Mortal Kombat X Performace Analysis

If the cinematics were made at 30fps wouldn't it require developing brand new ones to let pc's run them at 60fps? Probably means they will be the same.
I doubt they were made only to run at 30 fps (why would they do that?). Rather...they are locked at 30fps because they use higher detailed models and effects for the time they are on screen and consoles cannot handle them at 60.

PCs can run games at variable framerates... no reason to limit non-gameplay affecting scenes to 30fps.
I think it's a genuine concern. I don't know how MK9 on PC handled it though.

That's definatley the case most likely. They design their engine to fit the needs of the consoles and so they can't just unswitch it for PC.

Its the same with CC2's games. They are always at 30fps, on PC as well. And even now on next gen, its still 30fps even though those games COULD run at 60fps on both console and PC considering the requirements.

Dear gosh. It is so sad how we expect game makers to just "not get" pc gaming all the time.

They have been showing off both versions quite a bit before release.

Shouldn't someone have noticed if the XB1 version was running at a lower resolution before now? Or can you not tell on youtube/twitch videos?

People who have both have been saying they are almost identical.

You cant really tell from youtube due to compression.

Next gen platforms are pretty clearly their main focus here, not the PC version. It'd be nice if the other stuff ran at 60, but I doubt it will. They're not going to reencode every thing for one version.

Why? Have they replaced the GPU with a stronger GPU in the last months?

Because it's not a graphical powerhouse of a game. I'm getting the ps4 version but if I had chose the Xbox one I would like for it to be equal to the ps4 version (trying to find a reason to buy games on my xb1 instead of ps4 as it is lol)

Couldnt they do 1080p on xbone? KI is 900p and I think it looks better

Really? It looks considerably worse to me. Less going on in the back grounds, no interactables, no in game camera shifts, less animation frames, etc... It's ok looking, but MK has it beat handily as far as detail, animation, and effects are concerned. Art style is subjective though.

Sorry I thought he meant it was literally like back in the day where the cutscene was just a video playing off the disc.

Most of the cutscenes are pre-recorded movies (which turned out look less detailed than the game per se). I guess on PC, the few other ones along X-Rays and -alities can be upped 60 though. But the movies couldn't.

Wait? Cutscenes are real time? I don't have to watch badly compressed videos anymore?
Like the previous games, most are not. Only intros, -alities, X-Rays and transitions from cutscene to in-game.

It's pretty simple, 40% more powerful gpu, 40% more resolution. I'd rather that developers improve them scaler methods on xbox and add post processing to the image.

It could have those too.
DOA5 Last Round PC has 60FPS fights and 30FPS cut-scenes.
That is also sad.

I guess I will just hope the xrays and -alities are frameunlocked up to 60 (preferably higher)

If it's locked at 60fps on both consoles, them there is nothing to complain. Considering that bringing the resolution up to 1080p on Xbone could bring the fps down, they made the right decision. Smooth gameplay is the most important thing in fighting games.

Oh god is "high voltage" doing the 360/PS3 port. God what a shite developer.

I really don't understand this comment. the PC ports of MK9 and Injustice overall are superior to the console versions (overall improved textures, lightning, and supporting higher resolutions), outside of the poor netcode. It's not like High Voltage is making broken ports with missing content unlike Tecmo did with DOA5 LR on PC.

Should we call Capcom or SNK Playmore shit devs for making technically identical versions of their console versions of USF4 or KOFXIII and having poor netcode too.

Hell at least the their games have full graphics configuration in-game without the need of an external tool, the same can't be said what Tecmo did with DOA5 LR on PC. Why the hell a developer can delay a fighting game on PC for a few months after the console versions AND netplay delayed for months, even after the game was ALREADY delayed is deserving of the label of "shit"

In the end the game looked smooth as hell and was still great looking on X1 at that tourney the other day on Twitch.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
NR is not afraid to downgrade the graphics/resolution if they have to in order to have a locked 60fps experience. They made this clear twice when they ported MK9 and Injustice to the PS Vita so if the XBO ends up with 900p than so be it NR is more interested in having the game run at 60fps.

I'd love to post a pic of it on XB1 but apparently you can't share screenshots of games that aren't out yet. It doesn't upload them. Fucking lame.
Took a pic of a game that's out afterwards and it went up immediately.

It looks fine on x1. Don't see why people are so worried. Have been playing for the last week and didn't think the graphics look bad at all. Except for the cut scenes, those are terrible.

Only framerate drops I've seen are during achievements popping up. It happened twice to me.

Saints row PS3 port and PS4 version of gat out hell say hello. Both done by high voltage. My mate had the PS3 version of SR4 that said insert disk when he launched it..... He bought the digital copy. And my game crashed way too often (still love the game though)

The particles in KI blow MKX out of the water. I also think the characer models look better. MKX characters look identical to MK 2011

I think fatalities and x-rays are 30fps, maybe thats what you saw?

No, it was definitely a drop. Only happened once, and only for a few seconds, right as Jax stubs his cigar on the opponents tongue. Never saw it happen with any other characters, so it must have been a one-off thing.

When cutscenes run at 30fps with the frame rate unlocked, I fear how the last gen version will look/perform. Not like Shadow of Mordor's 540p@~20 fps I hope lol

Saints 3 and 4 aren't exactly the most stable games on PC either. I have had several freezes and lock ups on the PC version of both games. So I don't think this is any particular issue with High Voltage, but just issues with the engine used in both SR3 and 4.

High Voltage did a very competent job on ALL of NetherRealms titles they ported to date, the only issue was netcode, but again I think most of the major fighting games not using GGPO this is generally a problem regardless.

Why are X1 owners still surprised about this?

We knew going into this generation that PS4 had an edge on them hardware-wise, just like last gen.

60FPS is the important factor here, but disappointment in performance difference between two current gen consoles is justified. Just as it was during 360/PS3.

For PC people - MKX is Preloading via Steam - so you can also expect keys from outlets such as GMG to become available shortly

I have come to terms with the Xbox One being a 900p console (for 60 fps games).

I'm not surprised if this is true. What's disappointing is the lack of any dev transparecy. They seemed to imply it would be 1080p/60.
