Nintendo teams with Universal for Theme Park attractions

The thing that worries me is "Immersive Experiences" and "Major Attractions" without saying thrill rides or themed land.

I want this to be rad. I want an F-Zero coaster, I want an Zebes dark ride. I'm expecting a themed walkway in between lands with static decorations like a jacked up e3 booth.

I reall want to be wrong, but after seeing other collaborations (MonHun, Eva), I'm not expecting much.

I partially hope that this will help transition Marvel over to the Disney theme parks by filling the void for Universal. I doubt that'll be the case, but a guy can dream.

Universal's contract with Marvel's pretty ironclad from everything I've read. Disney would have to offer them a lot to make them give up the Theme Park rights east of the Mississippi (and in Japan).

They've just signed the agreement and don't know exactly what they're going to build yet.

These are both true. As long as the movies are hot, Universal has a cash cow.

As for what will be built, there isn't much space left in either park. WWoHP took over lost continent, Mummy was King Kong and BttF made way for the Simpsons. It does look like there is some space in the world expo (MiB) that could be used.

Universal has really stepped up their game lately and move really quick. Should be some cool attractions. But I hope they take a little extra time honestly.

Went to Orlando last summer and Diagonal Alley was super impressive, but the reliability of Gringotts was atrocious. It went down often. The ride was down for over an hour while my wife and I were on line before they announced they had no idea what the problem was and therefore no idea when it would back up and running. This was going to be the last ride of the trip. We went to universal 2 days and I rode it twice but she rode it only once. What a bad note to end our trip.

just imagine riding one of these

kids already have that benefit.

It took so many years but it finally happen. Excellent news and really looking forward to what type of attractions and rides they develop. This will certainly get me down to Florida once this opens and will slow start saving a little here and there now. So glad this is on the east coast and not another west coast thing. Love when childhood dreams start to come true.

So, here's my proposal:

Imagine if you will, an attraction in which you, with a group of maaybe up to 6 people, enter A box shaped room, where the wall in front of you and on both sides are huge screens, and the floor is a screen also (albeit one you can step on). There are sensors on every surface, some chutes in the ceiling for balls and such to fall out of, and some containers on each wall. You and your friends then play Warioware in this room, except each microgame requires you to use your entire body to pass it. Some games might involve standing in certain places on the floor, or skipping across some stones on the floor, or all jumping at once, or collecting the balls that drop from the ceiling and putting them in the right container, I'm sure there are many things you could do in this space. Each game completed it worth points, and all teams at the end of their time get to play a boss game to double their score, something like all getting through a laser maze, or extinguishing a load of dots on every surface, something like that.

Basically, think of simplified games from The Cube in a Warioware setting, in a theme park. Then after you've played, there's a huge daily scoreboard at the end of an attraction, and you can buy your photos or get a certificate or something.

Thoughts?

Florida has kind of a bad rep going by posts on gaf... why is that?

If you watch US news, or watch US crime shows (World's Dumbest comes to mind), you'd know a lot of terrible and dumb people seem to end up in Florida... As a (temporary) resident of the state.... it's actually very true.

It has to do with Florida being cheap, acclimate, and having one of the worst education systems in the country.

I've waited for this for so long. As for what I expect...

  • Mario, Zelda, DK, & Metroid attractions are safe bets
  • I 75% expect the likes of Kirby, Pikmin, & Animal Crossing in some capacity
  • I'm not sure if we'll get Pokémon on account of how TPC can be about non-Smash crossovers. If TPC signs off on it, I'd put Pokémon in the safe bets category.
  • I partially expect a Splatoon attraction if Nintendo's serious about slowly building up the IP for the next few years
  • I can see us getting F-Zero as a hardcore roller coaster (with track designs from the F-Zero games), but it's not a guarantee (I'd be disappointed if we didn't)
  • I could imagine us getting some sort of Fire Emblem attraction, but I wouldn't bet on it as much as I would the others
  • Luigi's Mansion could definitely be an awesome inclusion, but that would technically fall under Mario
  • There's a 12% chance in my opinion that we could get anything Xenoblade given how the franchise has blown up in recent years. At the very least have the Monado there to pose with.
  • As much as I'd love to see Earthbound/Mother or Rhythm Heaven attractions, I kinda doubt it. If anything, I'd be a bit more hopeful for Earthbound given that Ness is a Smash staple.
  • While I would technically lump Yoshi with Mario, it's definitely gonna get its own dedicated attraction

You are setting your expectations far higher than you should be for this kind of project. This is merely an expansion to one of the two existing parks, not an entire park on its own. Unlike Disney, Universal has a finite amount of land to work with and no matter where they end up putting it, it won't take up as much space as you imagine it will. You will see one major attraction, a gift shop, maybe a restaurant, and MAYBE a minor second attraction. That's it.

Thinking about it this is a pretty intelligent contract by universal.
Basically they are going to have at their hands the kind of characters disney's main parks are build from without the necessity of creating a cartoon company from scratch.
Kids and adults love Mario and co nearly as much as Mickey and co. Here we have universal with caharacters that cater directly to the main public that visit disney, just add to that harry potter and marvel and they are riding on a cash cow.
Disney has elsa, universal has rosalina now. That trope princess sells like hotcakes. Just see the commercials of disneyland paris to see how much disney knows that character sells.
Now universal can have their own "disney" castle with peach, their own haunted mansion thanks to luigi, their own princess meet and greet. And not only that but also have things like metroid or f-zero to also give young adults types of rides they will like and that universal knows so well to make.

IMO disney fucked up big time by choosing avatarland. They dont give a fuck because they are still winning, but is good for everyone if universal compete as good as they are teying right now.

At most we are going to get something like harry potter or marvel lands. At worst something like the simpsons land.
Maybe toon lagoon goes down, we already know nothing is sacred for universal if they need space.

Right, at the most it will have one major attraction, one minor attraction, a gift shop or two, a counter service or two, or less. (I actually love the Simpsons section since the refurb, but I'm biased as hell).

The only way you'll see more than one attraction being built for Nintendo is if they convert an existing section of Islands (like Toon or Lost Continent) into a Nintendo themed island. And this is all based on whether they're even getting their own section, this could very well be a single attraction with an attached gift shop somewhere in the Studios.

I just want people to think realistically about this project. It will not be it's own park, and it will not be on a scale bigger than one of the Potter sections.

Kid Icarus Uprising hanging coaster
F-Zero magrail launch coaster

If we don't get these two things nintendo wasted their money

I can imagine many possibilities for rides:

- A space-theme ride based on Mario Galaxy/Rainbow Road
- A more traditional Coaster based on the Pinna Park Coaster in Mario Sunshine.
- Donkey Kong Mine Cart Ride
- F-Zero ride, which is super fast.

Damn, so many possibilities. I'm definitely there when it opens.

Also, a clothes store to exclusively buy Splatoon swag.

Also, I remember posting this in another thread, and thought it would be cool to post them here again. As I said, predicted it was going to be Disney and not Universal, so that already changes.
Logically Universal is not going make anything as big as this but it would be great to see some similar ideas on the zone (hope is more Harry Potter and less Simpsons land in terms of area and quality).
And of course the ideas I did here are crazy, It had a fire emblem zone before awakening, And one based in Mother. You are not seeing anything resembling that on a real theme park ever lol

Snipped your mega post down but kudos to you for all the work done. Really impressive!
