Guillermo del Toro confirms he will not be collaborating with Kojima on Silent Hills

Do we know WHAT exactly happened between Konami and Kojima?
Not sure, but it's obvious Konami is doing shitty, disgusting acts like removing his name in previous works (which they back pedaled I believe) and canceling projects he was working on like this, except Metal Gear because that's all they have this year to make money. So it looks like me Konami is doing it all out of spite.

Konami: the first company in history to not like money.

I honestly think P.T ,as detailed by Kojima, would probably cost more than it could bring in money,

Silent Hill's been weak for so long ,and its no Resident Evil.

Do we even know how much Downpour sold ? Is it even close to a million.

And as usual with any thread involving MGS or Kojima, we're through the looking glass again

Next up: Kojimawebsleuths discover that Kojima actually quit so he could get a head transplant

I'm being facetious but I would say something very serious and obviously irrevocable has occurred. I also think it would have to have been Konami's decision not Kojima's.

Wait, so PT was for done in vain? I was actually kinda hyped for a new Silent Hill. Wtf are they doing. How can they cancel such a huge project?!

Pretty much. The cancellation of Silent Hills is competing only with Silent Hill HD Collection for that honor. Konami can't lose.

Why did you have to mention the Hd collection... I was so excited for it and I busted it open, started playing it, and realized that they pissed on my youth. Now I am even sadder 😩

I keep reading the thread title in his voice and it keeps cracking me up.

Sucks, but since Konami killed off Bomberman I just expect it now. Cold hearted mother fuckers.

GG, Konami. Might as well shut off the lights and burn that fucking office to ground, cuz it's over*.

*After you make bank from MGSV

Of course one of my dream games got cancelled. What was I thinking? This game was perfect! There's no way it could ever exist.

Excuse me while I cry myself to sleep.

I don't think we'll ever know. NDAs and other legal protections/contracts likely keep this story a mystery-- at least for the foreseeable future. Even if Kojima really wanted to talk, it'd be damned expensive for him to do so.

No comment. I can't talk about that. Next question.

If you want to trust a certain video game charting place, Downpour is sitting around 0.42 million globally.

I'm under the impression Silent Hill has been weak for so long because Konami doesn't know what to do with it, and likely isn't pushing a lot of resources or budget to those making the game. It's just sad that once the game possibly has a bright future again, they pull the rug out.

Seriously who gives a shit about the Silent Hill franchise? P.T. was awesome by itself.

What we should be doing is convincing Kojima to make more stuff like P.T. He doesn't need Konami to make another game like P.T. or to expand on the idea and make a full title based on those concepts.

Hell I'd prefer another first person P.T. experience to a third person game like Silent Hills was almost certainly going to be.

Konami might own the P.T. brand and Silent Hills, but so what? Kojima doesn't need either to give us more and I'm confident he will. It seems a much more likely course of action for his next title than another stealth action affair, something we know he'd been wanting to move away from.

They wasted money dumping the project in the first place.

How can a single company be this dense
What were they actually thinking?
What has happened between Konami and Kojima that would result in this total disaster.

The 'popular' conclusion to the initial Kojima/Konami news break iirc was that Konami's restructuring was in part wanting to consolidate all their properties under their name, notably Kojima Productions. In part, Kojima Productions was becoming the face of Konami's console development with Kojima himself being a downright celebrity in that sector. In short, a power struggle over the image of the company [Konami] naturally developed with Konami wanting more recognition for their products than from the single individual that was getting said recognition.

And while that might have been the catalyst, I'm sure things further strained that relation. The question is what those things may have been. Did Konami move to take larger cuts out of MGSV and future titles? Did Kojima make a move to upset the balance of the Konami corporate structure? We may never know.
