iOS Gaming March 2015 | Beware the IAPs of March

Silly Sausage is a lot of fun. Nitrome is definitely one of the go to devs on the app store. I feel as though sometimes the controls are a bit clunky, but overall I enjoy the game. It's a fun little pick up and play with a charming aesthetic.

Actually, I think one of my biggest complaints are the ads. They're almost constant unless you pay the $1.99. Not an unfair price, but I haven't noticed this level of ads with their other games.

XCOM bought! Amazing game and I haven't played Enemy Within. Lol, I got the PC version for free by answering a survey. and now I bought the iOS version on sale. It's going to the backlong, though, since I just got Code Name STEAM for 3DS.

Has there been any recent news at all about an iPhone version of Hearthstone yet or...??
They said last month at the press announcement that it would be out "within the next couple of months".

They're trying to be kind to my GPA by releasing it in May or so, so I'm not on my phone all class just playing HS.

Cool pic of Love You To Bits. They're doing a crossover with the devs of Paradise Lost

Epic Space Battles came out last night for $1.99. The dev just dropped it to free -- already!

If you're curious, it's a very basic arcade space shooter. Pick the number of enemies and blast away. Ok for a quick fix but otherwise forgettable.

I'm really surprised by Star Wars Rebels. Probably because the last SW game I remember was basically a CoC clone, I didn't have high expectations. So to find a free game with an full unlock, no timers, no ads was pretty cool. There is also IAP to unlock your character's upgrades early and for a currency doubler

The cool thing about the game unlocks is that, similar to Reaper and Jet Car Stunts, you can choose between unlock tiers.

So I went against my usual instincts of avoiding freemium and tried Kings Road...

I usually only play non invasive F2P games (charge for aesthetics, LoL, PoE) but so far I am kind of liking it. The UI isn't the normal cheap big green buttons, the mix of 3D and 2D is nice, it feels pretty good.

Not sure how bad / good the systems are yet but so far I actually like it.

What other F2P IOS games have you played?

I decided to jump in with The Trace and only played for a short while so far, but the amount of gloss and presentation is unbelievable, I can't recall a game on iOS with this much detail.

I am learning that with this game, I think timers / energy is where I bail out, none of those so far.
Same. Sky Force was the rare exception for me, mainly because the game is so good and because you could play while upgrade timers are counting down, but I typically have no patience for timers/fuel/energy

But if you haven't, check out Sky Force. One of the best shmups on IOS.

I'm on the fence. Main things I'm curious about are the length and how many cases/crime scenes you investigate

Looking online I read that the game consists of one murder spread across four scenes and lasts around 2-3 hours. If the beginning is anything to go by, I'll be happy with that for the price I paid.

Some quick impressions from a short time with Final Fantasy Record Keeper:

1. it's Final Fantasy. It's got all the things you remember: the music, the battle system, the terminology, the fan-favorite cast
2. it's free, but it's stamina-based. I was able to go for a good bit (maybe an hour? about 4 or 5 full dungeons) before hitting that wall, but I've hit it.
3. it seems too easy at first, which compounds the next two issues
a. there's an optimization button for nearly everything, from party to equipment to skills
b. there's an auto button for battles

#3 seemed to be the biggest issue for me. Between an ever-optimal party and auto-attacking simple mobs, I only ever actively played anything when I came to a boss. Even then, I'm confident I could have just left it on Auto and came out with nearly the same results.

I mastered each dungeon I came across and seemed to be leveling at a pace to continue to do so. I wiped when I tried the daily event on Normal, which had no indication that it would be a scenario where the mobs take damage in the double-digits while they one-shot you. But then I mastered that same daily event on Easy.

But it's got some good nostalgia going for it, and if you ever wanted to see Kain hang with Cloud, this is it. It's perfect for when you can only pay periodic attention to what you're playing. I'll stick around with it for a little while longer, but my inclination is that it's going to get pretty grindy (considering the gulf between Easy to Normal events) which will exacerbate the Stamina mechanic. We'll see.

Stamina generation is very generous. I have no problem playing in 30-60 minute bursts every few hours.

Boss fights do get harder. If you want to take on harder dungeons you will definitely need to upgrade equipment and spells, and make good use of them in battle to clear with a high ranking.

Ok, I think I have to inform myself about available controllers for ios if this is the original with support for it.
