The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

This is exactly what I see

I saw white and Gold at first,

then i read the description, rubbed my eyes, turned off accent light...

and now its gray-blue and dark gold.

WHAT IS THIS SORCERY!?

I honestly can't see how people see this as BLACK!? The blue kinda makes sense, because the temperature of the lighting is pretty cool. I just interpret it as white though.

The gold is obvious, to me.

I think a big part of the debate is whether people are saying what they see, or what they think it actually is...
You can definitely see gold, but its just from the really bad lighting. So some people take that into account, some don't.

—Blue and Black: In conclusion, your retina’s cones are more high functioning, and this results in your eyes doing subtractive mixing.

**** UPDATE to prove this theory I turned my phone brightness from the lowest to highest and saw it switching from white and gold (at the lowest) to light blue and darker gold (at the highest) meaning people that see blue and black are more sensitive to light (better eyesight and not looking at the sun like your moms told you)

Jokes on you random person on the internet. I see Black and Blue but have been staring at the sun since I was a child.

bonkers that it's actually blue and black.

From my phone it looks like a really pale Prussian blue (yes that specific!). Sort of like the color of snow when the sun goes down.

It's the lighting in the picture. If I turn off f.lux I can see a tint of blue in the dress but gold is still present. If I turn f.lux back on I just see white and gold. There was a similar thing with the Zelda demo footage where things had a blueish tint because of the open window next to them, but by making the image warmer it corrected the colors more accurately representing the E3 trailer.

Why isn't there a Star Wars RPG? And wouldn't James Bond make for a pretty good FPS?
I can't figure out if this is the greatest troll of all time or if you guys seriously see black and blue

If I strain my eyes long enough its light blue and gold. First glance scrolling on my phone is white and gold but seeing the whole its light blue and gold. How the hell you see blue and black? I'm being mindblown.

I see a light violet and gold. I know that is white, but the back light is giving the white a light violet tone to it. I could never see black and blue here no matter how hard I try.

white is objectively wrong. its blue. like... its blue. it cant be anything but blue
some people are then saying either black or gold but honestly the photo is so shitty it looks like both. looks goldish up top and then slowly becomes less so the further down the dress you go. but again, its not gold. its black

Clearly blue and black, even with brightness turned all the way down.

Is everyone else trying to trick me? O_O

How is it bonkers that colors look different under different lighting/exposure?

But yeah, the image is a fairly desaturated blue, and a brownish/goldish/whatever. I don't understand how this is a discussion unless there's a really stupid trick happening with different images loading to different people's browsers; even if you have a hilariously miscalibrated display, it's pretty easy to verify the colors in something like MS Paint.

Fun experiment: I first saw this on my desktop, and it definitely looked white and gold to me.

A short while later I looked at this thread on my tablet, and it looked black and blue.

Now, going back to my desktop, it appears black and blue - guess my brain has fixed on seeing it that way now.
