Final Fantasy 7 Remake Announced (First on PS4)

I was a kid when FF7 was released and English isn't my native language, so I didn't understand big parts of the story back then. So this remake will almost be a fully new adventure to me, can't wait.

What I find funny about the reaction videos is that a lot of people started freaking out when that little kid went down the slide. Seems to have been an important or easily recognizable thing in the original.

The playground is a small scene and insignificant in the grand scheme of the plot, but it's a really memorable location that you see a few times via backtracking.

The fact they included something like that in the trailer bodes well for the direction of the remake.

Zack was a SOLDIER first class, I would think he could hold his own against three dudes.

Though I guess another reason he may not have performed as well is all the experiments he went through while Hojo had him and Cloud in captivity.

Here watch the scene:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_SgvAb8W9M

He goes off and kills a couple soldiers then hurries back to Clouds side. As he's getting ready to grab Cloud, he's caught off guard and shot. Then they go up to him and fire into him multiple times.

It's also weird they gave Cloud the same outfit as Zack in CC when in the original scene Cloud doesn't have the two shoulder pads like Zack and Zack is wearing a darker purple.

Edit: Ugh even watching the CC ending right now, everything is so dramatically done. Clouds staring into the sky while there's a beam of light, the music, the ridiculous amount of soldiers. Awful.

Now that the FF7 Remake takes all the spotlight, i think there is less pressure on Final Fantasy 15 and people will look a bit more relaxed on that game

At this moment Square Enix is developing my 2 most anticipated games of all time

im waiting since 2006 for Versus and was dreaming since 2005 for an FF7 Remake

Take my soul Square Enix

Yeah, thought so, too, heh.
Only a week ago FFXV was still called SE's "most important game ever". Now it's suddenly FFVIIR. A two-edged sword, really - either it's taking pressure off of Tabata & Co and makes them more relaxed, or it's taking too much attention away from them which could be bad on the other hand. I can imagine the pressure of knowing you're working on the most important project right now to be quite a good motivation even if it's terribly stressful. Now they might think "Well, if we fail, there's still FFVIIR!". Really looking forward to the next ATR at gamescom to see what they're up to.

Nah, Tabata must be mad jealous right now lol. He once said he wanted to develop the best-selling FF game ever. Also Kitase noted that there is a sense of (friendly) rivalry between the various FF teams.

lol. No chance this is gonna happen
The most viewed Final Fantasy 15 Video has 4 Mio view (in a year)....the FF7R has already 8.6 mio in in less than a week

yeah i wonder what tabata will say about that remake and nomura :D Since he seems to avoid his name in conversations

Tabata vs Nomura = Mentor and Student, both working on the most important Square Enix Projects at the same time

i think in 2016 we will hear nearly nothing about the remake, since that is the year of Final Fantasy 15 & it will get all the spotlight

The 8.6 million views is just me watching it over and over again

and me :) and Neogaf

I don't think he's jelous, especially when XV isn't really "his" FF, but he's a passionate guy and he will try to do his best. I do think the remake announcement will do a great favour to FFXV, people say it will be overshadowed by it, to me it's the exact opposite, people suddenly seem to be excited about FF again and I'm sure more non-hardcore fans will check FFXV while waiting for FFVII.

In that moment tiny moment he defeated 1000 SOLDIERS. :D

Regardless of how they handle it in the remake, I'm hoping Zack will be recognized as a hero.

I think he is a hero. He doesn't have to kill a bunch of grunts to be one. He does his best to get him and Cloud away from Shinra and has only good intentions for Cloud.

I mean, he's not a big hero like Cloud but for the role he plays, he is for Cloud.

who needs assassins Creed in China, when we get this in HD :D

You're right. Zack is a hero, a killing a bunch of dudes won't make him more or less of one. It's his devotion to getting his friend to safety that makes him important.

While ridiculously over the top, Zack Last Stand just felt so right. He was always talking about defending his honor as a SOLDIER First Class. As he slowly dies his DMW (which is a representation of his emotions and memories) starts breaking down, his last thoughts are of Aeris.

We all knew Zack was gonna die at the end of CC, I just like that he died fighting.

amen

the abrupt brutality and silence in the original is so much more affecting than the trashy over the top jpop filled CC version

Yep.

I'm with #TeamFF7ZackDeath for sure. I felt nothing but "aw, gee, really?" when Crisis Core ended, and I've been called a monster for that several times but it's the truth. Yeah, it was still unfortunate that he perished in that rendition, but the whole feel of it, the whole mise-en-scene, was just wrong. And the sudden brutality in the original is what makes it click. There aren't a lot of JRPGs -- hell, there aren't a lot of narrative-driven games in general -- that pull the trigger like that, and that do so multiple times across the story too.

The slide is just this really easily recognizable piece of the original game, yeah. A couple of memorable scenes in the first few hours take place there.

Also, I love your choice of internet persona. Stargate SG-1 forever. <3

Jeez, has everyone here played Crisis Core? I feel like a bad fan for missing out, even though FF7 is my favourite game of all time.

Any chance it gets the Type-0 treatment before the Remake comes out?

It's especially tragic when he's running back to get Cloud up and you're thinking he's going to escape and then he looks up for a split second and bam, he's shot. Then they make it even more brutal by walking up and loading bullets into him.

It also makes it even sadder in the original that Cloud never get's a goodbye. In CC, the handing over the Buster Sword makes no sense and is really a negative to Clouds breakdown and false persona.

I think there are license issues keeping it from being available digitally or ported. If you want to play it you will probably need a PSP.

Crisis Core is awesome though, its probably my favorite PSP game.

I wish, but honestly It's a pretty damn good game, minus Genesis. It can get repetative, but if you just want to see what Zack's journey was like, check out some YouTube videos. There is probably a long video of all the cutscenes stitched together. I got a PSP in 2009 just to play it, totally worth it. One of my best buddies got the limited edition Japanese PSPs for the FF7th tenth anniversary.

Forget you guys, Crisis Core's ending > FFVII Zack's Death. (Folds arms grumpily)

In my honest opinion, it was the only game worth playing in the compilation of FF7, unless Before Crisis was secretly awesome, but I wouldn't know.

I could see it happening, depending on how much cash they feel like they'd have to drop in order to make it work. On a selfish note I kind of hope they don't, because if they do, there'll be that much more pressure to align things a bit more with FFVII itself, I think. And I'm not too keen on that. But from a more distanced perspective it could be a wise move for the company and I'm positive there'd be new fans who'd fall in love with Crisis Core, even if I kinda didn't. It has its merits.

...then again... Type-0's combat was like this mass evolution of Crisis Core's. They'd probably not want to leave CC as-is combat-wise on PS4, it's pretty barebones by comparison and even Type-0 didn't get sterling reviews here in the West a few months back. So maybe it'll be left alone after all.

Yeah, totally. That whole scene gives me chills in the original through and through.

You will buy them both, play them intermittently, publicly complain about having to divide your attention between them, but internally be quite happy that you're playing and enjoying two of your favorite games. Afterward, you will discuss them on the internet, likely including NeoGAF.

Haha, I just saw this reply, sorry.

You're absolutely right. I need to get over it. I am happy with this arrangement.

Wait wait wait wait, the original shows Zack's death?! That a thing?

I'm in the end of a playthrough and I don't remember it LOL unless it was on Nibelhem

Don't worry even people with English as their first language didn't understand the story because of how poor the localization was. People still think Sephiroth killed aerith when it was actually Jenova. You never actually see the actual sephiroth until the very very end of the game. The whole time it's Jenova shapeshifted as sephiroth.

Mhm, but it's a flashback. If you go back to the bottom of the mansion toward the end of the game Cloud will be barraged by a solid ten or twelve minutes of story.

It's in the special story sequence you get when you visit the Shinra mansion basement after the lifestream Mideel thing.

Also I hated Crisis Core. When Zack fell through the church roof I stopped playing in disgust.

I honestly didn't like Crisis Core.. I thought I would because Zack was a cool character but the battle system is just unplayable for me. I couldn't make any sense of it. And then I watched the storyline and, while I liked Angeal and Cissnei, Genesis was just bad. I thought the whole project was extremely over romanticized. But watching the storyline is worth it to know more about Zack and to get a bigger glimpse into Aeris's teenage years. Didn't like them taking Cloud's iconic moments in Zack's place though.

This may be a controversial change, but I've always loved Sephiroth's One-Winged Angel imagery and I hope its in the Final Fantasy VII Remake somewhere. I always hated that in Crisis Core they gave a wing to basically everyone except Sephiroth. Lol.

His design in Advent Children was amazing with it.

That would be interesting, the only instance in FF7 where he had One Wing was when he was Safer Sephiroth. That was one demonic wing for an arm, while he had a bunch of angel wings beneath him.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

Ugh, I lent this PSP to a friend once and her asshole boyfriend stole it and hacked it to death.

FUCK.

At least I still have the box.

I'm team #CCZackDeath, only because of how well done and exciting the ending was. Then again, I always liked the over the top anime scenes in the compilation. If they used the original flashback without the hundreds of soldiers I wouldn't be too upset, though, since I can also understand why people like that better.

Well considering Sephiroth was controlling Jenova it was still sorta him. And by the very very end of the game you mean a little ways into disc 2?

Indeed it was, Nomura was the director correct? Didn't he made the decision to kill off Aeris in a non dramatic fashion? Saying it was more realistic. He did a 180 with the Zack death being all overdramatic.

Looking at the various fan reactions, it's interesting to see at what point in the trailer each person realizes that it's related to FF7.

For me, I knew something was up the moment I saw "South Edge" and heard the wasteland music from FF7 Advent Children. For others, it took until they noticed one of the kids playing with a toy Buster Sword, or seeing that wide shot of Midgar with the 3 glowing circle things. Ultimately, if they hadn't gotten it by then, they knew once they glimpsed Barret's arm, and the opening music sequence from FF7 kicks in.

Sephiroth is controlling Jenova through where he is frozen within the Northern Crater. He is definitely the one that killed Aerith but you don't ever actually see the real Sephiroth until the end of Disc 2.

Got it. I have a terrible memory for games, the entire second half of FF7 is a hazy blur for me. I only remember the first half better because I have played it a few times.

100% agreed.

I hope they keep the original death in the remake. It makes more sense story wise.

Isn't the first stuff in the northern crater only a few hours into disc 2?

Some people want them to keep the original ATB. Others want them to update the gameplay a lot. But what about the end? They keep the end, right? I loved how MGS4 ended the game with the classic scenario from MGS1. This short scene at the end needs to remain intact, I feel.

I don't know why people say Sephiroth is controlling Jenova. I don't recall the game ever explicitly stating it or heavily implying it.
