New 3DS XL to the UK from Australia and even with postage it came to the same price that the standard 3DS XL retails for here

lol, you americans dont know how good you've got it with prices. envy.

I'm also UK GAF but on some sites here it is cheaper than current import prices.. and I'd rather avoid the postage costs.

The SNES styling was what swung it for me, so I got a n3DS over a nXL.

I got an OG 3DS at launch, then upgraded to an XL as soon as they released as I found the original so uncomfortable to use. The n3DS is infinitely more comfortable than the OG 3DS, but the XL's size means the d-pad is is a more usable position and you can use it and the shoulder buttons together without adopting a claw grip. If I didn't already have an XL and just upgraded from the OG 3DS, I would find the n3DS wonderful.

I don't have buyers remorse getting the n3DS over the nXL, but I think I should have got the bigger one as I prefer the form factor of the XL. On the plus side, coming from an XL, the pixel density on the smaller n3DS screen is very nice, and very few game need me to use the d-pad as a primary input.

Unless you want the faceplates or are desperate for the SNES buttons, I would recommend the nXL.

Damn, I just recieved the email with the invitation for the ambassador n3ds, but this made me doubt.

I was planning on selling the ALbW special edition I have and use the funds to get the ambassador one, just how worse is the grip?
I think I can stand the screen form factor, but I don't like the grip that much, even on my XL.

On the bright side, pixel density... It was never a huge issue, but damn those black lines between pixels.

I never get those invitations :(

I buy...pretty much every firstparty Nintendo game and register them and I've been a club Nintendo customer for 10 years

I didn't even get the Tomodachi demo :(

Oh well....

Edit: 200 € is a lot of money though.

been using it with resident evil revelations. it works great - takes some getting used to, but it's incredibly precise.

Yeah RE is the only game I've tried with it and I was surprised by how well it works.

Although I think I'm about to put my n3DS in storage and get the n3DS black XL to match my new Vita 2000. :p

Are there any cases for the n3DS yet? Went to EB today and all they had were those enormous Mario/Pokémon cases that would hold a Wii U. It's great that Nintendo gave us 50 faceplates to choose from but how about some genuine cases!?

Some of the older OG 3DS and DSi (XL) cases work.

QUESTION for anyone with a New 3DS:

Does the face tracking work well in a dark room? Or do you need lights on for it to see your face?

Good morning. Some questions

1) are these available in England yet?

2) if so, if i have a friend mail one here to America, will it get through customs if marked as gift?

3) when people say the 3d has improved, in ehat eay exactly?

Thanks in advance

1) only through the ambassador program. If you didn't get an email from Nintendo, they're not

2) They'd have to mark it as a gift and put a fake low value on it. If it got inspected, you could still get hit with costs when they realise the form was fraudulent. If you got one from Europe, USA games wouldn't work on it

3) You can use it at much better angles. There's a little IR camera that tracks your head so you can move the console around without the 3D breaking which you couldn't do with the older model.

So when this finally comes to the US, I'm planning on getting one. When I do, I want to give my old 3ds to a friend. So I'm hoping there is a method in place to switch my account over to the new one and sort of "factory reset" the old? I have a 32 gig card in there, so I'm guessing I can just pop that into the new one after doing whatever and have all my data? And is there anything saved directly on the 3ds and not the SD card that I'd have to worry about?
