Will this be the defining holiday season for Xbox One?

With the news of Zelda for Wii U not reaching it's 2015 goal for release and Uncharted 4 being delayed until 2016, both PS4 and Wii U both lost their big holiday exclusive game to next year, while Halo 5, Xbox One's big holiday exclusive is set to launch this year. With neither PS4 or Wii U having a big exclusive for the holiday, could this be the holiday season for the Xbox One to really shine?

That depends on how Halo 5 turns out. A lot of pressure is on 343 to deliver, especially after the MCC embarrassment.

the answer to this depends on what Sony does and how much cheaper MS can get the X1. If they can't undercut the PS4 significantly like they did last year, they'll be left behind. It doesn't really matter though. At best they take Nov and Dec in NA, but WW they still get absolutely outdone by the PS4 and the gap continues its rapid rise.

Why, is the PS4 going somewhere?

Probably not, you listed one game from a stale franchise

Even with Zelda, Nintendo is bound for 3rd place anyway. As for the PS4, it's hard to say because it's selling at an historic pace despite their first parties not really delivering any gems yet. I would imagine that whatever exclusives they release this holiday will be better than the tandem of LBP3 and DC that they released last Fall.

Druckmann hasn't delayed Halo 5 yet, give it time. He already delayed UC4 and Zelda. Halo 5 is next.

haha well played

OT: not really..third party games will be the most important and Halo 5 sales potential might not be as good as it used to be nowadays

Since this isn't 2007 I don't see Halo 5 giving a big push to the XB1 or even staying relevant for a month. I think Sony could do a price drop with a decent pack in and be fine.

Assuming it isn't delayed, a broken mess like MCC, or shite like Halo 4, then in the US it has a decent shit of helping to another win, as long as MS stick to their Christmas stratergy of fire saling the system.

It'll probably be shite, broken, delayed or all three though. 343 don't exactly have a reassuring track record.

Lineup looks really bad this year, especially after Tomb Raider was confirmed timed. I wouldn't buy an Xbox One for Halo 5. 343 is trash.

Microsoft is super aggressive during holidays in NA, If UC4 had come out Microsoft would simply counter by throwing in an extra game for their bundle or lowering the price of their console even more.

What's your definition of defining holiday season? Will it do well? Probably. Will it do so well it will suddenly be in the lead and shift the momentum towards Xbox being the platform leader? Absolutely not.

UC4 and Zelda were set to launch this year, too. Never know what's going to end up happening.

Except, as we saw with the Halo 5 beta, and the fact they already pushed it to 3 year dev time and released MCC in 2014 slot, Halo 5 will come out in 2015. The question is September or November.

LOL, you're so going to eat crow these holidays. Halo 5 will probably be the best selling game on Xbox One so far, maybe even be the best selling next gen exclusive upto this point as well. Unlike Halo 4, this game is getting well received. And while MCC did fuck up a lot of positivity for Halo, MCC was selling like hotcakes for the first two weeks of launch before the problems became widespread.

I wish it were easy to say Halo 5 is going to be a crown jewel in the Xbox One lineup, but there's just no telling if 343 can deliver.

Maybe? It's hard to say. No matter what anyone says, Halo is still a big franchise, but its really skating on very thin ice right now. It's hard to say whether it is as big as it used to be (I'm leaning towards no). They also have Tomb Raider, which will be big.

I think QB being delayed is true though, so I'm not expecting that this year.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Nothing is definitive. If the game needs more time, it needs more time.

Halo 5, Forza 6, Rise of Tomb Raider, Gears collection.

Halo 5 will do well no doubt, then you have a track racing game that doesn't light sales on fire, a game that most people know is coming to other platforms later and another remastered collection (albeit one that many like myself will look forward to).

I don't think that lineup is particularly great but it's certainly better than what Sony and Nintendo have right now (aka nothing).

It will be interesting to see what things look like after E3.
