DirectX 12 adds a 20% gpu boost to the PC version of Fable

I thought after the Nvidia conference last night we all figured out that people can go on stage and spout incorrect nonesense and pretty much get away with it.

Also, didn't Phil Spencer himself say that DX12 won't boost the GPU? Wouldn't he, more than anyone, know how the XB1 benefits from it?

I hope there is an increase, as someone who loves both consoles. But part of me believes that while the performance of the console may be better, the games won't be running that much more different.

Sure to be a stupid question...

Could something like this affect back-compatibility with previously released games?

20% to what?

The hardware specs are set, so I guess they got API efficiency. As for the closing the gap with PS4, well no, that hardware difference isn't going to change and PS4 like One API improves too.

Really? I thought Spencer said it wouldnt improve performance so much?
I guess the only way for Sony to "counter" this is to lessen the hit of resources for the OS?

It won't even get close to PS4 levels. PS4 has 8 GB GDD5. It might help a little bit by bumping some games up to 900p instead of 720p though.

I smell horse....poo.

The hardware is set already, the GPU is not magically going to become more powerful.

It will become more optimized, not more powerful.

Yeah, it just makes it easier to use the full "potential" of the hardware's numbers on paper. Doesn't actually boost it past what it can theoretically do. Pretty awful wording.

Cool, hopefully this means that they'll be able to stop making tradeoffs and sacrifices to get multiplatform games running at 900p on Xbone, and the only major difference will be the resolution.

So it will almost be on par with PS4?

I think that with these kind of "low level" changes and "theoretical gains" you're looking at stuff that might be affected as much by the teams developing content as it is the DirectX version.

Will this mean that teams making stuff like Killer Instinct suddenly can match what Naughty Dog is capable of in terms of performance and graphics? No.

But maybe It means that Halo 5 drops frames less often than it would have otherwise.

Microsoft has a whole operative PR team that explains and demonstrates the upcoming technologies and programming methods that the company uses to enhance the performance of its Xbox One video game console, but Sony on the other hand, likes to give some secrecy to the people who work for betterment of the PS4, and with no PR team, you will hear fairly less about what is going on behind the scenes at Sony, but that doesn’t mean the platform holder is not concerned about the performance of its console.

So we've gone from "Xbox one isn't getting full DX12 because there are no DX12 GPU's out right now" to "Xbox one won't benefit at all from DX12, it's for PC" to "lol people still believe this?"

It's a show for developers, not random consumers.. Why would he even lie about that considering the circumstances? He's not saying it to every random Joe in the street.

People are so quick to compare things to PS4 (console warz!).

Why can't it simply be a good thing to see the system improve?

In all seriousness, it will be nice if they can squeeze out some improved performance due to better optimization. Every little bit helps.

I would say GAF's reaction to this is more reasonable than I thought - no one buying what Microsoft is peddling here.

Now i didn't see exactly what was said, but given this is a developers conference i would assume its safe to imagine you don't magically get 20% improvement across the board, rather that certain API calls / functions are now up to 20% quicker due to the lower CPU overhead and lower level access allowed.
