This is really neat and awesome!

Then again there is absolutely nothing at all stopping Sony improving their SDK and drivers and honestly I think it's crazy to expect them not to.

Was there not some graphs released that showed a 20% boost; however it was only 1 game and the rest only showed a 5-10% increase?

I could have sworn I saw one when this was first stated months ago.
 
A 20% boost is borderline magical.

This is great news for all XBone developers.

Does the ps4 get some similar boosts, or does it avoid using directX 12 entirely?

Good for XB1 owners, but when all is said and done it's all about optimizing the code for the hardware.
Sony is able to do the same (and the tech teams like ICE have been busy doing this all along anyway).

The proof will be in the pudding in the games of fall 2015 (if DX12 impacts things then, perhaps will have to wait 2016)...

I am far more excited by what DX12 means for PC gaming frankly, as the general graphic API is far more important and critical for performance rather than a console where you can "optimize to the metal".

Whoah. Is the gap closed now? Couldn't Sony theoretically also make their software more efficient as well?

+10% after Kinect removed
+20% DX12
+??? inevitable cloud power

Total boost 30% + cloud power = PS4 is done.

Still not enough to overcome PS4's GPU advantage, especially in pixel fillrate.

PS4 - 25.6 billion pixels (32 ROPs x 800 MHz)
Xbox One: 13.6 billion pixels (16 ROPs x 853 MHz)


Not to mention PS4 API and GPU driver improvements coming from ICE Team and Razor Team aka SN Systems.

Yes, but DirectX is the software API that games use to communicate with the GPU. Since it's a Microsoft proprietary API, it's only supported on Microsoft's platforms.

So i'm wondering then - Developers use DirectX for XBox One versions but the PS4 versions run using a different driver?

I'm just confused about why multiplatform games would be so different across systems in how they're built.

20% boost related to what? Launch Xbone API? :)

PS4 already has nicely optimized low level API, and nothing is stopping sony to update it as time goes on. Of course, MS will continue to promote their advanced like mad in attempt to fix their public image.

ESRAM is the culprit in 900p. Tiling may help but it's a pain in the ass to manage. People are acting like DX12 unlocks 20% GPU. I don't think that's what was said. Is this another "theoretical peak" thing?

The hardware is set already, the GPU is not magically going to become more powerful.

It will become more optimized, not more powerful.
