Mojang's Scrolls closing June 2016, no new content being added.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Mojang will close down its card-battle strategy game Scrolls, leaving the developer with one active game to its name — Minecraft — less than a year after Microsoft acquired the studio.

"After much deliberation," says Mojang, "we've come to an important decision that we'd like to share: Echoes will be the last major content patch for Scrolls. We won't be adding features or sets from now on, though we are planning to keep a close eye on game balance."

Scrolls Team statement:

Hi everyone,

After much deliberation, we’ve come to an important decision that we’d like to share: Echoes will be the last major content patch for Scrolls. We won’t be adding features or sets from now on, though we are planning to keep a close eye on game balance.

Scrolls will still be available to purchase for the time being, and our servers will run until at least July 1st, 2016. All future proceeds will go towards keeping Scrolls playable for as long as possible.

The launch of the Scrolls beta was a great success. Tens of thousands of players battled daily, and many of them remain active today. Unfortunately, the game has reached a point where it can no longer sustain continuous development.

We’ve had a great time working on Scrolls, and appreciate every last player who’s downloaded our game. Extra big thanks to the most dedicated members of our community; some of you have logged in almost every day since release and dedicated a large portion of your time to dominating the leaderboards and taking care of new players. We salute you, honourable scrolldiers.

We will do our best to answer any questions you might have on the standard channels.

Thanks for reading, everybody.

The Scrolls team <3

Minecraft factory incoming or will they get a shot with a new I.P?

EDIT: People that are getting mad at the thread title, i just copied the title of the tweet sent by the Polygon official twitter account. (The tweet is now deleted) - https://twitter.com/Polygon/status/615595615406424064/photo/1

EDIT 2: Title changed! We can all live in peace now =]

"pulls the plug" expected they shut it down next month or something, but doesn't sound that bad from the article

Figures. We all knew they just bought Mojang for the IP. Now they'll just milk it until it either runs dry or we get to the heat death of the universe.

I don't understand why they fought to keep everybody employed there. Minecraft is basically supported by like a small handful of people.

I never knew or heard of anyone who had played or was excited for this game. Makes sense to me but what do I know hur hur f u Micro$oft!

I'm surprised it took this long. It was floundering from the start and it's in a genre that's getting more crowded by the day.

I enjoyed my brief time with it though.

Yeah, I mean the game is still getting a content update as well. Just seems like they're moving on to something else.

"Pulling the plug" seems like a poor choice of words.

Edit: Actually seems like the update came out earlier this month. Still, doesn't seem that bad to me.

Scrolls was a bit of a mess anyways, also with Hearthstone kicking off it probably wouldn't have lasted much longer.

Edit: Also a mod should probably change the thread title.

Little confused why OP's title points the finger at MS when there isn't any indication that this was solely their doing. Polygon's article and article title barely mention Microsoft.

Minecraft Factory here we go

TBH I am kind of waiting for MS to move future Minecraft development state side and just have Mojang do legacy support for the Java version of the game while someone else works on the new ground up version that plugs into MS's ecosystem.

So far to me at least its kind of telling that every Minecraft related thing MS has shown since the buyout has been random executives and MS R&D people and not from Mojang.

I really hope this turns in to a multi-page thread where MS is made out to be a horrible corporation for a decision that was made by a studio to end a game that people didn't even realize was released.

Took them long enough in my opinion, Mojang considered/talked about pulling the plug before MS took over. My only hope is that they try and make new games (Even if they are smaller ones) and not be a Minecraft only developer.

That's kind of a misleading headline. It's getting another update and people will still be able to play it. It makes sense since only a small number of people played it to begin with.

Oh wait, sorry, I was using my head, let me try again.

Rabble rabble Minecraft factory rabble M$ rabble rabble studio gonna be gutted.

That title seems like complete clickbait. Could've been Scrolls wasn't doing to well. Don't know of anybody who actually plays it.
