Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss - |OT| The abyss will gaze back into you.

Good glad to hear you are enjoying it.

It is a little different, since they tried some new ideas with it and had created the title to be a bit of a blend of audiences for the core and light users. For the most part it did pretty well I think as both sides seemed generally happy.

Later dungeons yes the circles will become more spread out, therefore running circuits will take a lot longer. But at least unlike the start of the game you wont be running around mostly naked while doing it.

I never use the auto-navi system and pretty much forget it exists. Its in this game too Operation Abyss that is and once again I never use it since dont really need it lol. Its more for those who hate having to move around on their own I suppose. Or are doing something else at the same time yet want to progress in the dungeon.

Also dropped this on the demon gaze page but one of the better wikis that should help you out if you ever need information. Also pay attention to the bug section, since there were some bugs that never got fixed which means there is a good chance they still exist in the US version. But it mostly has to do with end game treasure hunting so you wont have to worry about it for a while.

The link will take you to the stats page since thats another thing which isnt always really explained in their games and are slightly different from one another therefore its always good to check first what each one does / effects. From that page you can go back to the main wiki and whatnots.

Anyways enjoy the game and if you have any questions just leave it in the demon gaze thread as I got it on my watch list also even though its not my OT.

Yep, I know about the wiki and what stats do. I did some research on stats and classes before starting the game.
I tend to read something on the internet while grinding, so auto-navi is useful when it works.

I got five demons, entered the castle. Things I love about the game.
1)Artifact system. Gave support skills to my gazer, so I don't need a wizard. Gave Slash 2 to my Assassin, so now I have two slash users. Such power! Much flexibility!
2)The gem system. You get the drops of the type you ask. Get a lot of bows, equip the unique ones, turn everything else into ether. Very productive grinding. You can choose what to grind for exactly and it always feels like you are progressing forward to your goal, even if nothing unique drops.
3)Capturing demons. Getting something special for defeating the bosses is nice.

I get that there will be no demons in other games, but does abyss have something like skill transfer/gems?

Minor gripe. This game has too many consumables. There are only maybe four useful ones and everything else just clutters the inventory. Together with gems and trash items they can fill the bag fast. Trash at least is easy to sell, but selling consumables requires attention so that you don't actually sell the useful ones -_-

This game has an item that you can equip that lets you use equipment normally restricted to certain blood codes on anyone, but no actual subclass skills or spells. Labyrinth Cross Blood has the cross blood system, where you choose a main and sub blood code (Knight/Fighter for example).

Abyss doesnt have anything really like the skill transfer / gem system. All loot is found from certain spots on the map as a 1 time thing or random drops from battle. Though the scholar class can help with drop rates. Plus the identification of all the items / materials you bring back.

Generally I just keep tossing the consumables in the bank each time Im back in town, so its not that big of an issue and mainly keep stats recovery / all party heal type of items. But if you plan to stay out long yes it does fill up the bag pretty fast.

If you sell something by accident thats all on you and not the game system lol.

No demons in Operation Abyss or Cross Blood. Demon Gaze is its own series along with its mechanics. The closest thing that you might have would be Knights of Round or Stranger of Sword City. Even those two are a bit different. As Crovax mentioned while Operation Abyss does not have anything special for the classes, Cross Blood offers a sub job system which helps mix things up a bit.

Knights of Round requires you to leave food items around and the monster type that likes said food will come to the trap area to eat it which then turns into a battle.

Stranger of Sword City is there are specific areas on the map where you can ambush enemy caravans that carry a chests. These chests are marked with what can be expected to found inside. You can attack the enemy and get a surprise attack or wait in hopes of something shows up that you like. The more you wait the stronger the enemy gets / more chance you get ambushed instead. Though the quality of the items also increases I do believe. This system uses a morale bar, which can be filled with skills by the new Dancer class.

Looks like Abyss 2 will be known as Operation Babel. More info in upcoming Famitsu.

http://www.famitsu.com/news/201412/16067930.html

nice that it got announced. do know they have been talking it having been in testing for a while now. guess its at a point to be safe to be officially announced.

i just hooe the le is smaller than the first one because dear god it was just stupid huge. though thats due to the art book.

lol yeah I dont know why they bothered remaking that game. well maybe they fixed many problem with it...

wonder if that is even possible short scrapping the game and starting over lol.

Amiami already has Operation Babel LE up for pre-order: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=GAME-0013366

Definitely seems like the same kind of art book. Hopefully it actually ends up coming with the soundtrack since it says "planned", then I don't have to worry about missing out on it again due to shop bonuses, haha.

Official site is up as well, just a teaser page for now: http://opbabel.jp/

wow that was fast the pre-orders went up. although it looks like the art style changed a little bit. wonder if they are redoing the overall presentation? the characters seem to be the same the ones in the amiami link. though the ones on the cover seem to be slightly different. interesting.

Do hope so, since was really weird that only Sofmap had it for the previous game. Thanks to that I have multiple copies of the game.

The Operation Babel site has been updated from just a teaser page to the full site, with some sections still not up. It does say that the LE comes with the soundtrack, so that's cool.

Are there any suggestions for a team for when you're beginning or is the standard party you get enough to get through the game?

Not really, but its generally suggested to at least have a Wiz and a Scholar. Or whatever they renamed it to.

The Wiz for the float ability to avoid floor traps and such and a Scholar is what can disarm traps for when you find item chips from enemies / on the map and identify stuff. Which saves a TON of cash once you learn the spell. As it is cheaper to pay $$$ to rest and recover MP than it is to identify stuff using the command in the shop, though from the start you will have no choice but to rely on that for a while. So its what makes it seem like money will be a problem in the game, but that generally goes away once you can identify stuff yourself.

Outside of that you can pretty much do whatever you want. Though might make things more difficult depending on what kind of PT you have formed up. Such as no Knight for example to soak up damage. Or going no healer.

For the Wiz with the float ability, that becomes pretty much a must otherwise you wind up having to spend $$$ on buying expendable items to gain the ability or specific pieces of equipment that have the float ability on them. Though normally not available for all classes. Cant remember if the float item was limited in quantity in the store.

Though similar to demon gaze there will be limited quantity on specific items so once those are sold out you pretty much have to find em from drops / item chips.

Also to save you a headache dont use the healing item that has "Curry" in the name. No idea what they translated that to. So when you find those save them. Shop only has a limited quantity too I do believe.

Yeah, you'll definitely want a Wizard and Scholar for the reasons Parakeetman said. A pretty standard setup of Knight, Samurai, Warrior in front and Wizard, Cleric, Scholar in back worked well for me.

I seem to remember having a lot of gamble codes in OA that I saved for most of the game, which was probably a mistake. It's probably best to use them any time you feel your gear is getting outdated and you haven't been lucky with drops. You can always reload your save if you don't get useful items. Same with the rare item trophies, even if you only have one gamble code left you can just keep reloading until you get the one you need. I hoarded all mine until the end pretty much and it was kind of pointless.

I keep getting blocked and spend hours until I find what I'm missing.
I took a request from the student council president to stop TFP from recruiting students. Now, I'm stuck at the point where the TFP (Peace Corporation?) member hacked my S-vices at the subway station and went into Morimoto Rise, except that I went through every single tile there and I can't find her.
Where is she?

There are several hidden doors in that dungeon, pretty sure you need to get through one of those for that quest. Could be wrong since I've played Babel and Cross Blood since then and might be mixing it up.

I'm not sure since I don't know the full explanation of each stat but it's usually my Wizard that detects hidden things.

Need the actual quest name that you are on.
Is it the one where you are investigating multiple murders of female students?

If it is that mission

27F(X8,Y11)Event battle、Union Skill Tutorial→head to 26F->
26F(X10,Y11)Event(X10,Y10)Event Battle、After battle head to→25F at(X10,Y8)will find hint.

I think it's this one:

1. See events in the classroom
2. Contact at the school park
3. Contact at the station
4. Battle in Morimoto Building 25F at X10 Y06
5. Contact at the school park
6. Complete quest

Yeah you wont be able to find the JP wikis unless you can actually type Japanese generally. But they will usually show up pretty high on the search results if you just put in the JP title.

The two common JP wikis are as follows below.

How easy is this game to finish without consulting a guide as per ^?

I just want a fun game to take my mind of stress. Does this game have multiple endings or things like that? Good story too?

No multiple endings.

Anything can be beaten without a guide, though it depends on your own level of skill / reasoning.

Story is fairly simple but those who have played it enjoy it, though its not super narrative heavy.

Stuck trying to find a hack key y to unlock the door on Kagura District, where do I find one of those?

Hang on do not remember exactly at the moment will look that up. Cant remember if it was a drop or not.

Ok you need to do the following
make it from 3 Hack Key Bs

Wasnt there a part in the game that mentioned that to the player? Think it might have been Kaito who talked about it?

In regards to what you fight this gfaqs has some info on that as someone was asking whats a more efficient way to fight or something, didnt bother reading through it as the info is useless to me. Though scanning over it can be considered spoilers so read at your own risk.

I think it was 2 Boss Fights in a row one right after the other, so get your party in top shape before attempting it. At least you know that in advance now. lol
