BLOODBORNE Update (1.03) available

What a circle jerk this place is. I simply state I am holding off a full price purchase until a bug (that I notice and I don't have to play to notice) is fixed and a bunch of people come out of the woodwork to egg me on and make it like I am ready to bomb the FROM offices and I am on some crusade. I just offered my opinion on a message board. I fully intend to buy the game. I love the Souls series, currently playing through DS2:SotFS , and I am not sure why I got such a negative reaction to a statement regarding a held off purchase. I often hold off on games that have technical issues (mainly frame rate and frame pacing) and it usually pays off. I was faced with similar comments and interactions when I was holding off on playing GTA5 until a PC or next gen release and that paid off. I am drowning in games at all times so why not play them when issues have been ironed out. To the people who circled the wagons over my buying habits I am glad I won't have to deal with you any further.

People jumped on you because you went way out into hyperbole world with your "pile of technical shame" thing, not because you aren't playing Bloodborne right now. Calm down dude.

Like I said on Twitter... this made me so, SO disappointed :(

Don't watch unless you want to be disappointed!

Really? Why? Because you found out it's the Cleric Beast door or because it doesn't open? I mean you can see the Cleric Beast bridge from above so it's not like it's some big secret...

If the door was open now, it would just be a shortcut.

It wouldn't even be a shortcut. You could get into Cathedral Ward quicker from the Cathedral Ward lantern.

"Pile of technical shame."

You have no sympathy from me.

What new area?

The door leads to the bridge. The door is worthless.

If the door was open now, it would just be a shortcut.

Unless its a magic door that somehow defies the geometry of the world?
The world features Cthulhu. It very well could be a door with a magic portal.

Geez you guys, have you played the previous Souls DLCs? They never connect directly to the world. Probably just teleport you to a new area. Similar to using the Tonsil stone etc. that's what I mean.

Gonna stick to my theory until it doesn't happen. :p

That door will not lead to DLC unless they make it a portal of some sort instead of a functioning door. The biggest suspect for a DLC link for me was the closed ladder door in B
yrgenwerth
. That area felt like such a waste anyway so it would be perfect for DLC.

I know what it's about but usually anything DLC related is added later. It's not gonna be in the game yet. So people can try digging and they'll find nothing. The prompt is what makes me suspicious.
Because the video is suggesting with proof that its just a shortcut that lead to and from the Cleric demon.

So why would they make it DLC, knowing how logical the area placement is, and how importantly all the areas connect?
Why give you the Closed prompt? What's the point?
The theory is that they meant to have it be a shortcut at some point, but then maybe changed their mind?

Speaking of DLC. Remember when people in the OT were saying that Cainhurst Castle could have been held back and released as DLC? :lol I love, love that area, but it's like 30 minutes long. Artorias of the Abyss is about 5-10 hours long and the 3 DS2 DLCs took me 8 hours each. I think people were just impressed by how awesome that area looked and forgot the time they spent in it.

Lik:
Because the Church sealed it when they closed off the bridge and let Yharnam burn.

Why give you the Closed prompt? What's the point? Could've just been a random door you can't open like the rest of the game.

Sounds like a quick hotfix to me. They decided to nix the shortcut, and just kept the default locked message up.

Looking forward to jumping back into the game.
It's weird, I've played for like a dozen hours or so at least, 2 bosses in, and I feel like I haven't even BEGUN the real game yet.

Fixing broken lifts! Holy shit yes :D

I literally couldn't fight a boss because of a broken lift. Game was unfinishable for me. Oh...and yay for better loading times too :)

The long loading time made me a better player because I didn't want to go thru that every time I died. I was more cautious and played smart. It has it pros and cons. In my case it was pro.

You could have done that without long loading times. So no there are no "pros" here.

This shit wouldn't happen under Ratchet's watch.

RIP Ratchet.

Yeah, WTF is that about. Such a tease to have a hatch over a ladder with some sort of cable attached to it.

Pretty sure there's a note in Yharnam that specifically says the Healing Church sealed the door on the bridge to prevent the scourge of beasts spreading to the Cathedral Ward.

I suspect they removed it as a shortcut because it would be hard to reconcile of the player had not yet fought Cleric Beast. I guess it could still work, but they probably thought it didn't flow appropriately.

Yep I had a popular message I left at that locked hatch.

"hidden path lies ahead, eventually oh, I can't wait...hee..hee"

I have around 73 insight right now. I heard that holding a lot makes the game harder is that true? I think I'm close to the end of the game but I haven't done any multiplayer stuff yet. The stuff you can buy with insight in the dream world seems kind of lame.

Jesus what's with you guys and this crazy Cleric Beast closed door DLC hype? Lol, it's just a closed door...

I'm more interested in the latch on the floor, in
Byrgenwerth
. It seems like it should open and lead somewhere via ladder, like the one leading to the Cathedral ward. Even the Sinister bell is disabled when you stand on it, making it seem like a shortcut.

Yeah, that trap door is my first guess for an entrance to future DLC.
you will see, you will soon see!

need more eyes!
I could always use some more eyes.

never caught that. i feel like the dead end on the
big street in the unseen village
was supposed to lead to something as well

It's a more than competent release from a developer known not to be the most technically proficient in their games.

Even for fromsoft this is pretty bad. I don't remember having slowdowns and when killing a group of enemies in DeS, DS 1 & 2

It's hilarious, isn't it?

But it's not? It does take time to boot up the game from scratch to the initial 'play online' option... this skips that, at least.

Why shouldn't we praise them? Some games never get patched, and that sucks too. Sure, it would be better if games were all launch ready when they're launched, but at the same point in time it's nearly impossible to release a large game like bb completely bug free. There's likely going to be some odd issue (if you talk to a npc y, then do xyz, it breaks the quest!) that playtesters simply never found... and it's great when those issues are patched.

At least BB was released in a fully playable state - it certainly wasn't broken and there was nothing significant enough to delay the release (and all the issues that entails). loadtimes were never a deal breaker for me. Matchmaking needs work, though -- I can get it working but there's obviously lots of room for improvement.

I am certainly not complaining that they're supporting the game after release.
I just don't think that this should be the minimum.

I noticed this and the one you quoted, the hatch in Byrgenwerth.

Although someone left a note by the trap door in the Byrgenwerth saying 'wondrous hidden passage' or something, which made me keep an eye out for any way to get to it.

Maybe we're all missing something.

The Cleric Beast door has been explained by the lore, though. If anything is added from DLC it might be a portal, but I reckon that's a pipe dream.

Told ya the Canon was gonna get nerfed. I remember someone quoting me and saying impossible lol. It was pretty insane that you could get 4 shots off quickly.

You were a bit hyperbolic about it though.

Frankly I think Bloodborne has been one of those cases where the vocal minority of very technically picky gamers made it appear to outsiders that the game is more technically burdened then it is. To me before I jumped in I felt at times like the game was basically broken based on the complaints and strength of people's passion about their criticisms.

Even as a more sensitive PC gamer I realized once I bought the game, amidst the height of the bitching about technical issues, that in reality it wasn't that bad. Needing of improvement? Absolutely. Did I regret not waiting til a few patches came out once I dove in? Not at all.

I thought that note was talking about how the actual path after the bridge is sealed off with iron bars and rubble behind them. It's so weird that there's a dumb little rickety door between Central Yharnam and Cathedral Ward. How did the church "seal" it? Lock the door and swallow the key?

Damn it, Fromsoft. Also lol @ the door leading into DLC. wtf

That's a wall.

Hard to see not in motion, it's a model of some windows but it's backwards. Seeing through the 1 sided polygons. Location:
Spiral staircase building that's part of the Old Yharnam shortcut. The one the Werewolf busts through the door of. Top Floor.

I remember a lot of slowdown in Dark Souls. There was an entire zone dedicated to slowdown called Blighttown. Nothing in BB is as bad as that. I think the only hiccups experienced from killing multiple enemies in a single swing, which is completely negligible in my opinion, stems from particle effects of their 'echoes' leaving their body. Dark Souls on 360 had similar issues, even to the point where standing near and walking through fog walls dropped the framerate in almost half.

BB could do well to resolve the frame pacing issues, but it's still 100% playable.
